Review

Blink is the new album from Instrumental/Doom/Stoner Rock duo Bident where they offer a stripped back sound with a slightly warped Electronica/Industrial based atmosphere. The sound is fast paced and can be quite eclectic, messy and misunderstood at times but there’s a superb chaotic melody to their music. This isn't the most straightforward record and does have a fascination for the late great Steve Albini throughout the record. You can hear echoes of The Melvins with its fangled experimental sound.

The prog rock dimension of Blink is a big part of how Bident deliver with their music with a intense “STOP / START” and Psychedelic melody which slowly starts form on the early tracks of Psychological Ranking, Calorina Leaper and Oh Fucking Hell. You can see Bident focusing upon areas of Math Rock and Noise Rock more and more with Sylvy’s wicked drumming. Sylvy is also part of Doom/Stoner Metal collective Purple Kong and the performance here is vividly different with Sylvy perhaps having more creative control on this record alone. The band is rounded up by Dave on bass and he performs some epic progressive grooves to Sylvy’s intense drum beats.

Blink does allow Bident to add a level of Post-Rock and Sludge Rock heaviness with the intricate touches of Industrial, Electro and Psych Rock sounds that appear only when they need to be. The record does become more melodic and riff-centric from the middle stages of Two-Note Pony and Moody with that sonically charged Psychedelic Warfare sound being added within the background.

The second half of the album is sonically diverse as the first half with Sylvy and Dave flirting with Sludge Rock and Noise Rock instrumental wastelands that leave a lasting impression on tracks such as Thinking WIth A Moshcap On, Bovine Joni and That Sad. Bident have done themselves proud with this release which offers a daring and highly inventive take on the standard Instrumental Stoner Rock/Metal sound.

Check this out when you can as Blink is an outstanding record with the killer abstract production values giving this album a surreal dose of heaviness you should least experience once in your lives.
