Boss Keloid release new single 'Landslide' and announce new album on Church Road Records

Boss Keloid seemingly achieves the impossible with each album they create, upholding familiarity in their sound whilst never remaining static. They are forever growing new limbs on their tree of creativity. Even after a decade in the game, this tree remains evergreen as these UK prog-rock mainstays find new and exciting ways to catch the listener’s intrigue. This is never more present than on their forthcoming LP ‘Float & Aperture’, poised to greet you like a good friend who's ready to lead you on a new adventure of sonic wonder.

Before undertaking this latest project, the band sought to find ways to unlock new methods of creativity, finding the best path was through collaboration.

“We wanted to challenge ourselves and each other more than ever during the writing process for this album, and developed a completely new way of working together as a result. Our writing process was more collaborative, experimental, and challenging than ever. We encouraged each other to tap into our musical and personal influences, as well as life experiences to generate ideas. We wanted more focus and enjoyment around the interplay and dynamics between melody and rhythm, and a better clarity and balance between our instruments and parts. We couldn't be happier with the result, and believe this is our strongest work to date” - Boss Keloid

Like the band's previous work, the lyrical content of each song on the album is drawn from personal experiences, difficulties, and life lessons. Vocalist Alex Hurst works to shape and describe these stories in a way which can be interpreted on a personal level by anyone, and hopefully align with their own lives. He sums up the overall theme of the album as follows:

"Embracing life, rolling with the punches and the waves of beauty, and not being afraid to channel and express those experiences through art, music, love, anger and wisdom. Experience tells a story if you don’t mind sharing it."

Boss Keloid has an impeccable release history, having already given flight to five critically acclaimed albums over the course of their career. Their last album ‘Family The Smiling Thrush’ made it into Metal Hammer’s top releases of 2021 and had Dom Lawson from Blabbermouth proclaiming “If it's a modern classic you want, look no further”. This sentiment is also shared for their live performances. Truly at home on the stage, the band ascends to even greater levels than their recorded output, delivering incredibly powerful and life-affirming performances.

The long and short of it is, where Boss Keloid goes, greatness follows and there’s no exception with this latest outing. This is another amazing chapter in the career of a band with an already glowing and rich history. Long standing fans will have their hunger satisfied, and for those joining the ride here, get ready to have your minds blown by ‘Float & Aperture’. Civil Service Announce New Album ‘DARK ///’, out November 21st via A Cheery Wave Records and Ripcord Records.Manchester-based instrumental rock collective Civil Service return with their heaviest, most uncompromising work to date: ‘DARK ///’.

Following the band’s 2024 release ‘/// LIGHT’, which was a narrative exploration of humanity’s fleeting search for meaning - whereas its stark counterpart DARK /// shifts focus to the immovable obstacles in our way. Across its sprawling, atmospheric soundscapes, the record confronts the weight of mental health struggles, the silent toll of undiagnosed conditions, the futility of power against tyranny, and the desperate but faltering attempts to find solace in chaos.

“Where ‘/// LIGHT’ searched for illumination, ‘DARK ///’ is about all the walls we crash into along the way,” the band explains. “It’s isolation, despair, collapse—and the fractures in ourselves and our societies that we can’t escape.” - Civil Service

Formed in the aftermath of their previous indie projects dissolving, Civil Service took shape after the members’ shared experience at early editions of ArcTanGent Festival. Their vision was to create expansive, atmospheric instrumental rock, drawing inspiration from acts like Mogwai, 65DaysOfStatic, Mono, God Is An Astronaut, MaybeSheWill, and Alcest.

After a string of early singles, they emerged from the pandemic with Life///Death, before embarking on their ambitious double album project—split into /// LIGHT and DARK ///—both recorded with Dave Sanderson at Crystal Ship Studios.

Since 2022, Civil Service have carved out a reputation as a powerful live act. They’ve curated their own shows in Manchester, inviting peers such as Din Of Celestial Birds, Kusanagi, LOE, Mount Forel, and La Bestia De GavAudan, while also touring alongside Overhead The Albatross, FORT, and Blackshape. Their journey has also seen them share the stage with And So I Watch You From Afar and The Dear Hunter.

With DARK ///, Civil Service delivers an uncompromising soundtrack to a world on the brink—an album steeped in dread, but equally in defiance.

We Fail To Love Ourselves is the debut album from Post-Metal collective Adur who are made up of members from bands such as Grave Lines, Aerosol Jesus, Johnny Truant, and Sea Bastard. With great talent like that involved then you expect an album of great magnitude and Adur delivers that right across the board. Adur blends Post-Hardcore, Sludge Metal, Doom Metal and a sense of classic METALCORE keeping up the aggressive elements for the band to play the heaviest moments on the record.

Adur will appeal to fans such as BOTCH, CAVE IN, MASTODON, CULT OF LUNA, DEFTONES and CONVERGE. Though, there’s a sense of Pitch-Black mentality which could easily see bands such as THOU and DEAFHEAVEN being added. The record is constantly evolving atmosphere, moods and sheer brutal technical ability with Adur not settling on one straight-forward sound. 

The Post-Metal vibe is quite downbeat, violent and chaotic for the most part but there’s a sense of hopeful melodies that allows a brief sense of happiness and reflection to appear before Adur return to their fucked-up and destructive world. The emotionally charged themes and dark subject matter that Adur have written for this record offers a true reflection of the nasty shit going on in the world with the band telling a captivating story through the power of music.

The length of the track varies from a couple minutes to six minutes in length with frenzied Post-Metal passages appearing throughout. I’m not the biggest METALCORE fan but Adur have that aspect implemented brilliantly well especially on the technically impressive POST-METAL beats of tracks such as Silhouette, We Fail To Love Ourselves, The Longing, The One Percent and Self Control. Though, the shorter tracks that appear show Adur’s more tender Psychedelic, Ambient and Post-Rock side that allows the listener a breather before putting through another round of HARSH SOUNDSCAPES and intense Progressive Sludge Metal melodies.

The record has some huge talent involved behind the scenes with Wayne Adams (Petbrick) producing, proving once again why he’s one of the best producers around. You also have the legendary mastering talents of James Plotkin (Khanate) helping out as well. This helps We Fail To Love Ourselves to sound epic and brutally heavy from start to finish.

Adur have crafted a real punishing slab of Post-Metal that should open a lot of doors within the UK underground Sludge/Post-Metal scene where they can preach their music to the biggest audience possible.
