Psych/Stoner Metallers HOWLING GIANT announce European Headline Tour 2026

The long-term weather forecast for late spring in Europe just changed to bright blues skies and steaming hot! Brilliant stoner metal outfit HOWLING GIANT will journey from Nashville, Tennessee across the Atlantic to delight European audiences by bringing their acclaimed third full-length "Crucible & Ruin" to the stages of the old continent for the first time.

HOWLING GIANT comment: "We are excited to partner up with Atonal Music Agency to get back to Europe on the heels of our 'Crucible & Ruin' album", drummer Zach Wheeler writes. "It has been about two and a half years since our last European tour and we're quite pleased to perform in a ton of cities where we've never played before! Looking forward to see you on the road!"

"Crucible & Ruin" was released on October 31, 2025. Alongside a host of great reviews, the album has scored remarkable top ten positions in the soundchecks of leading German magazines ROCK HARD (4/49) and VISIONS (7/25)!

The Lowdown

HOWLING GIANT take another huge step on their third full-length "Crucible & Ruin", a collection of sparking ideas, captivating melodies, and heavy riffing close to perfection - quite a feat of on-point songwriting for such a still young band!

This is the band's first album to feature new fourth member Adrian Lee Zambrano. Although the guitarist and synth player arrived somewhat toward the end of the writing process, he was still able to add his mark with cool textures on the record. The extra guitar certainly adds even more punch to HOWLING GIANT's sound, which delivers a slightly more aggressive approach compared with predecessor "Glass Future" (2023).

It also helped the overall feel of "Crucible & Ruin" that this is the band's first album to be entirely recorded in a proper studio setting as opposed to their home studio, "the bunker". HOWLING GIANT even leaned into some raw band live takes to capture the emotion in the room.

Lyrically, "Crucible & Ruin" explores the story of the clash of a novice deity against the forces of primordial chaos as an overarching theme that loosely connects the songs. This is also reflected in the album artwork, which was painted by the mother of guitarist and vocalist Tom Polzine, featuring a unique style of alcohol ink on yupo paper.

HOWLING GIANT hail from Nashville, Tennessee, USA, sidestepping the self-proclaimed Music City's assembly line of modern pop country while taking inspiration from the brilliant songwriters and virtuoso session players that keep the town's musical legacy burning bright. Fertile ground for a preeminent fuzz-psych power trio, now turned quartet, who consciously live in the pocket of that lineage!

Following a trilogy of EPs, "Howling Giant" (2015), "Black Hole Space Wizard: Part 1" (2016), and "Black Hole Space Wizard: Part 2" (2017), HOWLING GIANT struck a chord with critics and fans on their debut full-length "The Space between Worlds" in 2019. "Glass Future" proved a gargantuan leap for the band that now featured Sebastian Baltes, son of legendary ACCEPT bass master Peter Baltes. Released in 2023, "Glass Future" brought their outstanding musicianship and triple vocal attack fully into stride.

HOWLING GIANT storm forward once more in defiant refusal to remain still. Having grown into a four-piece as well as in their prowess as musicians and songwriters, "Crucible & Ruin" is an album at least as big as their name. Don't take our word for it, just give it a spin – or two or three...

Review

It only feels like yesterday when I was reviewing Howling Giant’s last record Glass Future back in October 2023 but fast forward two years later the band have returned with Crucible & Ruin. This time round Howling Giant have delivered a more riff driven and psych driven affair which is perhaps to the addition of new member Adrian Lee Zambrano on Guitars and Synths. Adrian arrived late into the writing process but has added an extra level of tantalizing synths and space rock vibes with his intelligent melodies with the music being quite grounded at the same time.

This feels like a natural evolution from Glass Future with Howling Giant fully down and highly confident with their Psychedelic and Cosmic themes being more melodic. With flashes of Ambient Rock, Post-Rock, Folk and Americana pastures with the band’s winning appetite for catchy and aggressive Doom/Stoner Metal surroundings told through a real storytelling vibe appearing within the lyrics.

Howling Giant know when to unleash a torrent of Sludge Rock sounds against their more warm natured Space Rock movements. The record is constantly changing the Psych Stoner Rock landscape with epic flashes of Progressive based sounds which becomes highly aggressive, vivid, full of life and even quite adventurous on tracks such as Canyons, Hunter’s Mark, Archon and Beholder 1: Downfall. The vocals all provided by Tom, Zach and Sebastian on different stages of the record all have their own main strengths that allows each member to fully command the limelight which is one of the main strengths of the album.

As with previous Howling Giant releases, there’s a great use of various soundbytes and sound effects along the way which can be quite DOOM & GLOOM obsessive at the best of times. This gives Crucible & Ruin an unsettling feeling on the later stages of the record even after a EUPHORIC and UPLIFTING musical number has appeared to perfectly capture the listener’s imagination.

The second half of the album sees Howling Giant proclaim their place as one of Psychedelic Stoner Metal biggest, brightest and best musical outfits to join the likes of KING BUFFALO and ELDER with a great style of cinematic vision that is once again blended against a real grounded energy on the other outstanding tracks on the album such as: Archivist, Scepter and Scythe and the haunting final track of Beholder II: Labyrinth. 

Howling Giant are master storytellers where they tell highly original and beautifully realized stories within each individual track that appears on the album. Crucible & Ruin has it all and once again sees Howling Giant releasing one of the best Psychedelic Stoner Metal records of the year. This is bound to be the record which launches Howling Giant onto bigger and better things. The Stoner Rock community already knew Howling Giant were destined for greatness now it’s time for the mainstream rock community to finally be shown the way.

HOWLING GIANT comment: "While our previous member James was in the band, we wrote 'Hunter's Mark' as one of the first songs with him", drummer and vocalist Zach Wheeler reveals. "We were working in our friend Drew Harakal's studio in Texas and Tom and James came up with that harmonized verse riff. We instantly knew that we had a slamming track on our hands. I tend to play around with my drum setup when writing, so I set up a second ride cymbal on my left hand side for a little extra flavor in the verses. We loved working with Willy from Polar Desert Studios on the 'Aluminum Crown' video a while back. So we brought him back to create a static animation 2D/3D model blended video to accompany this track. Enjoy!"

"Our current single 'Beholder 1: Downfall' is a riff-driven heavy hitter, and in my opinion is one of the heaviest songs on the record", bass player and vocalist Sebastian Baltes states. "It was a pleasure to collaborate with Jerry Roe again on the video, having previously worked with him on the clip for 'Glass Future'. It has been particularly exciting for me to follow the journey of this song from its inception with a simple riff to a full blown song and the making of the video. HOWLING GIANT release new 'Juggernaut' Music Video + US Tour Dates with THE OBSESSED!

HOWLING GIANT dish out a jar full of spicy news today. First helping is a hot sauce-filled video clip for the yummy track 'Juggernaut' taken from the band's current album "Glass Future", released in October 2023 through Magnetic Eye Records (order at http://lnk.spkr.media/glass-future). HOWLING GIANT comment: "The video for Juggernaut focuses on the real star of the Howling Giant universe, our hot sauce", drummer and singer Zach Wheeler writes. "Crafted in the fires of Pittsburgh, PA by our good friend Chad at Riff Zealot, we bring you: Bunker Sauce and Pioneer Pineapple hot sauce! These are the real reasons that got us into music in the first place. What are we if not traveling hot sauce salesmen?"

HOWLING GIANT will embark on an extended US tour as direct support for THE OBSESSED in March and April this spring. The now quartet from Nashville, TN will hit the roads in support of their highly acclaimed album "Glass Future", which is also the official introductory round for new rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist James Sanderson.

HOWLING GIANT welcome their new member: "James started working with us while we were writing 'Masamune', helping break down lyrical barriers and working on song arrangements, and followers of our online shenanigans might recognize him as the Dungeon Master in our streamed D&D campaigns", drummer and vocalist Zach Wheeler reveals. Every song on HOWLING GIANT's sophomore album "Glass Future" tells its own story. Yet even without an overarching concept, all could exist within the same universe. Such crafty lyrical world-building is hardly surprising coming from a group of enthusiastic fantasy and science fiction aficionados. "Glass Future" downright asks to inspire a book or graphic novel, even as it explodes with furious energy and thunderous acrobatics.

Musically, "Glass Future" offers a continuation and evolution of all the elements that made debut album "The Space Between Worlds" (2019) such a success. HOWLING GIANT entice classic metal and hard rock to interact dynamically with spacy, prog-infused passages, desert and psychedelic metal moments, rock organs, catchy hooks, and top everything off with soaring harmonized vocals.

HOWLING GIANT hail from one of the most legendary places for music on earth: Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Despite the city's reputation for assembly-line pop country, the town called Music City is a place of deep history, where brilliant songwriters and virtuoso session players keep dozens of musical legacies burning bright. Fertile ground, then, for a preeminent fuzz-psych power trio who consciously live in the pocket of that lineage.

Following a trilogy of EPs, "Howling Giant" (2015), "Black Hole Space Wizard: Part 1" (2016), and "Black Hole Space Wizard: Part 2" (2017), HOWLING GIANT delivered their debut full-length "The Space between Worlds" in 2019, which to the delight of their rapidly growing following and critics alike more than fulfilled the promise of the early releases.

To bridge the time until their new album, the trio released the "Masamune & Muramasa" split with Sergeant Thunderhoof in 2020 and the "Alteration" EP in 2021, the first releases with bassist Sebastian Baltes, the son of German metal legends ACCEPT's former bass player Peter Baltes, fully integrated into the band as a co-writer.

HOWLING GIANT take a gargantuan leap forward with "Glass Future" that brings their outstanding musicianship and golden-throated triple vocal attack fully into stride. Nothing to do but try to keep up and enjoy the stunning sonic scenery along the way!

Glass Future is perhaps a game-changer for the band. As it's their most intense, heaviest and inventive release to date which is receiving acclaimed reviews all over the place and it's not hard to see why.

Review

Psych Stoner Metallers Howling Giant return with their new album Glass Future that sees the band easily avoid the "sophomore slump" with absolute ease. This album continues the great work they delivered with their acclaimed debut album, split album with Sergeant Thunderhoof and their 2021 EP Alteration. Glass Future has a "conceptual" vision without ever being a Concept Album. As Howling Giant merge Science Fiction, Fantasy and even themes of Horror for the creative narrative of Glass Future.

The music is gloriously uplifting with Howling Giant's sublime flare for Psychedelic Doom and Spaced Out Stoner Metal with a twinge of Blues Rock appearing with some killer Organs, Piano and Synths being added to certain parts of the album. Howling Giant plays a faster style of music with an outlandish aggressive sound when the more gloomier aspects of the album starts to appear. The vocals are always beautifully melodic with a sweet-natured voice even when Howling Giant captures a more Apocalyptic groove to the whole record.

Each song paints a picture of a thousand words moving onto the next exciting chapter within a story that's never really set in stone but it works wonders for Howling Giant. As they can concentrate on playing stunning grooves that would make bands such as ELDER and King Buffalo blush with creative jealousy. The Post-Rock attitude of the music is quite captivating even when playing against the slightly Spaced Out Blues Rock theatrics that gives the album a more realistic vision.

Glass Future has subtle hints of 1970's Prog Rock textures without Howling Giant becoming overblown or overstepping the mark by playing too many different styles of music at the same time. There's riffs galore with each band member getting the same amount of attention to showcase what they can do on the later stages of the album.

Howling Giant adds some thrilling soundbytes throughout the record which can be downright heartbreaking with an emotionally charged insight that left me thinking more about the whole story within Glass Future especially when the gloomiest soundbytes appear. 

Standout tracks on the album for myself are: Siren Song, Aluminium Crown, Hawk In A Hurricane, First Blood Of Melchor, Glass Future, Juggernaut and There's Time Now. These tracks are perhaps the most interesting and innovative ideas laid out on the album that allows Howling Giant to play some truly original Stoner grooves of their own with even moments of punishing Sludgy based Doom Metal appearing.

Glass Future is a cinematic tour-de-force from Howling Giant with stunning production values to match. Howling Giant may have unlocked the gates for their career to move onto the next level within the Doom/Stoner Metal scene that ELDER, King Buffalo and All Them Witches have achieved recently. This is another Album Of The Year Contender from Howling Giant who never disappoint but Glass Future is their most outstanding and impressive release to date. Awesome. End Of.
