BLACK LUNG comment on 'Traveler': "This song is about relying on one's anxiety and depression -almost like a super power", vocalist and guitarist David Cavalier writes. "You think, its the things that are going to keep you safe and sharp. In reality, it's the complete opposite. The song also touches on the idea of living in a blameless world. Radical acceptance of people and who they are. Musically, this is one of my favorite tracks. We made it as dynamic as possible and each section feels like its own moment."

Tracklist:

1. Traveler
2. Death & Co.
3. Savior
4. Follow
5. Forever Beyond Me
6. Border Hoarder
7. Scum

When you find yourself adrift at zero gravity with a dreamy smile on your face, you've probably booked a flight into space on BLACK LUNG's latest inter-dimensional transport "Forever Beyond".

The veteran trio from Baltimore, Maryland have fine-tuned the recipe of their musical rocket fuel, distilled from stoner doom, psychedelic rock, and other fiery ingredients. BLACK LUNG's unique concoction drives every track with captivating tunes, melodic riffing, pumping rhythms, and the inimitable vocal cords of Dave Cavalier taking it home. Every single song on "Forever Beyond" hits its mark perfectly.

On their fifth album "Forever Beyond", BLACK LUNG complete the hyper jump initiated on their fourth album "Dark Waves", which was already venturing into new sonic galaxies. Undertones of anger and defiance manifest as many of the songs are artistic reactions to the historic political upheaval in the USA, dealing lyrically with the lure of fascism, blind nationalism, and corporate oligarchy.

BLACK LUNG came into being when two founding members of Baltimore's well-established psych rock band THE FLYING EYES, guitarist and organ player Adam Bufano and drummer Elias Schutzman, teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Dave Cavalier in early 2014. The three set themselves apart from the crowded field of psych doom and heavy blues with a sonic interchange of fuzzed-drenched guitars, deep driving drumbeats, and Cavalier’s raw, blues-tinged vocals.

Their self-titled debut "Black Lung" appeared in 2014 and was not just celebrated locally, with the title "Best New Band" awarded by the Baltimore City Paper, but BLACK LUNG also crossed the Atlantic to embark on their first European tour. This was capped with a performance at the prestigious Rockpalast Crossroads Festival, broadcast on German national television.

BLACK LUNG released their sophomore album "See the Enemy" in 2016, building on the strengths of their debut while at times pushing into garage psych territory. The album paved the way for a headlining European tour, notably appearing at Freak Valley Festival and DesertFest Belgium.

In 2019, BLACK LUNG returned with "Ancients". The third full-length channeled years of experience, touring, and songwriting into a more adventurous course, venturing further from familiar doom and psych rock tropes. During the pandemic years, BLACK LUNG managed to push forward with new guitarist Dave Fullerton, which resulted in fourth album "Dark Waves". It was a milestone in the band's career, as they abandoned some of their pet ideas such as eschewing bass guitar live in favour of guitars through bass amps, along with the black and white aesthetics that had dominated their artwork of their first three full-lengths.

BLACK LUNG are openly anti-Trump and anti-fascist to the core and make no secret of it. They have no intention to become dogmatically boring but rather aim for live performances that are both cathartic and fun.

With "Forever Beyond", BLACK LUNG prove that it is possible to rage against injustice with an utmost joyful defiance!

Exclusive Premiere Of Heavy Stoner Rockers BLACK LUNG New Song/Video For LET IT OUT

Baltimore Heavy Stoner Rockers BLACK LUNG return with a blazing and hard rocking new song LET IT OUT which is taken taken from the 7" digital release LET IT OUT/FALL IN LINE out on September 20th on Heavy Psych Sounds.

You can listen to the track below thanks to this premiere thanks to the ever-cool folks over at Purple Sage PR.

Dave F from the band says about the track

"We tracked Let It Out and Fall in Line while we were in the studio recording our 2022 HPS debut album, Dark Waves, but neither song ended up making the final cut. Fast forward to 2024, we found ourselves in the practice space, joking around about how Let It Out sounded like it belonged in a pickup truck commercial for some reason (probably the harmonica and the twangy guitars in the intro).

Elias sort of tweaked the idea and came up with a quirky concept for a music video to pair with a digital 7” release of the two tracks. The video was truly a DIY project in the sense that we didn't have much of a budget or many filming resources available to us. But we had a couple of willing friends, a truck, a dog, and a guitar that we wanted to burn. So in six chaotic and fun hours, we shot the video, ending the day by extinguishing a burning pile of guitar chunks in the middle of a dead-end street."

Baltimore Stoner Metallers BLACK LUNG announce new album "Dark Waves" on Heavy Psych Sounds; first track and pre-order available!

Baltimore's prolific progressive stoner metal unit BLACK LUNG sign to Heavy Psych Sounds for the release of their ambitious fourth album "Dark Waves" this May 27th. Hear its compelling title track and first single exclusively on The Heavy Chronicles!

The year 2019 marked significant changes for BLACK LUNG. Following the release of their third album "Ancients", guitarist and founding member Adam Bufano amicably departed the band and in November 2019, was replaced by guitarist Dave Fullerton. In the existential dread, loss and uncertainty of the global pandemic, with the backdrop of malignant fascism and cultural enmity in the USA, the band began writing the songs that would comprise their next record. There is no question that "Dark Waves" was conceived in hostile times, and Dave Cavalier's lyrics reflect this hostility. On the title track , the band channels this mood of bitterness through their instruments, as a meditative bridge is slowly transformed into a foreboding storm front centered around Dave Fullerton’s hypnotic guitar melodies.

Despite the apparent darkness, "Dark Waves" is not a cold or desolate sounding record. BLACK LUNG leaps forward from their previous releases with warmer, brighter sound crafting and more audacious songwriting. There are passages with a tangible sense of jubilation and excitement, as they revel in the recording process after more than a year of uncertainty and frustration. For the new release, the band was inspired to leave behind the power trio convention and add bass player Mac Hewitt (ex-The Flying Eyes) into the mix. Produced by J. Robbins and mixed by Kurt Ballou (member of Converge and Grammy-winning producer for High On Fire), it will be released on May 27th through Heavy Psych Sounds.

BLACK LUNG New album "Dark Waves" - Out May 27th on Heavy Psych Sounds

In the winter of 2014, the trio of Adam Bufano, Elias Schutzman (both founding members of The Flying Eyes) and multi-instrumentalist Dave Cavalier emerged from Baltimore as BLACK LUNG. The band quickly set themselves apart in the crowded field of psych-doom and heavy-blues bands by eschewing a bass guitarist, instead of finding the backbone of their sound in the interchange of fuzzed-drenched guitars, deep driving drum beats, and Cavalier’s raw, blues-tinged vocals. Following the release of their self-titled debut in 2014, Black Lung was named "Best New Band" by the Baltimore City Paper and embarked on their first European tour. The tour was capped with a performance at the Rockpalast Crossroads Festival, broadcast on German national television.

In 2016, BLACK LUNG released their sophomore album "See The Enemy" on Noisolution Records. Produced by J. Robbins, guitarist and frontman for post-punk icon Jawbox (and producer for The Sword and Clutch), See The Enemy saw the band building on the strengths of their debut while at times pushing into garage-psych territory in the vein of The Black Keys and Jack White. They followed the release with a headlining European tour, notably appearing at Freak Valley Festival and Desertfest Belgium alongside bands like Graveyard, Dead Meadow and All Them Witches.

After several more years of touring and songwriting, BLACK LUNG returned with "Ancients" in 2019. Produced by Frank Marchand (producer for The Obsessed), it found the band taking even more adventurous departures from doom and psych-rock tropes. The album was followed by another successful release tour in the EU and in late 2019, guitarist Adam Bufano amicably departed the band. Shortly thereafter, guitarist Dave Fullerton (member of the post-rock trio Deaf Scene) joined the fold only to find the world turned upside down by Covid-19. Despite the setbacks and ripples of doubt across the whole of the music industry in 2020 and 2021, BLACK LUNG pushed forward with their new lineup and quietly stayed hard at work on their fourth album.

While in some ways "Dark Waves" offers a departure from prior Black Lung records, the band stays true to their roots in doom and psychedelic music, delivering eight songs packed with the frenzied, fuzzed-out guitar breakdowns, booming drums, and soulful vocals that longtime fans will appreciate. The decision to bring bass guitar prominently into the mix on "Dark Waves" adds new levels of depth and heaviness to their songs, which may be the album’s most notable and exciting development. For them, making it through these dark times meant reflecting on the past while pushing forward without knowing what the future may hold. The result is a record that sees BLACK LUNG rising to new sonic heights. "Dark Waves is set for global release through Heavy Psych Sounds Records May 27th, 2022.
