Review

Noorag is an Instrumental One-Man Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal Band from Italy and I’m going to let their BandCamp Bio describe their music.

“Sludgy and Groovy multivitamin instrumental baritone riffs from a futuristic post atomic nuragic civilization. Noorag is a one man band bearing a wandering studio and a bunch of random unreccomendable friends.”

Their debut EP fossils is a raw mix of Instrumental Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal groove that has a slightly Industrial feeling. The “baritone” style works with the raw atmospherics and lo-fi production values that’s been used for this release. However, there’s still some sublime instrumental grooves being played here. Taking cues from bands such as Pelican, Russian Circles, and Animal As Leaders. As the music is more Prog based with a slight “Tech Metal” sound especially on tracks such as hhon, amanita shot and brachiopod.

The later stages does contain an element of Groove Metal which gives Noorag a more unrelenting presence. The songs on this EP are short, sharp and very concise which allows Noorage to play an intense blast of aggressive grooves that are even quite catchy in places.

The EP is quite short, lasting under fifteen minutes. I did want to hear a couple more tracks but I know the reasons why and time is hard to come by for the creative maestro behind Noorage. However, I want to hear more whenever Noorag finds the time to do this.

All in all, fossils is a superbly entertaining release despite the lo-fi production techniques used for the EP.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
