Review

Sludge/Stoner Rockers – Electric Age debut album – Sleep Of The Silent King has a lot going for it. NOLA influenced riffs with a massive Thin Lizzy influence running throughout.

Sleep Of The Silent King is a good old fashioned album where the lyrics are just as important as the riffs. Electric Age play a thrilling blend of Sludge, Stoner, NOLA and Southern Metal all held together by a classic Thin Lizzy sound. Opening tracks – The Threshold and Shepherd And The Raven have a quite a psychedelic feel with lead singer – Shawn having a slight Phil Lynott vibe and that allows Electric Age to standout from the NOLA/Southern Metal crowd. Though Shawn opts for a more NOLA/Southern Rock style of vocals on later stages of the album.

The production on the album is excellent from start to finish as the sound is crisp and clear. Songs such as Cold Witch, Black Galleons, Silent King, Elders, Electric Age and The Dreaming are the albums most exciting moments. As Electric Age impress the most on the more epic songs as they have more time in creating classic sounding Sludge/Stoner Metal with moments of Blues and Psych Rock making an appearance here and there.

Even though this is a great album, it's a little bit too long. Maybe the band should have left out a couple of songs as it may test some listeners patience. Then again why am I complaining about this. I love the NOLA scene and Thin Lizzy is one of my favourite ever bands. That is perhaps why I enjoyed this album so much. As Electric Age merge a wide range of classic familiar sounds against the more modern Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs.

All in all, Sleep Of The Silent King is a thrilling and exciting album that many hard rock, sludge and stoner metal fans will find much to enjoy. This is another quality release from perhaps the busiest record label currently out there – Argonauta Records. That ranks as another mark of quality being signed to that great label. Though this is Electric Age's show and they deserve the plaudits hopefully coming their way.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
