Review
TarLung explores many different areas of Heavy Rock/Metal with glimpses of Prog Metal, Space Rock, Post-Metal and Stoner Metal. The album is constantly engaging and even from the excellent opening song Infinity, you can tell the band have an intelligent story to tell with cool as hell lyrics and music that spans the Doom/Sludge Metal COSMOS. There are shades of early Mastodon and CONAN on this track but told with a blackened outlook on life
Second song - Widow’s Bane - starts off rather interesting with a Post-Doom instrumental style interlude before TarLung settle upon a mixture of Sludge Metal and Post-Metal riffs that bring a sense of “IMPENDING DOOM” to the album. The song is more atmospheric than psychedelic but it’s effective with TarLung offering one of the best tracks on the album.
The band continue their bleak “spiritual” odyssey within 4 other songs on the album and this sees the band bring heavier sounds and creative ideas for the album. The atmosphere can be downright ugly and aggressive at times but TarLung knows when to take a step back and bring a more “sedated” and “melodic” rhythm and sees the band play some of the best and most interesting music of their career to date. Especially on songs such as: Weight Of Gravity, Horses Of Plague and Architect.
Architect feels and sounds like an “ADVENTURE” and if you’re on the lookout for a bleaker style of Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal with “HIGHLY ATMOSPHERIC” themes then TarLung will have something to say to you….
Excellent and Highly Recommended.
