Review:
Here's
the debut S/T EP from London based Noise/Stoner Rockers – Golden
Legacy. Their sound is a mix of Noise, Prog, Psych and Stoner Rock.
It's loud, chaotic, noisy and slightly messy at time but what a great
EP to introduce yourselves with.
First
song – Saint Dark – is a fast-paced noise/stoner rock where the
band blend glitch based noises with ferocious heavy riffs. Lorena's
vocals have a demented and slight poppy feel to them and I mean that
as a compliment. Though it's the riffs which impress the most as this
two-piece band create a whole load of noise that's very addictive
indeed.
Second
song – Gold Meaning Variations – is very different to the opening
track with the band opting for a more progressive/psych rock feel and
it allows the band to create some stunning post-rock style sounds
though it's only a matter of time before Golden Legacy move further
to the heavier side of life. It's a trippy and almost surreal song
with elements of doom appearing here and there. Perhaps the EP's
standout song especially when the band throw caution to the wind and
lay down some epic noisy progressive stoner metal riffs.
Third
song – Mirror – is 7 minutes of glorious Stoner Rock goodness
with heavy outbursts of chaotic noise rock that gives this song quite
a groove. Lorena impress yet again with her slight poppy and sweet
natured vocals. Though it's buried under an avalanche of distorted
noises and Golden Legacy thrive in confusing the hell out of you.
This song shouldn't really work but it does. It's another excellent
song to show you why Golden Legacy have a bright future ahead of
them.
Fourth
song – Gold Steps – is a fast-paced number where the band opt for
a more punk based approach with their music. The riffs are still very
much Stoner based but the band experiment with their sound for an
almost violent and schizophrenic approach. It's a shame this is the
last song on the EP as I was really starting to enjoy myself and it
ends. Oh well, time to press the repeat button and start all over
again.
Golden
Legacy have released a superb debut EP. Bring on the full length
records. As I want to hear more. Do yourself a favour and check this
out as you will be hearing a lot more from Golden Legacy in the
future.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.
