Review

All Them Witches have never been afraid to take risks with their music and it's seen them build their reputation with each album they've released so far. The band will be releasing their fifth album overall with ATW. ATW sees All Them Witches opt for a sixties sounding Psychedelic Rock sound compared to the heavier Blues/Stoner Rock sound of the last couple albums.

This is distinctively All Them Witches but with a more experimental feel as the band take influence from The Doors and Blue Cheers with bombastic heavy Psychedelic Rock sounds. The album is quite complex in places and long-time fans may take some time getting used to this album.

It's not as accessible to previous All Them Witches but when have the band ever played by the rules. The instrumental work is sublime as ever with the band creating a rawer sound. There are still elements of the sound from previous albums but they only appear for brief moments here and there.

Opening song - Fishbelly 86 Onions - is a very cool song to open the album with. As the band play a heavy psychedelic sound that may leave the listener questioning some of the bands creative choices. This album will take a few listens to fully admire and appreciate. The lyrics are superb and offer a twisted Americana vibe when merged with the heavy music that the band has written for this album.

The production is quite raw and less ambitious than we are used to from the band. However it's still a superb sounding album and it makes you feel more emotionally connected to the band. The other songs take a more experimental approach compared to the opening track with songs such as 1st vs. 2nd, Half Tongue, Diamond, Harvest Feast and Workhorse being the strongest tracks on the album.

Harvest Feast is perhaps the song that will excite fans the most as it's an eleven minute epic that sees All Them Witches blend Psych Rock, Classic Rock, Americana, Blues and Stoner Rock. Yeah you may think you've heard the band do this style of music before. Wait till you hear Harvest Feast. As it's delivered by a band who are at the top of their game.

I will admit this was a very hard album to review as the album changes into so many different directions. Some that we haven't heard from the band before. ATW proves why All Them Witches are one of the best and most important bands currently within the Psych/Stoner Rock scene.

There is no other band like them at the moment and ATW what makes them so unique. All Them Witches never release the same type of record twice and ATW maybe their best and most creative album to date. Well until the next album comes out of course….
