Review:

Stoner Rock Troublemakers Delco Detention return with their new album Come Get It and it sees the band feature multiple guest artists throughout the album with musicians such as Isaiah Mitchell, Kevin McNamara, Jessi Maue and Mike DeDonato lending their musical and creative talents on various tracks. The album has a more focused sound compared to their releases and the Father & Son duo (Adam and Tyler Pomerantz) are more in tune here. The music is starting to become its own thing with 11 year old Tyler slowly finding his own style of music and holding his own with the multiple guest musicians contained on this album.

Come Get It takes a more Boogie Rock and Blues Rock approach with some Hard Rock/Metal grooves allowing the album to be quite an upbeat and soulful listen. Tyler's love for CLUTCH is never too far away and the record does pay homage to that legendary band. Though, you can hear traces of bands such as Thin Lizzy, ZZ Top and Blue Cheer on the various tracks on the album. Proving that Tyler is improving his musical and creative skills with each subsequent release.

There's a lot more Progressive based flavours on the album with a warped Psychedelic influence heard on tracks such as: Domagoj Sime Told Me Quitters Never Smoke, Pull Down The Mountain and Dying Light, Digital Zombie, Earthless Delco, Slasher and the awesome and rebellious cover of CLUTCH classic I Have The Body Of John Wilkes Booth. These tracks feature the gloomiest vocals and grooves of the album moving further into areas of music such as Doom Metal, NOLA and Southern Rock. 

The first half of the album is perhaps the most entertaining on the album but the whole album is a killer release with richly observed production values that remain to Delco Detention's underground DIY Roots. It's good to see Tyler allowing his good friend George Loving (also 11 years old)  to appear on Bass Guitar for Digital Zombie and puts in a stunning performance to allow the song to have extra weight within the VOLUME department.

I mustn't forget to state how great Adam's drumming performance on the album is. As he's a constant presence with his superb drumming being perhaps the strongest I've heard from him. 

Come Get It is another fantastic and highly entertaining record from Delco Detention. There's not many 11 year old musicians with four acclaimed albums to their name and featuring some of their musical heroes and influences but here we are with another great album from Delco Detention that ranks as their best release to date.

Review

Delco Detention made up of a Father and Son Duo return with their second album. The main focus of this band is Tyler (Guitars/Bass) who is 10 years old and who wrote all the music here himself and once again brought along a few of his famous pals from the Stoner Rock world like on their debut album. What Lies Beneath is a more focused and mature offering with Delco Detention creating more highly addictive modern day Stoner Rock songs that flirt between Heavy Doom, Psych, Grunge and Blues Rock.

With a star-studded line-up of guest musicians from bands such as She Loves Pablo, Kingsnake, The Age Of Truth and Hippie Death Cult, there’s a high amount of different vocals that move the album along at a cracking pace. Sure this is a star-studded lineup but the real star yet again is Tyler whose spiky fantastic grooves show an undeniable talent for writing great music with a youthful edge to them.

Perhaps hugely influenced by CLUTCH yet again on this record, Delco Detention have a bombastic approach to their music especially on songs such as Rock Paper Scissors, A Slow Burn, War Is Mine, Stage Fright and FUMOFO.

Adam on Drums (Tyler’s father) is engaging with an OTT and enthusiastic performance and that’s perhaps where the Hard Rock soul of this album comes from though he’s teaching his son the awesome ways of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal with the many sub-genres that make up this record.

If you enjoyed Delco Detention’s debut album then What Lies Beneath is a more riffier and darker outing for the band whilst offering loads of addictive fun along the way.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review

Delco Detention is the Stoner Rock Duo made up of a father and son. The band have gained attention within the Stoner Rock Community recently thanks to their action-packed and star studded debut album From The Basement. This is a collection of songs written by Tyler Pomerantz and he’s joined by the cream of the crop of the Doom/Stoner Rock underground. Check out the artists who appear on every song. What is even more impressive is that Tyler is only 10 years old and wrote all these tracks himself.

You have appearances from Neil Fallon (Clutch), Jared Collins (Mississippi Bones), Rogers Stevens (Blined Melon), Bob Balch (Fu Manchu) and Isaiah MItchell (Earthless) on this album with Delco Detention debut album being an exciting collection of Blues Rock/Stoner Rock based tracks with the guest appearances not overshadowing the main duo of Adam and Tyler.

The band gained momentum when Neil Fallon of CLUTCH appeared on a song written by Tyler which spread like wildfire last year and the second track where Neil appears on The Joy Of Homeschooling is one of the standout songs on the album. With it’s joyful and rebellious lyrics with a spikey Punk/Stoner Rock flavour with Neil’s awesome vocals elevating a level above the usual Stoner Rock song you here nowadays.

The album is perhaps  too bloated at 15 tracks but at least Delco Detention are aiming big for this release and the journey is always an exciting and adventurous style of Blues Rock and Stoner Rock. There are some moments of Heavy Psych and even Doom based moments along the way.

Standout songs include: Across The Water, Mascat, Dirt School, The Action Is Delco, 422 and Digital Animal. These were the tracks I found the most exciting and perhaps where both Father and Son find their true creative flow and groove on the album.

Not all of the lyrics work but you have to give Tyler credit. Being 10 Years Old this kid has a bright future ahead of him and he does show a sense of maturity way beyond his current age. The album is jam-packed full of great riffs that are constantly heavy and sometimes even challenging.

From The Basement's biggest achievement is showcasing a future star of the Stoner Rock underground. Let's hope Tyler carries on with his Stoner Rock journey and releases more stunning tracks such as held on this album. 

Overall, Delco Detention have graduated “TOP OF THE STONER ROCK CLASS” with From The Basement with an album rich in musical variety and one featuring your favourite Stoner Rock musicians is always an added bonus.
