Review

ONIRO is the new album from Italian Space/Stoner Rockers Mars Era. This is their first album in 4 years when they released their acclaimed debut album. ONIRO is a different beast to DHARMANAUT. As the band plays a more Progressive and Expansive style of Prog Rock being the dominant force here. The band employ certain Psych Rock and Stoner Rock elements but this has seen the band evolve into a more Progressive force.

The album is still a worthwhile and exciting trip into the realms of Psychedelic Spaced Out Rock. Just be prepared for something different and perhaps outlandish in cases. The album is wildly influenced by bands such as TOOL and DEFTONES but still having a cool Stoner Rock edge. The 6 songs here are excellent and deserve multiple listens to fully understand it all.

Standout songs include - OBE, Into The Pyramid, Brighter Than The Sun and Cyclone.

Mars Era excel on this album and have released another stunning record to impress the Stoner Rock/Metal community with.

MARS ERA Announces New Album "Oniro" And Premieres Music Video!

MARS ERA Announces New Album "Oniro" And Premieres Music Video!

Imagine the great Seattle’s grunge era meeting the alternative metal scene of the 2000’s, place them straight into the Californian desert, and you’ll get the sound and vision of Italy’s stoner rock overloads MARS ERA. Formed in 2014 in Florence, the band burst into the heavy rock scene with their critically acclaimed debut Dharmanaut. Now, MARS ERA has announced the release of their sophomore full-length titled Oniro, which will be out on February 19, 2021, via Argonauta Records!

Close before the world went on lockdown, MARS ERA started to work on their forthcoming album, which was recorded and mixed by Marco Leggio, and was mastered at the GreenFog Studio in Genoa. While the four-piece collective continues to combine both heavy and psychedelic sounds from various influences, with Oniro they step forward to create their very own way to express music. This is MARS ERA in a new chapter; full of words, music and emotions. Give ear, as the band just released a first single and video for “Brighter Than The Sun

“We are stoked to present our new album: Oniro!” MARS ERA comments.

“This first single "Brighter Than The Sun" is our favorite nightmare: it’s the glue that melts all the songs, bounded in a unique vision.

We’ve been working on Oniro over three long years, with countless rehearsal sessions, discussions on each others, images and shared ideas. Oniro has become our new journey. An experience that led us to search for the hidden meaning of each vision we had.

The album is a warning to an internal awakening: it’s the story of an ordinary man who finds himself facing his innermost fears which, changing through music, become real and tangible dreams. Only by facing these difficulties, our character will overcome the obstacles that arise on his long and imaginary journey. An oniric travel that leads to a final awakening. Dream, imagine and choose. Close your eyes, “this is your last breath to wake up."

Review

It's time for another quality release from Argonauta Records. This time they’ve signed a fairly new Italian Psychedelic Stoner/Grunge Band called Mars Era. Mars Era debut album Dharmanaut is a hard-hitting combination of Alt Rock, Grunge, Psych and Stoner Rock with trippy Space Rock vibes keeping everything together.

Opening track – Enemy Was A Friend Of Mine – takes a few moments for the heavy sound to appear though it’s still a very good song to open the album with. Grungy Spaced Out riffs with a side of heavy psychedelic noises show that Mars Era is in highly confident form. The vocals are primarily in the Alt Rock arena but with a dark soulful blues based vibe.

Second track – Emprisoned – has a dark lyrical theme held within the song with the Grunge/Stoner sounds offering a clearer and heavier experience than the opening track. Mars Era offers a doomier sound with the other elements being played in the background. You can hear shades of Soundgarden and Black Sabbath in this song and certain parts of the album at times.

Third track – The Leap – is a nine minute plus epic with Mars Era finally starting to make cool original sounds of their own. The song opens with heavy psychedelic guitar riffs that start very slowly before the lead vocalist puts in another impressive vocal performance. The song is very progressive in parts as it can be broken down into individual chapters as the band move from one genre to the next. Space, Grunge, Stoner and Psych Rock all expertly played.

The first three songs is a good indication on what to fully expect with the remaining four songs on the album. Heavy Psychedelic riffs with the band showing a keen ear for sonic experimentation on the final two songs – Lincancabur and Desolate Wasteland. Two more epic songs where Mars Era proves once again they have a talent for writing progressive catchy riffs and intriguing lyrics to match.

The final track – Desolate Wasteland – is the standout track as it’s a majestic ride that opens with quietly played swirling psychedelic noises before the heavy riffs appear. The vocals has shades of John Garcia matched against Tool-esque riffs.

Dharmanaut feels like a concept album of sorts. The album has a beginning, middle and end with each part offering a different sound that allows Mars Era to make a lasting impression. The album is superbly produced which is surprising since Argonauta Records are releasing this album. Argonauta Records always release well-produced albums and they always sound top-notch. Still overall credit has to goto Mars Era for creating an intriguing and well executed album that flows naturally from start to finish.

If you’re in the mood for a Progressive Space/Grunge/Stoner Rock album packed full of heavy noises then Dharmanaut is the album for you. Mars Era has delivered a well-crafted and brilliantly entertaining album.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
