Review

Italian Ambient/Post-Doom/Sludge Riffsters – Nudist – return after a two year hiatus with a new record called Bury My Innocence. Taking off where their last album – See The Light Beyond The Spiral – finished. Nudist return with a more harsher and psychedelic sound.

Opening track – Strengthless – sees Nudist play a distorted blend of Sludge, Doom, Psych and Post-Metal. The song has a slight Neurosis/Ufomammut feel with the twisted vocals adding a nightmarish gloomy atmosphere. Nudist throw caution to the wind near the end of the song with one the albums finest moments as the riffs have quite an euphoric post-rock/post-metal feel.

Second track – Bury My Innocence – is a straight up Sludge/Doom Metal song as Nudist leave the post-rock/post-metal theatrics behind for a more punk/stoner metal driven sound. The song has a few moments of ambient noises with the band showing a keen eye for experimental sounds amongst the heavy guitar work.

Third track – Bloody Waters – opens with a groove metal sound with Nudist taking their time adding their familiar Doom/Sludge Metal riffs. The vocals are harsh throughout but at least you can understand them. This song is what I would call Experimental Stoner Metal as it has quite a cool and subtle Hard Rock groove on different parts of the song.

The final two tracks – Dead Leaves and Drift – offers 12 final minutes for Nudist to impress you with. Though the tone of the record becomes slightly darker and more experimental in nature. Nudist play perhaps the heaviest riffs on these two final songs with Dead Leaves being the main highlight. Drift opens with a more sombre dronish/post-rock quality as Nudist yet again take their time bringing the heavy vibes to the party.

You have to give the band credit for releasing something different as they could have easily released See The Light Beyond The Spiral Part Two. As it stands, Bury My Innocence is another superb album from Nudist. Though it's one album that will appeal to the more adventurous Doom/Sludge/Post-Metal fan.

You can hear the record yourself with this exclusive album stream. Thanks to the kind folks over at Argonauta Records.
