Review

Under The Raging Sun is the new album from Psych/Classic/Stoner Rockers Pine Ridge and is their first album in four years. The record sees a dramatic shift to the more Psychedelic sound compared to their last album. This is a record of many different moments, melodies and creative strategies with Pine Ridge focusing their energies within a subtle style of Hard Rock, Doom Rock and Blues Rock sensibilities. With a heavier and flashier alternative style which comes into prominence within the few opening tracks of Kilo, Motion Space and Chains Of Bond.

Whilst their last album had a heavy reliance of 1970’s Classic Hard Rock attitude, this time round Pine Ridge move themselves right into the world of 1990’s Grunge in places. There’s a swift course of action which Pine Ridge employs here and the sound is quite diverse with the songs being dramatic, riff-fuelled and full of classic angst to soar up the Psychedelic passages which the band excels the most at.

If you dig the early sounds of Foo Fighters and QOTSA then Under The Raging Sun should leave you with a warm feeling with powerful sounds making this quite an engaging and sometimes sublime “retro” sounding record especially on the later tracks of Bittersweet Emotion, Under The Raging Sun, Winding Way and the standout final track of Fade To Return.

Pine Ridge have delivered the goods with Under The Raging Sun and showcases their style of catchy and aggressive style of sometimes Radio-Friendly based Alt/Stoner Rock/Grunge grooves that leave you wanting to hear more.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
