Review

Trees Are Silent is the third album from Polish Doom/Post-Metal/Stoner Metal collective GOZD that continues a similar journey heard on their last two records of Unilateralis and This Is Not The End. GOZD lean heavily into their Post-Rock/Post-Metal aspect of their musical identity for this record as it contains a world weary GLOOMY sound with some similarities to the likes of SPACESLUG and MOUNTAIN OF MISERY.

However, GOZD have a more frenzied and cinematic approach which comes across superbly well within the early stages of the record on tracks such as Abiogenesis, The Oath Taken Beneath The Oak Tree and Birch. It’s with these tracks that GOZD lay down the foundations for a slightly Doomed Out approach. They even find the time to add trombone to the album on the excellent fifth track Linden which is performed superbly well by Adam Kurek.

The album is mostly instrumental  which allows GOZD to have a sense of mystery to them and letting their music do all the talking especially in the later stages of the record. When the vocals do appear, they’re provided by Paulinia PrzychodzieĹ„-Witek and Damroca on the exquisite track Rusalka. This track feels inspired by the likes of RUSSIAN CIRCLES and PALLBEARER and is one of the standout tracks on the album with GOZD exploring a more emotionally charged style of Shoegaze, Doom and Post-Metal.

Trees Are Silent is a superbly produced album which allows GOZD to offer a more cautionary vision with areas of Ambient Rock and Post-Rock fully submitting to a more emotionally charged style of music which leaves you nodding or rocking out in full agreement. If you like you’re Post-Metal/Post-Rock records with a slightly EXPERIMENTAL quality then GOZD are the answer to your musical prayers.

This is a stunning and highly cinematic record that demands your full undivided attention!!!

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
