Review

Divers Doom is the debut album from Doom/Stoner Metal act Lachlann who brings an aquatic perspective to the standard Stoner Metal sound. Throw in a subtle GRUNGE aspect and Lachlann combines ideas and sounds from multiple areas of 90’s Rock/Metal with subtle distorted melodies and psychedelic beats. The vocals provided by Scotty McRib are clean based with Yotam providing a graveled performance which suits the seedier and murkier vibes of the album.

The instrumental sounds are varied with a fresh FUZZ ROCK aspect that can be quite Sludgy at times with Lachlann drumming up an Oceanic/Aquatic atmosphere where the guitars get the most volume and a pulsating rhythm section drawing into the trippy after effects of certain Space Rock sounds especially on tracks such as Divers Doom, King Hammerhead and Nemo’s Revenge.

The Ambient and Sonic based noises could easily be considered the mysterious sounds of the Deep Blue Sea with Lachlann starting to build their own trippy environments to entice listeners with. The album should appeal to fans of Mastodon, Black Sabbath and Alice In Chains despite the main aquatic storylines that appear. As the music can be quite Progressive with a twinge of SABBATHIAN Doom and 90’s Grunge delivery.

Other standout tracks include Amphibious Ambitions and Demon Tool where the record becomes consumed by a thrilling LOW & SLOW attitude which gives the record quite a determined AMPLIFIER DISTORTED sound with intense vocals and superb lyrics that allows Divers Doom to be quite a vivid and wild ride.

Divers Doom is an absolute blast of heavy Sludge, Doom, Fuzz and Psychedelic Stoner Metal melodies which should allow Lachlann to gain some noticeable attention within the Heavy Rock underground scene.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
