Review
Doomsday Delight is the latest EP from Doom/Stoner Rockers Danakil Heat which follows their debut EP Life On The Green Planet which was released earlier this year. This EP follows the same path with the band playing a cool style of Grunge, Sludge, Psych and Punk into the mix. The sound has a meaningful Garage Rock vibe which appears within the stripped back production values.
The EP contains three tracks and runs for over sixteen minutes in length. Danakil Heat take influence from the likes of KYUSS, FU MANCHU and Monster Magnet but perhaps operate with a more Spaced Out and Doom Rock focus. It’s not the most original of sounds but Danakil Heat play to their strengths here by writing slightly destructive and apocalyptic lyrics into the mix. The songs hold your interest by moving into different areas of HEAVY RAWK with catchy Punk Rock vocals holding everything together especially on the superb opening title track.
There’s a playful energy to Danakil Heat’s music that does become way more aggressive with each passing moment with the band slowly moving into Scorched Desert Earth territory on tracks such as One More Life and Searching The Stars. I admire the haunting Nineties Grunge atmosphere and melodies that start to appear within One More Life that reminds of SOUNDGARDEN and AUDIOSLAVE in places.
Doomsday Delight is a great way to spend sixteen minutes of your day listening to good old fashioned STONER METAL grooves that will make you fully appreciate the music that Danakil Heat brings to the underground scene. The guys do show signs of huge promise and real potential here and I’m looking forward to hearing new music from the band in the near future.
