Ben Haeringer - Everything
Review
Vigor is the new album from Psych/Doom/Stoner Rock collective Murrayglossus which is the solo studio project of Ben Haeringer, bassist with Berlin heavy psych/post-rockers Schiguli. The music on here is purely instrumental with a precise journey developing from the start with a cautious approach that develops within the music. The album does contain some cool sounding fast-paced melodies but for the start everything is played at a slow-to-mid pace.
Vigor is mostly driven by a cinematic Post-Rock and Post-Metal score with outbursts of Doomgaze and Sludge Metal soundscapes that can be quite choppy especially with the “STOP / START” delivery of how the music is played at the very start on tracks such as Awakening, Ascension Loop and Quagmire Of Worldly Existence.
Murrayglossus adds a destructive Desert Rock influence into their music which can become wonderfully surreal when the Post-Doom and Post-Rock sounds take a heavier and methodical turn. However, the music remains constantly fresh, warm and boldly engaging with a TRANCE like creative charge starting to appear more and more.
Murraygloss does take the listener on quite the musical journey where a Progressive narrative fully takes centre stage which allows the record to step away from the “METALLIC” elements for a softer and uplifting style of music that still retains a different sense of “HEAVINESS” on the later stages of the album.
Vigor works at it’s best when it blends a JAZZY and EXPERIMENTAL attitude that throws caution to the wind with some of the best sounds, grooves and themes appearing on tracks such as: Hemisphärensynchronisation, Resist/Accept, The Last Revolt and Riding The Waves Of Universe.
Vigor won’t be for everyone but if you’re looking for a different style of Instrumental Rock then Murrayglossus have delivered the goods here with a rich, solid and highly satisfying record that has some epic sounding instrumental passages to stand out from the crowd.
