Review

Three is the new album from Canadian Psych Jam/Stoner Rock Band – Lightbulb Vaporizer. The album’s production isn’t the best but that doesn’t stop the band creating an exciting and vibrant Psychedelic Sound that off-shoots into different elements of Hard Rock and Stoner Metal on certain parts of the album. The album is purely instrumental and has a groovy and seedy Blues Rock sound running through it’s veins.

The opening 3 songs Korb Of The Lawn, Shadow Valley and Gypsy Tears setup the scene for a hazy and hallucinogenic journey where the riffs are heavy and very direct. Lightbulb Vaporizer explore many different musical paths on this album within the realm of Psychedelic/Stoner Rock and show a fine ear for detail especially when the album moves from 60s/70s Hard Rock vibes to the more modern day Stoner Rock sound.

The instrumental work is near flawless as the band play a never-ending succession of awesome riffs. The band are quite creative with their overall sound especially when they add Ambient Sounds to their music and everything moves into a gloomier and progressive sound.

Other cool songs to check out are: Blackout Afternoon, Horse Blankets, Horizon and Red Sun Devils Lettuce. As Lightbulb Vaporizer embrace the “WEEDIAN” influence to their music on these songs and they rank as some of the best songs on the album.

As I said at the start, the production could have done with more work. As some parts of the album sound too low to fully appreciate. Though that could be with the low bit-rate promo copy that I received to review. Other than that minor complaint, Lightbulb Vaporizer have delivered an excellent and hard-hitting Instrumental Stoner Rock/Metal album that people should investigate further for themselves.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
