Serving up a sinister concoction of your favourite heavy rock genres, Scottish fuzz-rockers Earl Of Hell are hell-bent on igniting crowds and melting faces with fiery riffs, stimulating rock rhythms, and energetic stage antics. Deliberately designed to tempt your dark side, their riff-laden jams lurk comfortably alongside ominous lyrics and a notably ghoulish aesthetic. With songs influenced by a collective interest in classic hard rock, post punk, grunge, and the grimy melodrama of vintage horror, their work proudly bears a fun-loving yet macabre underbelly. Indeed, the band remarks–perhaps jokingly, perhaps not–that their music could serve as the soundtrack to a low budget grindhouse movie. Their characteristic brand of horror-infused rock aside, acolytes of Black Sabbath, Kyuss, The Stooges, and Motörhead will undoubtedly find something worth sinking their teeth into.
On their debut EP Get Smoked, out April 29th via Slightly Fuzzed Records, Earl of Hell demonstrates an ability to write both jammed-out fuzz rock improvisations and short and catchy singles. With songs ranging from just over two minutes to just shy of six, the forthcoming Get Smoked is a collection of fiery riff-laden rock numbers. Featuring clean and growled vocals, a hefty low end, hard-hitting drums, and some tastefully spooky church organ, this project also features a string orchestra piece, as well as the performance of an ancient Galiçian spell. As Get Smoked is Earl of Hell’s first proper release, the band strove to present songs that mesh in terms of sound and direction. Although each track is inherently unique from a sonic perspective, a recurring theme of death runs through the EP, and the title and artwork tie the package together with light-hearted spirit.
Despite their initial year's absence of live shows, the band have quickly kindled the flame, recording their first single “Blood Disco” in April 2021 and their second release “Arrhythmia” soon after. With restrictions finally eased, the band has gigged relentlessly across the North of Britain, cutting their teeth as a must see live act and gathering an ever-growing fanbase. With a conflagrant reputation, and various UK support slots lined up in 2022, you’ll be wise to seize the next available opportunity to see Earl Of Hell in their current untamed infancy. Bottom line? Prepare to get smoked.
