Review

An Evening With Knives new album – A Sense Of Gravity – is powerful, dynamic and sees the band embrace their Psych, Doom, Sludge, & Stoner Metal roots. The overall sound of the album isn’t wholly original but there is a lot of different variety contained on the album. The band offer a bleak and distorted vision with elements of Post-Metal ferocity being shown within the lyrics and vocals.

The band like to ad different sounds to their music and the electronic beats fit superbly well into the bigger picture of the album that An Evening With Knives effortlessly create.

An Evening With Knives live up to their potential on the opening song – Sacrifice. A bombastic mix of Sludge, Doom, Psych and Stoner metal that will appeal to fans of Baroness, Mastodon and Neurosis with it’s dark cinematic grooves leading the way.

The band keep up the Post-Metal/Doom/Prog-Metal theatrics on the remaining songs held on the album with strong vocals and lyrics adding an extra layer of class and heaviness to proceedings.

The other good thing about this album is how An Evening With Knives stay heavy throughout the album and keep atmosphere flowing with rich heavy grooves that lave little to the imagination especially in the LOUD and HEAVY VOLUME Department.

Standout songs on the album are: Sacrifice, Escape, Levitate, On Your Own and Endless Night.

Sense Of Gravity has a raw and very real sounding production to it. Maybe not as polished as some of their contemporaries currently within the scene. However, there remains something very real to this album that makes everything sound soulful especially on the superb instrumental work that the album holds and represents.

Overall, Sense of Gravity is an album that offers a well thought-out and progressive journey with a high amount of great sounding riffs that could see An Evening With Knives making waves within the Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal community.

Excellent and Highly Recommended
