Review

The Space Gargoyle is the new album from Psych Stoner Rockers TURBOBOBCAT which is their first new record in eight years with the album finally seeing the light of day after a set of tribulations and setbacks for the band. The record itself is a good old fashioned mix of Desert Rock, Doom, Psych, Stoner and Grunge with a full on FUZZ ROCK attitude. TURBOBOBCAT finds a great way of blending Hard Rock and Heavy Metal melodies for a sound that’s perhaps quite RETRO at times with a 1990’s aptitude forming from the very start.

There are influences from bands such as KYUSS, Metallica and Soundgarden that can be heard on the album with TURBOBOBCAT firing on all cylinders that appear on the opening tracks of Demon Rider, Radio Monster and King Tyrex (Tyrant Of The World). The record isn’t going to change the world of Stoner Rock/Metal but the band offer a very tight and comprehensive slice of highly energetic music that’s catchy and superbly aggressive at the same time.

The vocals from Federico “Fano” Indelicato are superbly performed with a Classic Hard Rock persona delivered throughout the album. The music itself is quite vibrant and allows TURBOBOBCAT to play to their creative strengths with multiple different styles of Stoner Rock and Hard Rock emerging from the FUZZY Shadows that even transform into small amounts of Cosmic Rock and Sludge Rock attitude.

The final stages of the album becomes more Cosmic/Psych Rock dominant on tracks such as House Of Magick, LaGargolla and The Space Gargoyle which should appeal to fans of Monster Magnet and FU MANCHU the most.

The lyrics could be a bit more expressive but TURBOBOBCAT injects quite an evil atmosphere and creative attitude when the album needs it the most which allows The Space Gargoyle to be quite a great way to spend your time with.

Check this band out if you want to relive the good old days of 1990’s Stoner Rock/Metal but with a slightly warped DOOMED OUT attitude that allows the band to standout from the crowd.
