Review

Cobracadabra is the new album from Italian Stoner Rockers SupaSonic Fuzz who take a more fast-paced approach with their style of hard-rocking Desert Rock sounds. Coming off as a faster and more aggressive version of KYUSS with perhaps classic hard rock vocals from Martin. The album has those lovely LOUD LEVELS of FUZZ ROCK within the album and Supasonic Fuzz don’t mind being quite progressive on later stages of the album.

Opening song Cobracadabra is finely balanced between the classic sounds of the Desert with wonderfully played extended guitar solos and jams towards the end of the song. Psychedelic Grooves become part of the equation and some fantastic instrumental work leading the way, especially the thrilling drumming from Steva.

From this point on Supasonic Fuzz play a classic style of Desert/Stoner Rock that fuses Blues Rock swagger and a modern day cocky attitude with. As the music becomes heavier, faster and with a pissed off style that I didn’t expect from this album. The hits keep on coming with tracks such as: Give Me Your Blood, Pork Chop Express and Echoestorm allowing the band every opportunity to play some cracking original grooves of their own whilst honouring legendary bands such as KYUSS, Monster Magnet and Fu Manchu.

Echoestorm is the standout track here with Supasonic Fuzz showing a more thunderous vision with the band venturing into Prog based territory. As the track runs past the eight minute mark.

The second half of the album sees the band retain that adventurous and aggressive WEEDIAN sound with FUZZ ROCK levels soaring once again on songs such as Magura Goose,  Skull River and Black Ivy Ghost with the final two tracks offering the heaviest and most thrilling parts of the album.

Cobracadabra is a wonderfully epic cinematic journey into the California Deserts that offers a few surprising twists and turns along the way. This album could even be considered the perfect soundtrack to 70's Cult Classic film Vanishing Point. As Supasonic Fuzz revel in switching 70's Hard Rock themes for a more modern day Stoner based feel. So be prepared for different eras of Hard Rock/Metal to fully collide and the loud levels of destruction coming your way.

You've been warned.....

Excellent and Highly Recommended
