Witchy Atmospheric Doom Unit FRAYLE To Tour Europe This November

Hot off the heels of their latest release "Skin & Sorrow", Cleveland, Ohio’s atmospheric and gothic doom merchants FRAYLE have announced a European tour kicking off on November 1st, 2022. The tour will see the band playing shows and festivals in the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, UK, and Germany.

Heavy music media giants Revolver Magazine recently named Frayle as “one of the 5 bands you need to know”. They said, “Frayle takes a cinematic approach to doom, conjuring up witchy atmosphere, mesmerizing groove passages and hushed melodies that hypnotize the listener into their eerie spell - only to snap them out of it with crashing breaks of cascading distortion.”

FRAYLE was formed in 2017 by guitarist Sean Bilovecky (formerly of now-defunct Man's Ruin recording artists Disengage) and vocalist Gwyn Strang, a singer with an alluring voice and an equally compelling flair for imagery. Their “lullabies over chaos” approach to songwriting allows the group the freedom to explore what is possible with heavy music; its gorgeously ominous sound is a result of complex layering and tone stacking while simultaneously overseeing the perfectly delicate balance between heaving, heavy riffs, and haunting vocal melodies.

 

Says the band: “We look forward to seeing everyone again in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium as well as meeting new fans and friends in the UK, Denmark and Sweden. This album has been a long time in the making and we can’t wait to share these new songs with our fellow Heretics."

Frayle burst upon the scene back in 2018 with their debut EP – The White Witch – and the whole Doom/Stoner Rock world went slightly crazy over this hugely talented duo. A couple of singles followed alongside another critically acclaimed EP - Dead Witch – which received further acclaim for the band. Now Frayle are back with their eagerly anticipated debut full length – 1692.

The album is named after when the infamous and horrific Salem Witch Trials happened and Lead Vocalist Gwyn Strang said this about the album - “1692', as the title of our album, references those who have been singled out and persecuted for their beliefs, We strive to create a safe haven. A place to be vulnerable amongst the chaos.”

1692 is a stunning journey into the dark world of Frayle and sees the band develop their sound on a more personal and emotional level with strands of Doom Metal, Occult Rock, Post-Rock and Stoner Rock with Gothic sensibilities. The band never shy away exploring many different creative musical avenues on this album and it makes for a more haunting and progressive journey.

The songs all flow perfectly together with Frayle playing a blend of Heavy Grooves and Sultry vocals from Gwyn. The band feel more mature and grown-up on this album. As they have more time to explore their creative passion and play some epic progressive sounds that leave little to the imagination.

1692 in many ways feels and plays along like a classic “Concept Album” with songs such as 1692, God Of No Faith, Monsters and Darker Than Black setting up the scene for an intriguing story with lush vocals and intelligent lyrics to match. The music more than matches the dark tone of Gwyn’s vocals and allows the album to stand as a highly original listen from start to finish.

The second half of the album carries on the dark story but Frayle also offer moments of Hope and Belonging with euphoric Post-Rock vibes appearing here and there. The music is first-rate throughout and you can tell that Frayle put their hearts and souls into this album.

The production is excellent with the production handled by Frayle themselves with top-notch studio work by Sean who handled Recording, Mastering and Mixed duties. So a great team-effort all round that makes the album sound amazing throughout.

Frayle are one of the most dynamic and exciting new voices within the Doom/Stoner Metal world and this album proves that. 1692 is an exquisite album that will no doubt launch Frayle onto bigger and better things.

FRAYLE Announce New Video For GODS OF NO FAITH

Cleveland dark rock band Frayle creates gripping, doomy music -- at once bleak and beautiful -- that is impossible to resist. The group will release its debut full-length LP, '1692', on the 14th February 2020 via Aqualamb Records and Lay Bare Recordings.

The band have released the video for Gods of No Faith, which originally premiered on Monday 16th December via Revolver who described the group's sound as a "haunting, hypnotic mix of crushing Sleep-style doom and cooing ethereal vocals à la Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser."

"Gods of No Faith is a song about my belief that we are all Gods. Consciously or subconsciously, we create our own world. We can either be weighed down by our belief system or rise up because of it." Comments vocalist Gwyn Strang.

The video was produced and directed by The Tower and features former Filter bassist Frank Cavanagh, who took on dual roles as both actor and Assistant DP. The track itself features guest vocals from Mushroomhead’s Jason Popson a.k.a J Mann.

Review

Frayle are a Doom/Stoner Rock band with an Occult and Gloomy presence hidden within their music. The band say they take influence from Sleep, Black Sabbath, Portishead, Bjork and Kyuss. And truth be told that’s a pretty accurate description of how their debut EP – The White Witch – sounds like.

A collection of four songs that merge gloomy atmospherics with progressive Sludge/Desert/Stoner Rock passages. The vocals from Gwyn are perhaps one of the strongest aspects of the EP with the music coming a close second. As Gwyn is the main focus of this EP. The music is fantastic throughout as well. With Frayle even including a heavy Post-Metal feel on songs such as Let The Darkness and Things That Make Us Bleed.

Frayle include a cover of Portishead classic – Wandering Star – and they totally own this song. As the song is very different to the original. Perhaps more gloomy and more sombre than the original.

The future is bright for Frayle. Check this EP out before they move onto bigger and better things. As The White Witch is perhaps Frayle’s calling card to bigger and better things within the Doom/Stoner Metal community.
