Review

Pandemonium is the new EP from Peruvian Doom/Fuzz/Stoner Rockers Fuzzter and it’s a more gloomier and realistic sound compared to their previous two EP’s. Opening with the legendary “DESTROYER OF WORLDS” speech from Oppenheimer for their first track Extinción which is a fuzzed and aggressive style of music with a full-on Garage Rock delivery appearing within the production values of the whole EP.

Fuzzter lives up to the “FUZZ” aspect of their name with the intense FUZZ grooves switching between Doom, Sludge and Stoner passages with the killer dual  vocals from Raul and Daniel lighting up the Punk Rock aesthetics of this track alone. The music is quite fast-paced with a classic Heavy Metal quality which allows Fuzzter to play a fine amount of frantic Hard Rock guitar solos along the way.

Second song Thanatos allows Manuel to impress with his Jazz inspired extended drumming solo before the onslaught of Heavy Stoner Metal grooves appear and Manuel reverts back to the classic style of Power Trio based drumming. The drumming is the absolute heartbeat of this track alone with Daniel and Raul moving to Manuel’s impressive skills. The instrumental sounds once again moves between the finer areas of the Doom, Sludge and Stoner movements with a trippy Space Rock flow appearing. The sound has a classic KYUSS and TRUCKFIGHTERS feeling with Fuzzter portraying the darker depths of the Californian Desert/Stoner Rock scene that’s perhaps been scorched by a nuclear fallout as hinted at within the opening moments of the whole EP. The later stages do become more progressive and vibrant with the Psychedelic Sludge based guitars.

Fuzzter are constantly switching between Psych Doom/Stoner Metal on the second half of the EP with massive amounts of Post-Doom or Post-Rock energy merging with a free-flowing Punk Rock creative attitude on tracks such as Purgatario and Caja de Pandora. The mood captures a grizzled and frenzied style of music that drifts between bands such as FU MANCHU and YAWNING MAN but with a more Doomedelic appeal which brings a menacing apocalyptic rhythm to the EP.

The final track Tercer Ojo is one of the fastest and aggressive tracks on the EP with Fuzzter becoming more Punk Rock obsessed but with that Psychedelic Doomed Out sound still making itself known. There’s a sense of chaos within Fuzzter ranks but one that allows the band to deliver a thrilling blend of intense instrumental extended jams.

Pandemonium is a trip well worth taking with Fuzzter. As the EP is full of excellent ideas that expands into some trippy and hallucinogenic grooves which hold your attention throughout. This is another standout release from the South American Doom/Stoner Metal underground scene.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
