Heavy Metal/Doom/Stoner Metallers DUEL Premiere New Song/Video For CHAOS REIGNS From Upcoming New Album

Heavier and more menacing than their previous efforts, Duel’s fifth album features nothing but rowdy and beer-soaked stompers capturing the foursome's sizzling energy with unequivocal titles like "Chaos Reigns", "Berserker" or "Satan's Invention".

With its renewed rhythm section, Duel blasts harder into heavy metal territory with their explosive shredding and impassioned vocals, even catching the listener off-guard with some feverish stampedes along the way. This is Duel at their fiercest, and hell it's a party!

We're excited to premiere the superb new song CHAOS REIGNS from the upcoming new album BREAKFAST WITH DEATH thanks to our good friends over at Purple Sage PR.

DUEL state this about the song: "This song is an apocalyptic crusher about the war between man and the sea. A heavy metal funeral march for the countless souls lost in the deep."

In Carne Persona is the 4th full length album from famed Doomed Out Heavy Rock Crew DUEL and is perhaps their most dazzling record yet bursting with their no holds barred style of classic heavy metal and modern sounding Doom/Stoner Metal. The band excel in bringing the different eras of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal with DUEL’s usually wild style of Psychedelic grooves layered on top for good measure.

The album does sound more vibrant and heavier compared to their earlier releases but DUEL still maintain their classic trademark sound which you can hear on the storming opening song - Children Of The Fire. A gloomy Stoner Metal track fighting with a top-notch classic Heavy Metal vibe with that fantastic Twin Guitar setup allowing the band playing different styles of riffs for classic heavy metal fans to get on board with even if they’re not a fan of the modern Stoner Rock/Metal backdrop lurking not far away.

Second song - The Veil - sees Duel go a bit more “Doom Metal” with an almost 70’s sounding Doom Rock/Metal attitude with even a “grungy” aspect being heard. Well it did for myself especially during the quieter parts and Tom Frank on solid form with his bombastic vocals. The band pay their huge respects to KISS, Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden on this track which they may have done on previous albums. Add that modern Stoner Metal sound and DUEL just impress yet again with top-notch instrumental work and lyrics to match.

Third song - Anchor - has a more “Boogie Rock” centric approach with the music being quite feel-good and upbeat but still allowing DUEL the opportunity to bring a fast-paced Classic Heavy Rock style to the party. It’s deliciously or devilishly OTT and that’s down to the kick-ass OCCULT vibes held on this song.

DUEL continue playing their hybrid style of NWOBHM anthemic jams across 6 more songs with different scopes being played for the majority of the songs. Standout songs include: Behind The Sound, Bite Back!, Lizard Tongue and Blood On The Claw.

The album is being released on Heavy Psych Sounds who have handled all of DUEL’s releases since their acclaimed 2016 debut release. This is a good thing to see as Heavy Psych Sounds are one of the best underground labels currently out there (along with many others) and it’s cool seeing this partnership working so well.

Anyway, this is DUEL’s chance to shine in the limelight with their best release to date. The band takes many creative risks on this album. It may not seem like that when first listening to the album but give it a few listens and you begin to appreciate the different moods and styles of music DUEL use on this record.

Always backed up by superb production, this album is quite the wild ride with DUEL proving even when hitting upon some hard themes, they still manage to allow the listener to have a great time with this album with powerful riffs that have that classic and modern energy without losing focus or momentum.

In Carne Persona is another superbly entertaining record that ranks as their best release to date.

DUEL Premiere New Song THE VEIL From Forthcoming New Album IN CARNE PERSONA

Band Bio

DUEL is heavy psychedelic stoner doom metal from Austin, Texas. Hugely influenced by the darker sounds of early 70’s Proto-metal. Features two ex-Scorpion Child members. Their sound is menacing and brutally old school. Total purists, their tunes cut right to the bone with heavy, deep groove and blistering tone. Tough and Loud! Hard rock as it should be!

Upcoming Album Details

"In Carne Persona", the upcoming fourth full length album from Texas heavy rockers DUEL, is more of what you have come to expect from the band. Nine new heavy riff soaked tracks from a dungeon in the desert. Written and recorded during plague lockdown, In Carne Persona has the feel of an album that takes its time and full attention to detail. Several upbeat classic guitar rockers in the vain of Thin Lizzy, early UFO, and the beginnings of KISS. A handful of old school NWOBHM anthems channeling early Judas Priest and Iron Maiden , tripped out stoner and proto metal soundscapes. Always pushing the barriers of their sound and offering up something new with the soul of the classic DUEL evil boogie.

You can listen to THE VEIL below with this cool song premiere thanks to the ever awesome folks at Purple Sage PR and Heavy Psych Sounds Records.

In Carne Persona will be available to buy on CD/DD/Vinyl via Heavy Psych Sounds Records from October 1st 2021 and is available to pre-order now.

Review

Greetings all,

Sometimes you come across a truly amazing, inspired record that just sort of creeps up on you. I had heard of the Texas psychedelic occult rock band Duel, but wasn’t familiar with their output. I will be forever grateful that their third record, Valley of Shadows, landed in my lap. The band has an intense hard driving, 70’s classic rock sound with a real heavy dose of stoner vibe and grunge fuelled muscle. Valley of Shadows is a powerful blast of eight epic slabs of rock n roll. The band is tight, the production is top notch and the songs are solid through and through. The band uses the basic two guitar, bass, and drums sound with a vocal style that reminded me at times of Orange Goblin and Mos Generator.

Black Magic Summer opens the record with a massive riff and larger than life chorus. One of my favorite tracks on the album follows, Red Moon Forming, rocks ferociously with the band channelling their inner Thin Lizzy. The band keeps it coming with the psych heavy leanings of Drifting Alone. Their guitars and drums ooze a dark psychedelic feel that blends perfectly with the dark lyrics throughout.

Strike & Disappear slows things down a bit, but only for the first part. The jangly off kilter rhythm and ominous warning to “Take back your heavy trip and be gone” then morphs wildly into a high octane/thrash influenced close. The next track, Broken Mirror, opens with a massive metal inspired riff that brings in a later era Sabbath vibe to this killer track.

Tyrant on the Throne brings the heavy with big riffs and a killer classic rock feel. The ultra catchy I Feel No Pain follows with some killer lyrical storytelling and crunch, grunge inspired feel. The band brings the full on, ZZ Top on steroids/Texas boogie with The Bleeding Heart

The album closer is an absolute monster guitar heavy beast that closes the record on the highest of high notes.

Duel has given unto us an amazing album. Plain and simple, Valley of Shadows delivers the goods. This album will definitely stay in constant rotation, while I go back and dive head-first into the bands back catalogue. Go grab a copy of this album. It will floor you!

Review

Duel return with their second album - Witchbanger - and it's another heavy slice of classic Heavy Metal carnage merged with slabs of powerful Stoner/Doom Metal. The album has a very classic eighties heavy metal feel with the vocals proving that this album will appeal to both the more traditional metal-head and the more modern doom metal fan.

Opening track - Devil - is what you expect from Duel. Fast-paced riffs that never outstay their welcome as the band play a blend of heavy metal sounds merged with modern sounding doom metal theatrics. The twin guitars have a slight Thin Lizzy feel and that is always a good thing. Duel know who they and they make no apologies for making straight-forward Doom/Heavy Metal such as this. It’s good to see the band mixing things up a bit on this track as it acts as the catalyst for things to come.

Second track - Witchbanger - carries on the vintage sound heard on the first track but with a gloomier atmosphere. It's one of the standout tracks on the album with creepy lyrics and pitch-perfect riffs adding a more subtle blues rock vibe at times. I don't want to spend to long reviewing every song on the album as I want this album to be kept as a surprise for both fans of the band and first time listeners.

If you want a good old fashioned Doom/Heavy Metal album where the riffs, vocals and lyrics are equally as important as each other then. Witchbanger is the album for you. I will admit this was the first album I've heard by Duel as I passed their debut album by. My mistake as Duel are a serious hard-rocking unit who have some cool and original ideas of their own especially on the excellent third track - The Snake Queen.

This track shows how inventive Duel can actually be with the band taking a more psychedelic approach and influenced by the legendary sounds of Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus. Whilst still creating their own sound. Other great tracks to check out are: Astro Gypsy, Heart Of The Sun and Tigers and Rainbows.

The production is first rate throughout as Duel have done their homework here. As Witchbanger sounds like it could have been released back in the classic heyday of Doom Metal whilst still offering a modern Stoner based sound. Witchbanger is an exciting wild ride into the realm of Doom/Heavy Metal and I urge you not to pass this album by as Duel have created another quality album.
