The record is described by the band as a single track that explores depression through the eyes of eldritch horror, culminating in an unrelenting shadow that’s imparted on its sufferer.
The band commented on the forthcoming release: “Since our formation we’ve had a desire to create something hugely epic. Umbra evolved from the depths, and through a single 43-minute concept explores the battle of light stalked by darkness. We’re really excited to be working with Meuse Music Records who have been incredibly supportive of bringing our vision to life."
Working again with producer and engineer Mike Exeter, Umbra promises to deliver the highly expressive and dynamic doom Gévaudan are known for, with monolithic riffs, soaring and tortured vocals, melodic instrumental interjections and lyrical guitar solos. The impressive cover artwork has been developed by Erskine Designs which completes the immersive thematic.
Meuse Music Records added: "Gévaudan are a really exciting addition to our artist roster. We loved the record as soon as we first laid ears on it, and are very happy to be collaborating on Umbra's release."
Umbra will be available on digital, vinyl and CD formats, with preorders available from 1st September.
The band have also announced they will be supporting the release with an exclusive launch show at Fiddlers Elbow, London on Friday 13th October where they will be playing the release in its entirety. Tickets are available here: https://www.wegottickets.com/event/589810

Blending heavy and progressive riffs, Iommi-esque solos, truly dynamic song writing and a strong story thematic, Gévaudan have carved their own unique niche within the genre of doom. Whilst they lean strongly on epic and traditional doom influences, the band also draw upon progressive and 70’s psychedelia to create their sound.
The four-piece deliver live performances that ebb and flow, and are always excellently received by the doom, and wider metal, fraternity, their festival appearances (including Desertfest London, Hammerfest and Doom vs Stoner) have received huge plaudits from both press and fans alike. They are a well-regarded and established act in the UK doom scene.
Since their formation in 2013, they have evolved their sound from their early Eps. ‘Iter’, their first full length offering, was a big step forward and brought in a far more emotive feel to their music. Subsequently, Gévaudan have been consistently praised for their take on the genre, being described as; ‘strong of riff’, ‘powerful’, ‘emotionally involving’ and ‘hypnotic’. Iter has received an outstanding reception and was recognised in several end of year lists, and lauded as a potential album of the year in some underground circles.
About Meuse Music Records:
MEUSE MUSIC RECORDS was founded in early 2021 by Jean-François Galler. Serge Manzato and Denis Halleux joined the label in April and July 2021. The label is equally owned and managed by the three of us.
We launched the label and we're running it according to our passion for music and desire to help artists and bands we like. We are friends, we come from different musical universes but we all fell in love with music in our childhood.
At first music enthusiasts, some of us have also been actors in the music scene for years. We all have our area of expertise and are highly complementary in the label management.
MEUSE MUSIC RECORDS is an independent label and mail-order for Doom, Stoner, Atmospheric Black/Doom, Funeral Doom, Black, Post-Black, Death, ...,Shoegaze, ..., and everything we like in between...
We are located in Liège (Belgium), on the Meuse river valley which gave her name to the label.
