Review

Doom/Stoner Metallers Doomsday Profit return with a heavier, seedier and more aggressive sound on their stunning sophomore record. The sound is boosted by harsh melodies and fast-paced grooves that moves the band closer to central NOLA and Southern Metal sound influenced by the likes of EYEHATEGOD especially with the nasty vocals and lyrics that’s been employed by the band for the record.

You can still hear influences by the likes of WEEDEATER, BONGZILLA and DOWN in places with Doomsday Profit adopting a cold calculated foray into areas of Thrash Metal and Speed Metal within the early stages of the record. There’s still a sense of twisted melody being generated by the excellent use of different areas of Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal rhythms. The vocals from Bryan Reed are continuously filthy with a guttural presence but most importantly quite easy to understand which allows the listener to easily follow the whole creative outline of the record.

The opening batch of songs of Stargazer, Spirits and The South Will Sink sees an eerily grim sense of rebellion with the down-tuned grooves full of THICK SMOKE and fucked up heavy attitude to match. The seedy Psychedelic movements have a stripped back approach which is laced with an almost nihilistic precision that allows Doomsday Profit to play some thrilling instrumental passages and a neverending supply of intense GLOOMY sludgy guitars sweetening the overall deal of the whole album.

The album is highly unpredictable with Doomsday Profit fully selling their violent musical adventure throughout with epic AMPLIFIER FEEDBACK and DOWN-TUNED REVERB appearing more directly on tracks such as Terror Cycle, Doomsday Profit, Sin Eater and the violently epic final track of Monument To Nothing. The record really shines when the band inject a sense of despairing true life themes into the mix which offers a more powerful statement of intent when the music is played at a cautious slow-to-mid pace.

With a cool small sideline into Progressive areas, Doomsday Profit are never afraid to try different things with their music and still deliver a pulsating, bleak and pissed musical odyssey which should keep the hordes of the underground scene firmly impressed and wanting more carnage in the long term future.

Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metallers are getting ready to release their third single of the year, "Drive Into The Sun" on March 19th 2025 and we're excited to premiere the video from this amazing band which you can view below

Doomsday Profit say this about the track:

"The song is a bit more upbeat than our usual fare — more inspired by stoner-rock and punk. Something like Fu Manchu driving Fucked Up's boogie van — right into the sun itself. 

Lyrically, "Drive Into The Sun" was inspired by road trips our bassist Ryan and I used to take to the NC coast to go surfing. We'd get up just before dawn, drive east, surf and hang out at the beach all day, then drive west into the sunset — sun burning our eyes in both directions. It felt like a metaphor in line with that quote urging the reader to to "find what you love and let it kill you." It's long been a favorite of mine, a motivation to push through hard times and sacrifice for the things that really matter.

If the cut-and-paste animation style didn't give it away, the video for "Drive Into The Sun" was created by our friend Eric, a former editor at The Hard Times and the mastermind behind the (hilarious) web series "Punk Rock Seinfeld."

These guys are going from strength-to-strength with their kick-ass songs they've released so far and this maybe my favourite track yet.

New Single and Lyric Video from NC Sludge/Doom outfit DOOMSDAY PROFIT

Doomsday Profit (Durham, N.C.) is pleased to announce the release of “Doomsday Profit,” the first single pulled from a new full-length album of the same name, due out later this year.

Barely letting the dust settle on last year’s split with Virginia psych-doom titans Smoke (Olde Magick Records), Doomsday Profit is ready to showcase the next era in the band’s sound. Recorded in summer 2024, “Doomsday Profit” is a long-gestating thesis statement, with pointed lyrics giving life to the band’s moniker, and a monolithic, minimalist arrangement mining the purest ores of sludge and doom

Regarding the song, the band offers the following statement:

“Doomsday Profit” was one of the first songs we wrote, and we always pictured it as a sort of thesis statement. Lyrically, at least, we were trying to marry the political vitriol of our favorite hardcore punk with the senses of dread and inevitability that course through the best doom metal. How else are you supposed to feel when you can watch, in-real time, as the string-pullers of global policy, the heads of major business and government, continue to casually ignore every warning of catastrophe, just so they can squeeze a little more blood and money out of the third stone from the sun? We’re all doomed, and they’re the reason.

Musically, it took us a while to find the right way to deliver “Doomsday Profit.” It just didn’t feel complete, so we shelved it. When David Ruiz joined the band, we revisited it, and ended up paring down the arrangement. In keeping it a little simpler, it felt like it hit harder, and the lyrics could stand out a bit more. Another lesson from punk rock, it seems.

This is the version of “Doomsday Profit” we’re glad to present to you today, Inauguration Day in the USA. And as we send this, things are still looking pretty bleak. But one thing this band has proven to us, over and over again, is we’re not alone in our fear, or our anger, or our resolve to live the best lives we can while we can. This one’s for all of us. There’s no time to waste. At least that’s how Doomsday Profit seems to be operating. After making their debut with the gritty stoner-sludge of 2021’s In Idle Orbit, the Durham, N.C.-based band issued 2024’s psych-leaning split with Virginia-based Smoke, and has kept the momentum going ever since. Review

We have two of the best upcoming bands from the Doom/Sludge/Stoner underground scene with Smoke and Doomsday Profit teaming up for this epic sounding split album release. Both bands try their hand at performing new sounds we haven’t heard from them before with each band offering three new tracks. Smoke’s music runs for around twenty minutes with Doomsday Profit going slightly shorter at around sixteen minutes.

Smoke are up first with their batch of tracks with Appalachian Black Magic, Scavenger and Hellish Rebuke with their NOLA fuelled take on Sludge/Stoner grooves. There’s an essence of classic sounding DOWN appearing within Appalachian Black Magic with a demonic and smokey SOUTHERN BOOGIE beat that soon sees the band change into a style of Southern Metal with an aggressive Stoner Metal beat. The vocals from Dalton Huskin have an essence of Proto-Doom behind them especially with how he delivers some of his lyrics behind a masquerade of finely tuned WEEDIAN smoke.

The songs are superbly constructed and aggressively melodic with moments of distorted grooves with the quieter moments of all the tracks. Appalachian Black Magic and Hellish Rebuke are the standout tracks from Smoke with a fine amount of hard rocking movements that powers through the barrage of modern day Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal with even time for Psychedelic energy starting to form with a glorious devilish FUZZ ROCK swagger. I admire the level of SONIC DISTORTION the band delivered with the superb second track Scavenger especially when matched against the Swamp Blues Metal sound they opt for the majority of their music.

Doomsday Profit are no strangers to the blog as I’ve featured them multiple times and you can call me a fan of their music and they don’t disappoint here. Their music is firmly rooted within the Sludge Metal sound with a gloriously downbeat DOOM METAL approach with that eerie flexible Psychedelic Stoner Metal edge that allows the band to play a classic style of Heavy Metal guitar solos along the way. There’s some influences from bands such as High On Fire, Mastodon and Motorhead being played here especially within their outstanding opening track No Salvation which has sublime harsh growls and vocals throughout. Though, it’s the music that impresses the most especially when the band blends distorted harmonics and multi-layered screeching guitars with a killer rhythm section adding more volume to the sound.

The other two tracks of I Am Your God and Void Ritual easily match the dark theatrics of No Salvation but there’s an even more despairing dirge ridden Sludge Metal vibe that feels like it was created within the pits of hell. However, the band’s vocals take a delightful and melodic turn whilst still having a DEVIL-ISH quality to them. The lyrics are primarily DOOM METAL obsessed but the band’s clever use of SONIC and PSYCHEDELIC textures allows Doomsday Profit to become part of the Post-Stoner or Post-Metal world at times before returning to their own dark domain.

Smoke and Doomsday Profit have delivered the fucking goods with this excellent split album release. This album gives both bands the chance once again to prove why they’re both worth giving a damn about and perhaps gain some more fans along the way. This is another standout split album release being released in 2024 and I implore you all to add this album to your record collection now.

Smoke (VA) & Doomsday Profit (NC) combine forces for a Split LP of Southern psych and doom, out Oct. 25 via Olde Magick Records

Rising psychedelic doom bands Smoke (Lynchburg, Va.) and Doomsday Profit (Durham, N.C.) are pleased to announce the release of a split album, set for release on Oct. 25 via Olde Magick Records.

The LP marks the first time either band will have their music available on vinyl, and includes five previously unreleased songs, as well as a re-mastered version of Smoke’s digital-only single “Scavenger.”

Both Smoke and Doomsday Profit have earned accolades for their previous efforts, but are taking big leaps on this split. Drawing from deep wells of Southern sludge and dark psychedelia, the split release builds upon the promise of both bands’ early efforts with an increasingly exploratory approach to doom, sludge, and heavy psych — both heavier and spacier than the releases that preceded it.

The strains of doom, stoner-rock, sludge, heavy psych and Southern metal that course through the split should appeal to fans of acts as disparate as All Them Witches and Buzzov-en.

Along with the announcement of the release, Doomsday Profit’s lead single “No Salvation,” a longtime fixture of the band’s live sets, is now available to stream.

DOOMSDAY PROFIT Announce Fall Tour; Begin Recording New Full-Length

Southeast tour dates include shows with Black Lung, Cosmic Reaper, Smoke, Shun and more

In 2021, Doomsday Profit emerged with their debut EP, In Idle Orbit. (Stream it here.) The dystopian fusion of sludge metal grit, stoner-doom groove, and psych-rock sizzle was hailed by genre tastemakers as “damn near perfect” (The Sleeping Shaman) and “soon to be iconic“ (The Killchain), while drawing comparisons to Conan, Electric Wizard, and “Weedeater on a mean streak.” (Toilet Ov Hell) The strong critical reception to In Idle Orbit landed the EP in the top 20 on Doom Charts‘ monthly rankings for November, 2021, and at No. 94 on the same site’s year-end Top Albums list.

The release of In Idle Orbit, also kickstarted an active touring schedule for the Raleigh, N.C.-based band. Performing throughout the Southeast, Doomsday Profit has shared stages with the likes of Cosmic Reaper, USX, Thunderchief, REZN, Black Tusk, Restless Spirit, Snake Mountain Revival, and Thou, while building a reputation for their heavy and engaging sets.

This Fall, the quartet of singer/guitarist Bryan Reed, lead guitarist Kevin See, bassist Ryan Sweeney, and drummer Tradd Yancey, will spend August at The Sandwich Shoppe studio in Oxford, NC to begin tracking a full-length album, with producer Scotty Sandwich (Lydia Loveless, Mikey Erg, Wolvesx4) once again steering the recording process.

In September, Doomsday Profit hits the road again for a string of Southeastern shows, including six dates with Cosmic Reaper (Heavy Psych Sounds), two with Black Lung (Heavy Psych Sounds), and two with Smoke (Olde Magick Records). See below for the full dates.

Review

Psych Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal quartet Doomsday Profit make an almighty racket on their debut EP In Idle Orbit. Running past the 35 minutes mark, Doomsday Profit channel the heavy aggression of bands such as CONAN, Bongzilla and seedy lyrical outlook such as Church Of Misery. Maybe not about serial killers but a similar feeling with the bleak tone of lyrical content. Throw in a major Psychedelic curve ball along the way and Doomsday Profit are a band to get truly excited about.

The six songs on the EP are varied and sees Doomsday Profit stretch the whole divide of the Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal genres with a punishing array of aggressive grooves and tone. The EP sees the band play a different style of sounds such as slow-paced, fast-paced, aggressive and non-aggressive based music. The band classify this release as an EP when it could be their debut album. As they cover a lot of ground with punishing LOW & SLOW atmospheric grooves on the opening two songs: Crown Of Flies and Scryers Of The Smoke.

The distorted heavy psychedelic vibes spliced throughout both songs made me take notice as this is stuff you’re meant to hear from bands such as EARTHLESS not a Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal band such as this. This part of the EP reminds me of UFOMAMMUT when the band really start to come into their own sound especially when the heavy guitars begin to drift off into sonic territory.

There is a dirty Blues Rock/Metal element lurking amongst the majority of the songs and it allows Doomsday Profit to have a more volatile edge with distorted guitars, harsh aggressive vocals and intelligent drumming leading upto the EP’s finest moments on songs such as Cestoda, Consume The Remains and Destroy The Myths.

The final song “Bring Out Your Dead'' may put some people off at first as it’s an instrumental Drone/Doom/Sludge Metal song that feels like it’s the least “interesting” song on the album. However, look behind the surface and you’re treated to a first class exercise in Drone/Doom Metal riff worship that compare to the mighty BONG with a little bit of SUNN 0))) for good measure.

In Idle Orbit is a superb debut release from Doomsday Profit and they truly live upto the “DOOM” part of their name. “DOES THIS DOOM” always seems to be the most popular question around within the Doom Metal Scene and this most definitely does with a HELL FUCKING YEAH IT DOES!!!

Doomsday Profit Announce New Album INTO THE ORBIT And Release New Song CONSUME THE REMAINS

Raleigh, N.C. psych-sludge outfit Doomsday Profit have just released a new single, "Consume the Remains." The song is taken from their forthcoming album In Idle Orbit, to be released on Nov. 12, 2021, and which is available for pre-order now.

Offering a searing meditation in anger, Doomsday Profit's debut EP floods its dystopian visions with snarling psychedelic grit and deep-dredged sludge riffs that calls to mind the relentless pummeling of Conan, as well as the cosmic excursions of Earthless; the bad-trip acid-rock of Church of Misery, as well as the scuzzy blues of Dopethrone.

With "Consume the Remains," Doomsday Profit merges desert-rock groove with death ‘n’ roll bile. Piling onto the song's foundational riff and deep groove, the band cakes on with tar-thick sludge before launching it into a dark, psychedelic abyss.
