Review
WHITEHOVSE is a Psych/Doom/Stoner Rock band from Indonesia who bring a gritty style of mysticism into their music on their splendid debut album The Mighty One. The record can be quite THRASH and GROOVE based amongst the dirge riff based melodies that the band construct here. WHITEHOVSE are inspired by the likes of SLEEP, Alice In Chains, Black Sabbath and Mastodon with a sound that is quite Sludge Rock/Metal dominant which appears very early on tracks such as Endless Sorrow, Falling Crown and Dead Rolling.
The Mighty One is fuelled by fast-paced grooves and aggressive soundscapes which allows some impressive solos to appear that is perhaps inspired by the 90’s and 00’s Heavy Rock/Metal scene which is no bad thing with WHITEHOVSE allowing themselves the perfect opportunity to create their own sound. The vocals from Chandra are from the “OLD SCHOOL” era of Doom, Grunge and Stoner Metal which are superbly delivered throughout.
The production values are superb and have a gritty underground feel which allows the music to sound quite organic, muscular and with the right level of heaviness appearing at the most critical moment. There’s a great reliance on AMPLIFIER DISTORTION which results in some epic noisy feedback and psychedelic textures building upon tracks such as Dead Rolling, Silence Of The Soul, Against THe Wall and The Mighty One.
WHITEHOVSE feel like they’re veterans of the Heavy Metal scene with The Mighty One being a highly confident and superbly entertaining record that has massive amounts of style and great sounding grooves to match.
Another highlight is the different style of melodies and progression that WHITEHOVSE develops for each song and even being bold to change the tempo into something you wouldn’t expect. This gives the record quite a FEARLESS approach which results with some of the heaviest and standout grooves being heard at different stages of the album.
Overall, The Mighty One is most definitely worth checking out and showcasing a great band from the Indonesian Rock/Metal scene. WHITEHOVSE delivers the goods here and you should add this to your collection now.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.
