Review

Greetings all,

This time around I had the righteous pleasure of checking out the new album from Texas own sludge/death/doom metal chameleons Destroyer of Light. Chamber of Horrors is a crushing mix of sludge/death/doom metal that is awe inspiring.

It is impressive how the band can jump from style to style multiple times, not just on the record, but repeatedly within the same song. Not only does the style of the music change, but so do the vocals. I'm not sure if it is multiple vocalists or not, but it is impressive none the less.

The record starts with the heavy intro of Whispers Into the Threshold. This brief experience gives just enough time to prepare yourself for the super aggressive sludge of Into the Smoke to kick you in the teeth. This track pummels you for a solid 5 minutes before breaking down for the doom laden ending.

The Virgin plods in with a slower, doomier riff. This menacing track is a monster. Twilight Procession is a dreamy slower instrumental track that lets you catch your breath before Lux Crusher once again brings the good and heavy back.

Prisoner of Eternity is probably the most Sabbath inspired of the songs on the record. Buried Alive closes the record with a massive thud. The track is heavy as hell and highlights the changes in music and vocals that is the showcase of the band.

If you are a fan of any or all of these styles, you should most definitely track down Destroyer of Light. Chamber of Horrors will melt your face and have you screaming for more. Dig it!
