Review

Doom/Stoner Metallers BORRACHO release their latest record Eternos which is a covers EP where the band pay homage honoring five beloved friends and musical influences who have passed on over the years. This is a great collection of tracks honouring Dave Sherman (Spirit Caravan), Rev. Jim Forrester (Foghound), Will Mecum (Karma To Burn), Bruce Falkinburg (The Hidden Hand) and Robert “Strings” Dahlqvist (The Hellacopters). BORRACHO bring their legendary style of Streetwise Doom/Stoner Metal to some classic tracks whilst remaining true to the original versions.

Sometimes the sound is more aggressive, heavier and more sludge obsessed compared to the originals especially with the excellent vocals as well. However, BORRACHO pulled off a masterclass performance on all of the tracks especially on Fang, Keep On Shovelling and Twenty Nine. The music is superbly contained with BORRACHO allowing each of the individual tracks to have their own sound and feel which perfectly captures the bands that they’re paying huge respect to with Damyata and A Heart Without A Home being actual new tracks that I haven’t had much experiences with. Though, I can see why the guys have picked these tracks. 

Eternos has excellent production values throughout with BORRACHO maintaining that seedy underground style which has served them well throughout their own epic career. After delivering a standout album in 2025 with OUROBOROS, it’s good to see the band trying something different with Eternos whilst giving something back to the Doom/Stoner Metal scene.

Sludge/Stoner Metallers Blazoner return with a covers EP called Sonic Chambers where they play a selection of their favourite tracks they’ve even played live over the years. This is the selection of tracks they’ve included on the release.

You can’t say that Blazoner have played it safe here as they absolutely haven't with some classic tracks throughout the last sixty years of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Each track is giving a fresh perspective with a Punk Rock spirit forming whilst staying true to the original. These versions maybe slightly faster and chaotic than their original versions and that’s no bad thing especially on Jumpin’ Jack Fash, I’m In Love With My Car and Travellin’ In The Dark being the prime examples.

Musically speaking, Blazoner are on fire putting in a spectacular performance throughout with a sudden Psychedelic Stoner Metal urgency being played within the classic rock sounds of The Rolling Stones, Queen and Genesis really standing out. The vocals are bombastic and brilliantly outrageous when they’re really needed. Each band member provides vocals throughout and I have to say the standout vocal performances are on I’m In Love With My Car, Copache and Travellin’ In The Dark.

The standout cover has to be the cover of the Melvins track - Copache. As I believe this is the track that struggled with the most in the studio despite playing it countless times live. You wouldn’t be able to notice from this great cover. As it has a fearless quality that doesn’t stray from the original. What makes Sonic Chambers such a great EP is that it ultimately still feels like an actual BLAZONER release. As what made their 2023 debut album such a standout with spiky vocals, insane grooves and action packed melodies that aims straight for the jugular is kept intact right here. 

Sonic Chambers is an absolute riot with BLAZONER showing why they're at the top of their game and actually delivering a record that’s outrageously addictive and actually leaves you wanting more. I’m hoping a new full length album isn’t too far behind.

BLAZONER Announces First Single "I'm In Love With My Car" From Upcoming Covers EP Sonic Chambers

Fredericksburg, Virginia heavy rock trio BLAZONER has released "I'm In Love With My Car," the first single from their upcoming covers EP Sonic Chambers, due out February 13, 2026. The track offers an electrified and harmony rich reinterpretation of the classic QUEEN deep cut.

The band approached the recording with a mix of respect, intensity, and playfulness. Drummer Andy Murray takes the lead vocal, a nod to Roger Taylor’s original performance, while Brian Carnes and Stephen Sullivan join him to build thick, layered choruses that showcase the trio’s signature multi vocal sound. The band recorded an extensive number of vocal tracks to capture the fullness and dramatic lift that makes the original song such a standout. Longtime friend and producer Jeff Covert helped guide the arrangement and brought extra clarity and dimension to the performance.

"I'm In Love With My Car" marks the first look at Sonic Chambers, a collection born from a spontaneous decision to record a few favorite covers in the studio. What began as a simple session quickly evolved into a five track EP that celebrates the music that shaped BLAZONER’s sound and spirit. The single highlights their ability to blend heavy rock power with melodic precision while staying true to the emotional core of the source material.

Review

Gordon Heavyfoot is a Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal collective from Canada who perform covers of the legendary and iconic Folk Rock musician Gordon Lightfoot. I’m British and I even know the importance that Gordon Lightfoot had on the entire Canadian Music Scene. His legacy is legendary with a string of classic tracks that were championed by the likes of Bob Dylan and Robbie Robertson over the years.

So now we have a band called Gordon Heavyfoot who are performing a down-tuned and WEEDIAN take on a collection of Gordon Lightfoot’s tracks that sound very different to the Folk Rock originals. The message maybe the same but it’s delivered differently with the violent and sadistic vocals from Friendly Rich which feel like he’s being possessed by SATAN himself. With a sludgy atmosphere appearing within the majority of the tracks that feels more in line with bands such as BONGZILLA, WEEDEATER and DOPETHRONE though there’s a killer sideline of dirty BLUES ROCK which gives this EP a subtle gritty score.

The standout tracks have to be Black Day In July, Oh Linda, Pony Man and The Way I Feel. As these are where the filthiest, heaviest and grooviest sounds of the EP appear with a pulsating rhythm section made up of Vivienne Wilder on Bass and Gavin Maguire on Drums. Nichol Robertson provides the guitars and that’s perhaps where the heaviest parts of the EP appears.

I admire how Gordon Heavyfoot tries something different with these classic tracks but also paying love and respect to the original source material at the same time. The sound can be quite grimy and stripped back but it works superbly well in the end. This EP is superb entertainment which shines a light on one of the greatest musicians to ever come from Canada.

If you like your music LOW & SLOW but with a sludgy NOLA resurgence then Gordon Heavyfoot will surprise you in many ways you don’t fully appreciate until after you listen to this great release.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
