Experience the energy. Feel the frequencies. Be part of the Lay Bare Family.

LO-PAN drop first single 'The Good Fight' taken from the forthcoming new album "Get Well Soon"

LO-PAN drop first single 'The Good Fight' taken from the forthcoming new album "Get Well Soon"

LO-PAN release the first advance single 'The Good Fight' taken from the American hard rockers' new full length "Get Well Soon". The new album from the long-running Columbus, Ohio foursome has been scheduled to hit the stores on April 4, 2025 via Magnetic Eye Records.

Listen to "The Good Fight" below:

"We rewrote 'The Good Fight' about 10 times over four years before recording the tracks and my drums were captured on the second take", drummer Jesse Bartz explains to which guitarist Chris Thompson adds: "This is one of my favorite songs to play off the new album as it has a Lo-Panthem type quality to it, which is a phrase that Andrew Schneider coined during mixing”. Vocalist Jeff Martin has the final word: "Lyrically, the theme of 'Get Well Soon' is more of a 'stuff is very much broken beyond repair now' sort of message."

Tracklist

1. The Good Fight
2. Northern Eyes
3. Wormwood
4. Ozymandias
5. Rogue Wave
6. Harpers Ferry
7. Stay with the Boat
8. God’s Favorite Victim
9. Six Bells

Up for a catchy tune? LO-PAN deliver them in droves! The four-piece from Columbus, Ohio in the United States have long been known for their powerful blend of driving rhythms, melodic vocals, and immersive sonic landscapes, and with "Get Well Soon", they add captivating songwriting to the list.

Since 2005, LO-PAN have laboured hard to earn a reputation as one of the most consistent and compelling acts in the modern heavy scene with their blue-collar ethic and singular artistic vision, which is strongly felt on "Get Well Soon".

On this album, LO-PAN further define their brand of American Hard Rock, a wicked stylistic mix of deep fried heaviness sprinkled with metal and grunge, all fused through captivating songwriting into an irresistible fifth album.

LO-PAN came together in the vibrant underground Columbus scene out of a shared love of vintage rock, stoner metal, and modern heaviness. The four musicians were united by a passion for pushing boundaries. It was no accident that they took their name from the sorcerous villain in the cult film "Big Trouble in Little China" as the band set out to blend cinematic drama with larger-than-life energy.

From their earliest days, LO-PAN distinguished themselves with an intense live presence and a sound that combined classic rock grit with the crushing weight of stoner and doom influences. LO-PAN's 2009 debut album "Sasquanaut" was an immediate breakout, earning praise for its infectious hooks and monumental grooves, and established the band as a force to be reckoned with in the heavy underground.

The sophomore full-length "Salvador" (2011) solidified their reputation, showcasing a more refined sound and greater musical maturity. 2014's "Colossus" represented a significant leap forward, pushing into new territories with tighter arrangements and more expansive production by Andrew Schneider (PELICAN, UNSANE et al.).

In 2019, LO-PAN released "Subtle", which marked another evolution of their sound. The band dared to take risks by exploring new emotional depths through a more introspective and atmospheric approach, which paid off with critics and fans alike.

LO-PAN have toured and shared stages with such heavyweights as HIGH ON FIRE, TORCHE, and RED FANG, among many others, and have taken their high-energy performances to audiences across the United States and Europe.

"Get Well Soon" heralds another great leap forward for LO-PAN. Heavy, cool, catchy, and with a marked emotional resonance developed through experience and maturity, "Get Well Soon" will take the Americans to new places around the globe.

South African Fuzz Juggernaut RUFF MAJIK Announces New Studio Album "Moth Eater" On Sound Of Liberation Records

[source: Sound Of Liberation Records]

South African Fuzz Juggernaut RUFF MAJIK Announces New Studio Album "Moth Eater" On Sound Of Liberation Records; First Single (Feat. Reegan du Buisson of Facing The Gallows) Out Now!

Following their latest, much acclaimed 2023-album ‘Elektrik Ram’, South Africa’s megalithic Ruff Majik has announced the release of a new studio offering! Moth Eater will be released on September 27, 2024 via SOL Records, the label imprint run by Sound Of Liberation (Desertfest Berlin, Keep It Low, Up In Smoke etc. and booking agency for numerous, high-class artists of the stoner, psych, rock and doom metal / sludge scene). Visit the SOL Records Shop here: https://shop.soundofliberation.com

A first album single taken off Ruff Majik's upcoming banger, "What A Time To Be A Knife" feat. Reegan du Buisson of Facing The Gallows, is now streaming on all digital providers at: https://orcd.co/xqy6d0b

From a lyrical perspective, the first single release deals with the anger and frustration towards the status quo. It can be read as an allegory of governmental resistance and frustration with peers accepting the status quo, however, according to Ruff Majik it is more specifically aimed at the con-men and grifters in the local South African scene. As the band tells us:

Right out the gate, we need to get some stuff off our chest. So, this song goes out to our local music industry promoters/suits/businessmen/naysayers that think they rule the world and shit gold. This is us drawing the line in the sand and throwing down the gauntlet - run up, we’re ready.

The scene is amazing, the bands are trying their best to make something good happen, and these greedy goblins are actively trying to destroy what we’re building.

So you think you’re the music biz messiah? Get f#@cked!”

youtube thumb

Kicking the vibe back to a sepia-toned era where bell-bottoms and fuzzed-out bass were de rigueur, the ‘Majik lads take a well-known template and drench it with their unique attitude and stoner-esque sensibilities.

The horned infant known as Ruff Majik emerged from the primordial ooze when the band moved from the historical town of Lydenburg in 2012 to the capital city of Pretoria, where they honed their craft for a few years before finally entering the studio to record for the first time. In 2024 and while they are currently gearing up for the September-release of their Moth Eater on Sound Of Liberation RecordsRuff Majik released a number of EP’s and three lauded albums to date, not to mention the megaton of local and international touring.

All the requisite ‘Majik trope boxes are ticked in thick, bold permanent marker - sludgy, distorted riffs, vast landscapes of sonic abandon, dark imagery that perfectly complements the delicious cacophony, and tasty sound bites that add infinite swathes of colour. This is what is expected from the band, their signature sound and one that never fails.

Watch out for further album details and pre-order options to follow in the weeks ahead, and make sure to catch Ruff Majik live during a busy touring schedule in 2024, with many more dates to be announced soon!

UFOMAMMUT - Hidden (Album Review)

Release Date: May 17th 2024. Record Label: Neurot Recordings / Supernatural Cat Records. Formats: CD/DD/Vinyl

Hidden: Tracklisting

1.Crookhead

5.Leeched

6.Soulost

Poia – Guitars

Urlo – Bass, Vocals, Fxs and Synths

Levre – Drums

Review

Cosmic Doom Overlords UFOMAMMUT return with their tenth album Hidden which sees the band return to the heavier and harsher sounds heard from their 2010 classic album EVE. This album has a more sinister and psychedelic energy coming from the depths of the Psychedelic Stoner groove which is also quite melodic, downtuned and distorted at the same time.

Opening track Crookhead was first released last October within the EP of the same name. The track is still fresh and original since its initial release. The multi-layered and Progressive Doom sounds have moments of Drone, Post-Metal and Space Rock energy with Urlo’s dense vocals leading the creative charge.

The album has more Sonic Experimentation with freaky noises and aggressive FX that allows UFOMAMMUT to become quite obsessive with their FUZZED UP atmospherics compared to their last few albums. Hidden has a world-building or perhaps WORLD DESTROYING aspect which brilliantly comes into focus on the tracks Kismet, and Spidher. UFOMAMMUT can be downright mean and nasty with some of their music and it’s perhaps the bleakest we’ve heard from the band over their legendary twenty five year career.

There’s a lot of instrumental overlap with each member providing a backdrop of monolithic grooves with subtle flashes of Sludge/Stoner Metal imagery being quite trippy within the heaviest parts of the album. Amplifier Heaviness is one of the major tools that UFOMAMMUT have at their disposal to keep everything wholly original with a fresh perspective coming into play within the more subdued and quieter parts of the album.

The second half of the album sees UFOMAMMUT pull no punches with their aggressive synths and fuzzed up TEMPO of Progressive instrumental melodies. Urlo’s vocals become slightly crazed and shamanic in places but the overall journey is one of psychedelic destruction with the music becoming more SONIC induced that harks back to some of their earlier sounds whilst giving their music a modern makeover on tracks such as: Mausoleum, Leeched and Soulost.

Hidden is perhaps UFOMAMMUT’s best record since the departure of original drummer Vita and Levre puts in a commanding performance throughout. UFOMAMMUT have earned their reputation as one of the true greats and HEAVYWEIGHTS of the European Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal scene. Hidden just solidifies that fact, and allows this to become one of the standout albums to own this year.

Here’s to the next 25 years of this amazing band…

Italian Psychedelic Sludge/Doom Metal Trio UFOMAMMUT Shares “Kismet” Visualizer From Upcoming New Album - Hidden

Italian Psychedelic Sludge/Doom Metal Trio UFOMAMMUT Shares “Kismet” Visualizer From Upcoming New Album, Hidden,Due Out On May 17th Via Neurot Recordings/Supernatural Cat!

Kismet” is the sprawling new single from Italian psychedelic doom/sludge metal trio UFOMAMMUT, celebrating their 25th Anniversary in 2024. With an animated video that just exclusively premiered at Cvlt Nation, the song is the latest preview of the band’s tenth LP, Hidden, nearing May release on Neurot Recordings/Supernatural Cat Records.

Hidden marks a shift in UFOMAMMUT‘s musical composition, aiming for a more intense and heavy sound, as they have displayed over the prior two releases. The title, Hidden, reflects the concept of the presence of everything in our existence and the ability to bring to light what lies within us. With Hidden, the band delves into a sonic journey that traverses vast expanses of space and time. From the crushing heaviness to the hauntingly melodies, from the textured compositions to the otherworldly atmospheres, Hidden testifies to the never-ending evolution of UFOMAMMUT and their mastery of creating immersive sonic experiences: a fitting celebration of their 25 years of sonic exploration and experimentation.

Like any good psychedelic trip, the music of UFOMAMMUT has always been inextricably intertwined with visual art, and as always, the artwork, videos, and all visuals/graphics for Hidden were created by Malleus Rock Art Lab, the rock/music graphic design collective of which Poia and Urlo are part of with Lu. Hidden was recorded at Flat Scenario Studio in Piemonte, Italy, with Lorenzo Stecconi handling the mixing and mastering, and Luca Grossi overseeing vocal tracking.

The band reveals, “‘Kismet’ represents the divine destiny predetermined by God for us, it embodies the concept of fate and what lies ahead for us. ‘Kismet’ is one of the most profound tracks on the album, delving into the journey of life itself. Like cascading waterfalls reaching for the sky, or droplets ascending towards the sun only to dissipate into the vast universe, our existence moves steadily through time, emanating light and energy that permeates our surroundings. This song encapsulates the essence of the album, distinct from Fenice, which is characterized by monumental riffs yet infused with ethereal atmospheres that redefine our yearning for psychedelia.”

Cvlt Nation writes, “Their riffs are so trippy that listening to this song feels like a sonic shroom trip taking root inside of my brain. UFOMAMMUT are so much more than a doom band, they are a creative unit focused on manifesting mind-altering soundscapes that transcend sound itself.”

Watch UFOMAMMUT’s Malleus-animated “Kismet” video now streaming here:

Hidden will be released on CD, LP, and digital on May 17th, in North America through Neurosis’ Neurot Recordings, the vinyl pressed on a Silver Nugget variant in a gatefold jacket. In Europe, the band’s Supernatural Cat Records will release it, a standard version on 180-gram Marbled Purple And Black variant, and a limited version of 500 copies on 180-gram Crystal Clear variant crafted by hand using photosensitive colors that are activated by sunlight, bringing the concept of the album to life, with multiple bundles and options.

Find US preorders/presaves at Neurot Recordings HERE
and EU preorders at Supernatural Cat HERE

UFOMAMMUT will be touring regularly in support of Hidden, with a long list of tour dates already announced across Europe and the UK through all of May and into June, with much more being plotted. See the current 25 Years Anniversary Tour listings at the band’s website HERE and stand by for updates.

Rising from the ashes of their prior band Judy Corda, UFOMAMMUT formed in the late 1990s by Poia and Urlo (bass, vocals, effects, synths), together with Vita (drums). With Levre taking over on drums in 2021, the band has undergone a rebirth, culminating in the release of the 2022-released Fenice LP, and on Halloween 2023, the Crookhead EP.

Over the course of two-and-a-half decades, UFOMAMMUT has developed a unique sound that combines heavy, dynamic riff worship with a deep understanding of psychedelic tradition in music, which has resulted in a cosmic, futuristic, and technicolor sound that fully immerses listeners. They’ve produced a wide spectrum of albums, EPs, live albums, a box set, compilation tracks, and covers – including a track on the Superunknown Redux Soundgarden tribute album.

Exclusive Premiere Of Psych Stoner Rockers ANUSEYE New Song/Video ODESSA From Upcoming New Album RIGHT PLACE WRONG TIME

After three highly appreciated records, ANUSEYE are back with Right Place Wrong Time. This concept album is the first of two chapters and deals with space/ time perception. It’s a journey, a little bit real and a little bit dreamlike, to explore

places relevant to the inner consciousness of the band members because they evoke emotions, thoughts, and inspirations. Departures and arrivals are on a loop: each song is named after a city, each city represents a trip, and each trip is a song. The nine tracks feature the artistic maturity of these Heavy Psych veterans, blended with fresh sounds and beautiful arrangements in Psych/Kraut sauce. The digital version is expanded with three bonus tracks to keep on tripping.

Thanks to the kind folks over at All Noir PR, we're premiering the New Video/Visualiser for the new song ODESSA from the upcoming new album Right Place Wrong Time due out on DD/Vinyl via Go Down Records from October 20th 2023.

ABOUT THE BAND

Anuseye is a band formed in 2010 from the ashes of That’s All Folks! That early group pioneered the Stoner Rock genre in the 90s Italian music scene and shared stages and releases with iconic names such as Nebula, Ufomammut, Firebird, and Roadsaw. Anuseye’s mastermind is musician Claudio Colaianni, also known to Psych fans for Colt.38 as his side project releasing good value gems since 2001. In particular, the self-titled album, reissued by Nasoni Records in 2008, received praise from British psy chedelic musicians such as Bari Watts, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond), Julian Cope, and Adrian Shaw.

Anuseye’s sound moves away from the Heavy Rock of previous bands to embody 60s Psych Rock with higher technical and artistic awareness. They performed on stage with The Fuzztones, Vibravoid, The Warlocks, Yawning Man, Hypnosis, and more. Their self-titled debut album was produced by UK-based John Wills (Loop, Hair & Skin Trading Company) and released by Interbang Records in 2011. The cover features a controversial artwork by artist Massimo Gurnari, who created an ultra-limited version of 30 hand-painted copies.

In 2014, the band signed with the indie label Vincebus Eruptum Recordings and relea sed Essay On A Drunken Cloud on LP and CD bundled with Vincebus Eruptum fanzine #18. In 2019, the 12” vinyl 3:33 333 was released for the same label, and the music press reviewed it as one of the year’s best records. The cover features artwork by Boris Pramatarov, a Bulgarian artist with whom the band forges a lasting collaboration. The connection between music and art is very dear to Anuseye.

After several changes, the lineup features leader Colaianni on guitar and vocals, multi-instrumentalist Stefano Pomponio (ex Madre De Dios) on guitar, keys, piano, and backing vocals, Giovanni D’Elia (ex Karma In Auge) on bass, and Cosimo Armenio (ex Apulian Blues Foundation) on drums and percussion.

In 2023, Anuseye signed with Go Down Records to release their fourth record Right Place Wrong Time. A concept album about traveling, halfway between the real and the dreamlike, through the places that have shaped the musicians’ inner consciousness. The cover artwork is again by Pramatarov, and the LP and digital release is due in Fall 2023.

Review:

Doom/Stoner Metallers Dopelord return with their new album Songs For Satan and their first for record label Blues Funeral Recordings who are releasing the album. This is Dopelord returning to the Occult fuelled energy of their early albums such as Magick Rites and “Black Arts, Riff Worship & Weed Cult” with a more ferocious and warped FUZZ Heavy sound. The album is deliciously flamboyant and outrageous with Dopelord’s fascination with the Occult and Devilish themes of the Doom/Stoner Metal scene.

Taking cues from a retrospective Electric Wizard creative angle throughout the album with Dopelord’s legendary BONGED OUT HEAVY sound allowing the band to play catchy and aggressive freakish jams which comes superbly well within multiple parts of the album. Dopelord never cease to amaze by playing a classic sounding of 70’s Hard Rock and extended Freakout Jams on this album alone which has become a prominent part of their sound of their last couple albums.

Songs For Satan allows Dopelord to further expand their gloomy Psych Rock melodies and complex sounding grooves that’s full of reckless rebellion on tracks such as Night Of The Witch, The Chosen One and One Billion Skulls. The guitar tone is dirty, seedy and full of scuzzy drugged out heaviness where the FUZZ is quite aggressive but full of daring Progressive wonder. The AMPLIFIED REVERB tone of the album allows the music to be constantly paying homage to the legendary bands of the scene but also allowing Dopelord to play their own original style of Doom/Stoner Metal.

The songwriting is intense with each song showing a different side into Dopelord’s creative psyche with the atmosphere being all knowing and all consuming especially within the heavier sludgier bombastic moments which comes mostly through Piotr Ochociński sublime drumming.

Dopelord offers  a more threatening presence on the later tracks such as Evil Spell, Worms and Return To The Night Of The Witch. As the music even remaining downright catchy places is full of spooky intense sounds and classic Occult lyrics that allows the album to become the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming Halloween and Winter Solstice season. With a neverending wicked style of downtuned grooves and extended riffs, Dopelord have released an album that matches the legendary spirit of the classic 1970’s Doom Metal scene with the progressive and FUZZED out heaviness of today’s Stoner Metal scene.

Songs For Satan is a brilliantly outlandish release that allows Dopelord further their own reputation as one of the most visionary Occult based WEEDIAN bands within the global Doom/Stoner Metal scene. This album will be talked about for years to come. That’s how great this album is.

Words by Steve Howe

The Lowdown

Despite Nashville’s reputation for assembly-line pop country, the town called Music City is a place of deep history, where brilliant songwriters and virtuoso session players keep dozens of musical legacies burning bright. Nashville’s preeminent fuzz-psych power trio HOWLING GIANT live in the pocket of that lineage.

HOWLING GIANT formed nearly ten years ago with the union of guitarist and singer Tom Polzine, drummer and vocalist Zach Wheeler, and bassist and vocalist Roger Marks. From day one, the trio locked into a musical groove of thunderous metal, proggy acrobatics, psychedelic flourishes and soaring melodic vocals, telling stories of fantasy and adventure with such sheer force of will that they seemed capable of opening a window to other dimensions.

Their early years saw a flurry of recorded activity, with an acclaimed self-titled EP in 2015 and an audacious concept piece split across two EPs, "Black Hole Space Wizard Part 1", released in 2016 and a year later "Black Hole Space Wizard Part 2".

Soon, HOWLING GIANT set out to bring their arena-sized energy to the people with the hunger of true road dogs. Throughout 2017 and 2018, they crisscrossed the United States, pouring out heart and soul (and sweat) while flying the flag of emotive, intricate heavy rock and roll.  This tireless energy eventually brought them to such prominent festival stages as Psycho Las Vegas in 2018 and both SXSW and Psycho Smokeout in 2019. Around this time, Marks left the band and Howling Giant achieved its current form with the addition of bass player and vocalist Sebastian Baltes.

In early 2019, HOWLING GIANT released their debut full-length "The Space Between Worlds", an album which saw the band channel the bristling electricity of their live sound and push further into both cosmic drift and punishing heaviness.

With activities locked down globally, HOWLING GIANT focused on recording their sophomore full-length, which is scheduled for release in autumn 2023. Ahead of this, though, the band embraced the opportunity to road-test the new tunes and share them with heavy rock fans everywhere as direct support on a far-reaching North American tour with ELDER and labelmates RUBY THE HATCHET, along with confirming a slot on the illustrious Desertfest in Belgium later in the year. As an enticing taste of things to come, HOWLING GIANT release the digital single 'Sunken City' from the upcoming album before hitting the road.

THESE BEASTS comment: "One day at practice, Chris had some nervous fingers and this song popped out", bass player and singer Todd Fabian writes on behalf of the trio. "The title makes sense as the song is pretty manic. It also happens to be the name of one of Chris' previous bands, which meant we had to make sure that they were cool with us using the name for a song title. Thankfully, they were. The track also contains the best line, and most important question, on the whole record: "Who is drouth?"

Tracklist:
1. Code Name
2. Cocaine Footprints
3. Nervous Fingers
4. Pecking Order
5. Blind Eyes
6. Southpaw
7. $10 and Zero Effort
8. Trap Door

"Friends will be friends", legendary QUEEN frontman Freddy Mercury sang and added: "When you're in need of love they give you care and attention" and "When you're through with life and all hope is lost". These words ring true for Chicago's THESE BEASTS.

The sludgy noise rock trio found themselves in a challenging situation while creating their debut album, "Cares, Wills, Wants." The lockdowns, which transformed the city and the band's rehearsal space into something akin to a ghost town, coupled with the loss of friends and family, resulted in a flood of powerful and dark emotions that inevitably found their way into the lyrics and music of "Cares, Wills, Wants".

With "Cares, Wills, Wants", THESE BEASTS deliver the massive debut full-length that their steadily growing following has awaited in the wake of the band's promising first two EPs "Salvor" (2016) and "These Beasts" (2019). Founded by three friends in Chicago, the type of somewhat goofy guys that you might find in any bar or bowling alley across the windy town, it was their mutual love for hard and loud guitar music, and inspiration from such acts as local heroes THE JESUS LIZARD that set them apart from others and bound them firmly together.

Not content with just listening to music and having played in other formations before, singer and guitarist Chris Roo together with drummer Keith Anderson had already joined forces to create music when bass player and vocalist Todd Fabian moved to Chicago. He soon turned out to be the missing link on both a personal and musical level, and out of this friendship, THESE BEASTS came into being in 2015.

The trio started playing locally and quickly gained a reputation as a fierce live act that led them across the United States and earned them a spot at the prestigious Day of Doom Fest in New York. With  "Cares, Wills, Wants", THESE BEASTS aim to continue their conquest of the Americas, but also have every intention to jump across the pond.

"Cares, Wills, Wants" is an emotional rollercoaster ride in the clever disguise of a sludgy noise rock album. THESE BEASTS invite all their friends, old and new, to join their cathartic experience and begin healing through hard music with a brain. Let this record roar!
