Doom Metal Trio WITCHORIOUS to ink a deal with French record label Mrs Red Sound (Mars Red Sky, Red Sun Atacama)

France's rising doom phenomenon WITCHORIOUS step up and sign to heavy psych / doom record label MRS RED SOUND (Mars Red Sky, Witchfinder, Wormsand, Greyborn...) for the release of new material which they are still working on. Fresh sound should arrives quickly, let's stay tuned.

WITCHORIOUS craft hypnotic, possessed stoner rock: devastating rhythm section, aggressive guitars, combined with Antoine and Lucie’s incantations, chanted in a psalmody style or howled like cries of desperate witches. With the successful release of their self-titled debut album, they gained genuine recognition within the heavy doom scene. From Hellfest to Deserfest, their trademark sounding has built up a true and loyal following. The Doom Charts say about them: "here’s another French band who raised the stoner scene to a higher level!"

About their signing to Mrs Red Sound, the band comment:

Hailing from Paris, France, doom metal trio WITCHORIOUS was created in the late 2019 by Lucie Gaget (bass, vocals), Paul Gaget (drums) and Antoine Auclair (guitar, vocals). The foundations are laid: a blend of modern doom and vintage fuzz, Black Sabbath’s blues roots combined with Electric Wizard’s creeper riffs and Amenra’s raw, blood-curdling screaming.

In 2023, the band enter the studio under the direction of Francis Caste at Sainte-Marthe Studio (Hangman’s Chair, Aqme, Rise of the Northstar...) to record their eponymous debut album on February 16th via the Italian label Argonauta Records. The album explores the duality of human nature and the inevitable fate of our planet, with the Witch always at its heart – an indomitable yet oppressed figure, a passionate voice for the wounds of our time.

WITCHORIOUS are playing more and more gigs, appearing as support acts for Bongzilla, Mars Red Sky, Hippie Death Cult and many more. Also performing reference festivals like Westill, Hellfest or DesertFest, both across France and Europe. Their shows are spellbinding, proving that the magic has only just begun.

In 2026, WITCHORIOUS ink a deal with French booking agency 3C and a few months later, with Mrs Red Sound Records. They are currently working on new material.

French Doomsters WITCHORIOUS Unveil Full Album Details and Release New Single

Today brings an exciting revelation as the French Doomsters WITCHORIOUS unveil long-awaited details about their upcoming self-titled album. Set to release on February 16th, 2024, the album will be released by Argonauta Records.

The album took about two years to write, involving numerous arrangements on the tracks. ‘‘The initiative for a track usually comes from a guitar riff and the vocals, then we get together and each of us adds its own touch. We transform the song, the rhythm, its structure, until it sounds ‘Witchorious.’ We wanted to create more modern sound and structures to avoid doing doom that we’ve all heard before,’’ explains the band. 

The lyrics are also an important part of the album, with the band expressing its frustrations and various aspects of self-awareness. The album also deals with mental conflicts and psychological distress, as well as the influence of human beings on their environment and others... ‘‘We were also keen to develop the character of the witch, who for us is a figure that represents oppressed minorities, whatever they may be: the witch frightens, disturbs and revolts, but at the same time she fascinates and survives through the ages. We’ve also had a lot of fun with the clichés of the genre, particularly around everything religious and satanic, because it creates an occult atmosphere that we love,’’ the band continues.

By the time the album was recorded, the songs had truly matured, and the band was fully focused on refining the sound and ambiance. 'Francis helped us emphasize the dark aspect of the compositions, making the whole thing sound truly haunted.'

French Doomsters Witchorious Signs To Argonauta Records

French doom metal band Witchorious has officially joined forces with Argonauta Records to launch their debut full-length album.

The band expresses their excitement, stating:

This is an honor for us to be featured on the catalog of such an iconic label, so influential in the stoner doom scene. Witchorious is a doom metal band from Paris, France. Founded in 2019, the trio is composed of Antoine Auclair (guitar/vocals), and brother and sister Paul (drums) and Lucie (bass/vocals) Gaget. Their first two singles “3 AM” and “Evil Creature” came out of darkness in 2020.

Their music blends bluesy riffs inherited from Black Sabbath, aggressive sounds supported by fuzzy bass lines in the likes of Electric Wizard, and intense atmospheres inspired by bands like Amenra and Mastodon. All this led by adventurous and solid drums, spawning modern chaotic doom metal songs with enraged vocals. Between screams and whispers, Antoine and Lucie’s voices have us travel from incantations to outpouring of despair. Each track will immerse you in the darkness of your mind, where you will keep looking for answers.

Dying to meet their audience, Witchorious play more and more gigs and opened for The Wytches in Paris and Westill Fest in November 2023. Witchorious’s debut album will be released in February 2024 through Italian label Argonauta Records. The album was recorded in Paris at Studio Sainte-Marthe by Francis Caste and contains 10 tracks that address psychic duality, human vice, and the inevitable fate of the world along with hellish fuzzy riffs.
