Review

High Downer Rock Duo Burning Sister are back with their blazing new single Lethe//Oblivion which sees the band dive right into a heavy smoky atmosphere of down-tuned jams and weedian pleasures with a subtle FUZZ ROCK backdrop of hazy psychedelics. There's an extra level of distorted seediness which has a classic Grunge / Shoegaze vibe developing behind the scenes.

With a nightmarish vision starting to form, Steve Miller is in fine demented form on vocals, bass and synth duties. His vocals are quite different to previous Burning Sister releases. This does feel that Steve is coming down from a bad ACID TRIP and being revived in the real world. Though, my favourite part is the excellent drumming from Alison Salutz. In my mind, Alison delivers and conjures up the heavy rhythms that really makes the song actually come to life.

Steve’s bass is LOUD and VIVID but Alison’s drumming is absolutely essential to the whole track and this is perhaps my favourite track that Burning Sister have made yet. It’s quite seedy, surreal and psychotic but also beautifully heavy in a twisted and disjointed kind of way. This is what HIGH DOWNER ROCK is meant to be and if this is the first sign of what to expect from Burning Sister’s upcoming new album GHOSTS then we maybe experiencing a brief glimpse into something extra special from the band.

Lethe//Oblivion is simply magnificent. Plain and simple.
