Argentinian Space Rockers IAH return with another heavy round of Psychedelic Space/Stoner Rock and their new album II. This album has a different approach compared to their celebrated 2017 debut EP. As the band adapt a more Ambient/Post Rock sound with their familiar Spaced Out Riffs taking a back seat for the most post. IAH have even managed to add a heavier Sludge/Doom/Post-Metal to their music.
Those sounds were on their debut album but perhaps not as loud as this. IAH have taken influence from bands such as Pelican and Russian Circles with songs such as El silencio del agua, hh and Nihil Novum setting the stage for some epic progressive jams that IAH are well known for. The album does have quite a doomed out approach when IAH opt for the heavier sounds. This makes the album very hard to categorize but I feel we should all just enjoy the music as it’s beautifully played with a dark hypnotic edge.
The album flows superbly from start to finish as each song has a beginning, middle and an end. This allows IAH to have a direct focus for each song held on the album. The final two songs Pri and Sheut prove why IAH are starting to make a name for themselves not only within the South American Stoner Rock scene but also within the wider Stoner Rock/Metal community.
IAH have released an album that you will be listening for a very long time to come. IAH deserve all the riches and plaudits hopefully coming their way. If you’re looking for a band that bridges the gap between Post-Rock, Psych, Doom and Stoner Metal grooves then accept no substitute. IAH are the band for you.
This is one of the years most have Instrumental Rock/Metal albums.
