New Heavy Sounds Release THE BLACK HEART Fundraiser Compilation

London label New Heavy Sounds has released a new digital compilation album with all proceeds going to the #savetheblackheart crowdfunder. 

The Black Heart is an integral part of the UK underground heavy music scene and international touring circuit. The list of incredible bands that have played in the venue is endless. Can you imagine a heavy music community without The Black Heart? Yeah, neither can New Heavy Sounds.

The Black Heart has spent a year adapting their bar and venue to meet government guidelines due to this awful pandemic, but they can go no further on their own. They need to raise £100,000 by the end of March 2021, or they face the very real prospect of never reopening. The venue are independently owned and operated and are proud to have retained all their staff, because they're a family. They are now reaching out to the extended Black Heart family for support as they launch the #savetheblackheart crowdfunder.

The Black Heart has played an integral part in the New Heavy Sounds Record's story. The label themselves have put on numerous gigs on at the venue including a week of shows during which they saw a performance by Vodun that persuaded the label to sign them. Paul from the label comments,

'We have launched many of our albums at The Black Heart including Black Moth, Limb and Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard. Our latest signings, Mountain Caller have a date to play a socially distanced show at The Black Heart to launch their debut album. Our Japanese two-piece noise-makers Blacklab were set to play The Black Heart as part of 2020's Desert Fest.

Ged and I have drunk and hung out there and seen a ton of bands in recent years - we even spent a memorable New Year's Eve when we invited Rob from Limb to judge an air-guitar contest in The Black Heart Bar. We love the bar, the venue, the staff, the vibe, the lot.

The Black Heart is one of the crucial grass roots venues, if not the most important, for the heavy underground scene. Times are hard indeed and we cannot rely of any 'hand-outs' to keep our beloved scene alive and thriving, we have to do it ourselves. That is why New Heavy Sounds and our bands are giving our tracks to The Black Heart in this digital compilation in order to raise funds to keep the venue going beyond the Pandemic.’

Voices from the Void" is a charity compilation showcasing some of the best bands from the London Doom/Stoner/Sludge scene. It brings together heavy hitters Elephant Tree, sludge stalwarts Gurtand monstrous gloom purveyors Grave Lines with a whole host of established and up and coming talent. All on one 32 track behemoth of music.

Put together by London based musicians group, London Doom Collective, the album features a mix of previously unreleased tracks, recently released singles and some old favourites, all kindly donated to the cause by the bands and their record labels. There is something for everyone from the most avid collector to the totally uninitiated, and well worth the suggested donation of £4. The compilation will be available for purchase on June 5th via the London Doom Collective Bandcamp page.

The idea of the compilation was to bring together some of the best London based Doom/Stoner/Sludge bands to raise money for the Music Venues Trust campaign #saveourvenues. Grassroots venues across London and the surrounding areas are facing full closure after the country went into lockdown due to the current Covid-19 crisis. 

Some of them, without financial help, will NEVER reopen again. It is vitally important for the London music scene that these venues are able to stay open, not just for the metal community, but for all aspiring musicians in London. It was for this reason that LDC originators, doom band "Old Horn Tooth", decided to try and do something to help, and the concept of the compilation release was born. 

It has been a collaboration in the true sense of the word. Using the contacts and experience of every member of the Collective, a mighty playlist was put together featuring amazing artists from London, and a few friends from a little further out who were only happy to help out.The release date of June 5th coincides with the date that the BandCamp platform will be waiving their fees. It is hope that everyone who is interested in helping to save the best music scene in the world will use that day to buy a copy. Every single penny of the price will go to the MVT campaign.

About the London Doom Collective

The LDC was set up in 2019 by Chris Jones, Mark Davidson and Ollie Isaac of London based doom band Old Horn Tooth, together with a group of like-minded bands and musicians from across London. The aim of which was to create a network for putting on shows, helping to promote each others music and supporting the London Doom/Stoner/Sludge metal scene. 

The original concept featured six bands, Old Horn Tooth, The Red Widows, SALTBUCK, Borehead, Bad Frankenhausen and Grey Brain, who had met on the London underground circuit. From these bands the group has expanded to now boast around 15 incredible bands who aim to regularly create shows around London showcasing underground local talent, with the few additions of friends from outside the London scene. 

It's not an exclusive club, and we do welcome new supportive bands and artists that compliment the work we have put in over the last year. We also welcome bands from outside of London to get in touch...it's nice to have a fresh face on our bill. Things have obviously been put on hold due to the current Covid-19 crisis, but plans to resume as soon as we can are already under way. We hope to be able to put on the first instalment of a London Doom Collective all day show when we are allowed out to play again.
