Review

Maira's debut S/T EP is something that won't appeal to everyone. The band play a familiar style of Post-Rock with the band adding dark elements to their music.

The piano interludes on the opening track EOS add a nice calming influence before the and move into heavier territories by adding post-metal style riffs. It does take some time for the song to fully come alive especially with the psychedelic and ambient based sounds.

Second track – ATE – sounds like the band will be following the same path as EOS before the band changing into a heavier post-metal or post-black metal style collective. Why couldn't the opening track be like this one. This is the most exciting track on the EP with the band showing their true talent. Heavy post-rock/post-metal guitars and bleak vocals with superb clean vocal passages being added at different parts of the track.

The production is very raw and this is an EP that could have done with more work as the instruments have a slight under-produced feel. I maybe complaining too much on this EP and I make no apologies for that. However, if the guys can focus on the sounds featured on ATE then they maybe onto something here. I can't tell until Maira release something more substantial apart from this EP.

Maira are very talented and they show their true potential on ATE. I'll still be keeping an eye on these guys in the future as I'm intrigued on where they will go next.
