Review
Now I Bleed is the latest album from Doom/Stoner Metallers Ol’ Time Moonshine and it’s another bombastic style of Southern Metal, Psych and Swampedelic Grooves which has a classic hard rock sound filling up the sludgy landscapes that the band apply to the overall mix of the whole record. Taking creative cues from the NOLA scene with some detours into the modern Post-Doom and Post-Stoner genres with a thrilling Progressive attitude being heard very early on within the album.
The record is quite direct and superbly compact with Ol’ Time Moonshine using the compact run time held within all of the tracks to great effect where they apply a MAXIMUM LEVEL of grounded heaviness into their music with muscular grooves and vocals holding everything together. Ol’ Time Moonshine add heavy amounts of Space Rock surroundings into their music which allows them to form tighter sounds of classic Heavy Metal and Hard Rock attitude especially on tracks such as Poision, Royal QUeen, Witches, Creeping Bad and Dancing On Your Grave.
Now I Bleed is perhaps the band’s most aggressive and doomed out record to date which sees them create some wicked OCCULT METAL imagery along the way. The vocals mostly from Bill Kole are quite determined with plenty of heavy screams, gruff exterior and outlandish clean sounds emitting from the speakers. With a fast-paced and intense melody being played by everyone, the record never feels rushed with Ol’ Time Moonshine adapting their music to the whole gloomy and thrilling mood that resonates within every track.
There is a great sense of nostalgia with Ol’ Time Moonshine paying homage to their musical heroes and perhaps borrowing certain musical solos but they do this with the utmost love and care. However, they still add their own spin into the mix especially with the lyrics which means Now I Bleed feels like the perfect record for the HALLOWEEN season and not the summer month’s it’s being released upon.
Ol’ Time Moonshine is the type of band that plays Doom/Stoner Metal that comes straight from the heart and they always remain true to themselves and their creative beliefs. This allows Now I Bleed to be a record that’s superbly honest but one that’s brilliantly grounded with some sublime instrumental solos developing along the way. If you want a riff-fuelled Doom/Stoner Metal musical adventure that has a few GLOOMY surprises along the way then look no further as this album is the real deal.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.
