Karlshamn, Sweden’s underground heavyweights Signo Rojo return with a thunderous new statement in the form of their latest single, “I’ll see you there” with an accompanying musicvideo set for release on July 31, 2026 via Majestic Mountain Records .

For over fifteen years, Signo Rojo have been grinding their way through the depths of the Swedish underground, forging a sound that refuses to sit still. Blending the oppressive weight of sludge and doom with the raw urgency of hardcore and punk with a touch of 70’s progressive rock, the band has built a reputation the old-fashioned way: DIY, no shortcuts, no compromises.

With “I’ll see you there” Signo Rojo delivers a mammoth, riff-driven assault packed with spine-rattling low end and towering melodies. And in the background there is a lingering melancholy and sense of loss that shines through to complement the lyrical content.

Lyrically, “I’ll see you there” deals with grief and loss and the horror of being forced to watch someone wither away and being powerless to stop it. Something we all want to scream about at some point in our lives being made painfully clear in the crescending chorus.

Fans of Neurosis, Mastodon and Baroness will feel right at home, but make no mistake, Signo Rojo aren’t chasing anyone’s shadow. They’ve carved out their own lane and they’re driving straight through it.

“‘I’ll see you there comes from a really personal place and even though it hurts to talk about these things, it's important. Even heavy music should be able to be vulnerable.”

Behind the scenes, the band kept things tight and true to their roots. The single was produced by Signo Rojo themselves, with mixing and mastering handled by Elias Mellberg, giving the track a raw but massive sonic punch that feels both deliberate and unfiltered.

This release continues the build up for the upcoming album that is sure to blow the roof off of the underground scene.

The track digs into how personal development has been commodified, turned into something people think they can purchase, hack, or shortcut. The result? More often than not, people end up stuck, misled, or worse, exploited by systems that prey on vulnerability.

Review

Swedish Sludge Metallers have evolved from their early Atmospheric Sludge Metal sound to one of more riff-orientated rock/metal with a slight Stoner Metal undercurrent appearing on their stunning new album There Was A Hole Here. Embracing the modern rock route that Mastodon/Baroness transitioned early on in their career but the slight difference being that Signo Rojo appear still to be part of the Sludge Rock/Metal world. This album is definitely their most enjoyable and creative album yet.

Merging Psychedelic Rock grooves and Synths for a more engaging release that you can hear in full force and effect on the sublime opening song Enough Rope. A song that matches the early Sludge grooves of Mastodon and Baroness with the Riff Rock drive of CLUTCH. Signo Rojo still manages to hit upon some dark themes within the song but everything is so damn catchy with the different styles of music that the band employs here. The Psychedelic vibes and clean vocals work surprisingly well with Signo Rojo operating between their early Atmospheric Sludge sound but with a modern aesthetic being the main strength of the album which Signo Rojo uses for the rest of the album.

Second song Looking Glass Self opens with a Post-Doom/Post-Metal instrumental groove before the heavy aggressive vocals appear. The song is still down right catchy with Progressive guitars being played at a subtle fast pace. There's an element of Baroness's classic "Blue Record" around this song and perhaps this album but Signo Rojo bringing a slight Hardcore feel to the album. The track does embrace a "riff" methodology and becomes better for this style of music.

Third song The World Inside opts for a darker narrative with a gloomy outlook with a seedier sound with the vocals being more forceful. The Progressive Sludge/Stoner Metal backdrop is haunting whilst being firmly in the background. This is more of a cold Psychedelic track with Signo Rojo flirting between Post-Whatever worlds. The instrumental work has a great sense of clarity and distortion when Signo Rojo slows the mood right down for heavier elements of their music to appear.

The other impressive aspect of this album is the excellent use of different Psychedelic and Ambient sounds that allows Signo Rojo to sound vastly different from their last album. A highly imaginative creative style that fully takes over on outstanding tracks such as: There Was A Hole Here, What Love Is There, Also Ran and Botfly.

Signo Rojo perhaps went slightly darker on the later stages of the album with the most powerful grooves appearing on tracks such as There Was A Hole Here, What Love is There and Botfly. The final few songs sees Signo Rjojo become more DOOM & GLOOM orientated whilst still playing some of the most exciting riff-centric style of Sludge/Stoner Metal they've written to date.

Ace underground label Majestic Mountain Records is releasing this album and it's not hard to see why. So that's another mark of quality for folks to check out this album as well.

There Was A Hole Here is my favourite album from Signo Rojo and it's good to see the band taking more daring risks and creative choices with their music. This is the type of album that I wanted Baroness to release after The Blue Album. That's how great this album is and I'm hoping this album brings Signo Rojo more attention with the Sludge/Stoner Metal underground scene.

Signo Rojo was a band I was not expecting to hear from. So imagine my surprise and delight when the band announced they released a new album Svårfödd and sent a copy to review. An early Xmas Present for myself. As these guys was one of the very first bands to ever send me a promo to review when I started The Sludgelord back in 2011.

This album was meant to be released years ago but is now finally seeing the light of day now. Signo Rojo have endured an extremely tough time recording and releasing this album. Illness, personal issues and the folding of not one but two record labels that were meant to release this album.

Now Signo Rojo is finally here to proclaim their rightful place as one of the best upcoming bands from the infamous Swedish Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal scene. Their new album - Svårfödd - is an intense blast of Sludge/Post-Metal grooves merged with modern sounding Doom/Stoner Metal riffs. Sure the album may sound very similar to Baroness and Mastodon at times. Signo Rojo has managed to create an album that sounds remarkably frank and fresh in parts.

The opening three songs They Sell Conflict, Dead Horse and Holyman sees the band blast their way through a modern sounding progressive style of Sludge/Post-Metal riffs with harsh vocals to match. Baroness/Mastodon soundscapes are perhaps a direct influence but the band still manage to create an addictive and even slightly depressive doom metal atmosphere. The mixture of thrash based sounds and easy-going Sludge/Stoner Rock riffs have the right amount of passion and aggression to keep listeners entertained from the start.

Other songs on the album - Underminer, Under The Wheels Of The Juggernaut, Lockjaw and the brilliantly epic Fractal And Shapeless all show the hidden turmoil the band went through with the making the album. The lyrics and vocals are quite angry and heartfelt on different parts of the album. Signo Rojo do experiment and play with their sound on the album as they bring in elements of Post-Rock and Psychedelic Rock which allows their sound to be more expansive and even heavier in parts.

If you miss the good old days when Baroness/Mastodon were a primarily Sludge Metal band weren't focused more on their commercial aspects of their music then I recommend you give Signo Rojo a try. As these guys have the earlier classic sound of those two great bands but move it along a more Doomier and Psychedelic direction.

Signo Rojo are currently hard at work in releasing a new EP next year and I don't know if the guys will sound the same or moved onto something different altogether. Until then I recommend you immerse yourself with Signo Rojo's triumphant new album. As this is an exciting album that will hopefully put Signo Rojo back on the right path to greatness after so many difficult setbacks. They deserve every success coming their way with this record.
