Review:
Holographic Fuzz is the new EP by Grunge/Desert/Stoner Rockers 10% Reptile that is a catchy and chaotic style of warped sounds flowing with Punk Rock energy. The band ultimately live within the creative confinements of the classic 1990’s Desert/Stoner Rock scene with the vocals having a more Grunge based delivery.
Opening song City And The Furnace is fuelled by Punk Rock aggression with the music moving into areas into familiar sounding Desert/Stoner Rock grooves with some trippy lo-fi production values that are wickedly surreal at times especially with the snazzy guitar work that accompanies the song. There is a killer bass line from Marc Tommolino which allows 10% Reptile to have a more “OUTLAW” edge to their music with Damon Tommolino’s superb vocals being more soulful.
Second song Unfamiliar Hazard opts for a blend of semi acoustic guitars and heavy grungy guitars that takes a few creative sidelines from bands such as QOTSA and Soundgarden. The song has wonderful styles of classic sounding grungy attitudes and fast-paced Stoner Rock aggression. 10% Reptile focuses mostly on heavier psychedelic sounds on the later stages of the track which allows the record to be a more thrilling style of music.
Third song The Last Patrician sees 10$ Reptile go for a heavier style of music with that subtle Desert/Stoner Rock energy being quite melodic despite the grunge/noise rock aspects of the track. The music changes into some heavier extended jams which even fuses standard HEAVY METAL themes but sounds remarkably fresh with 10% Reptile bringing this style of music into their own grunge dominated world. My favourite track on the EP and it’s not hard to see why.
The final two songs of Don’t Let A Good Thing To Waste and Nothing’s What It Seems To Be has a more Blues Rock direction with a slight detection of heavier Alternative passages which all drift back to 10% Reptile’s earlier grooves they played on the EP.
Nothing’s What It Seems To Be is the heaviest and most OTT track on this EP and allows 10% Reptile to wrap up things in convincing fashion for a release that is full of Grunge/Stoner Rock world-weary charm.
Holographic Fuzz is another exciting and winning chapter from 10% Reptile and deserves your full attention.
