The Godfathers of Swedish Stoner Metal DOZER have had quite the resurgence over the last few years with the band releasing their critically acclaimed 2023 album Drifting In The Endless Void which has been adored by fans and critics alike. DOZER are celebrating their thirtieth anniversary as a band and to mark this occasion their releasing this epic record Rewind to Return: Rarities, Singles and B-Sides.
This is a collection of tracks especially selected by the band which features non-album based tracks and it’s a great mix of songs that I’ve not heard in a very long time plus there are songs that I haven’t heard at all. The album has quite a classic and modern sounding approach which shows you why DOZER have cemented their legacy and reputation to be classed as one of the true greats of the modern Stoner Rock/Metal scene.
Sometimes this record feels like a new studio album from DOZER with the excellent remastered work carried out by Karl Daniel Lidén. There’s not a bad track held on the record which showcases what great songwriters DOZER have been throughout their celebrated career. The songs are all delivered with Desert/Stoner Rock grit that allows DOZER to play a powerful style of groundbreaking FUZZY grooves and Desert Rock atmospherics.
Everything flows superbly well and quite naturally with DOZER showing today’s upcoming bands on how to construct a first rate track with a full on rock and roll narrative, sludgy grooves, tight melodies and superb vocals which shine throughout on tracks such as: Tanglefoot, Hail The Dude, Southern Star, The Electrocter, Universe 75, Mammoth Mountain, Star By Star and 2 Ton Butterfly.
Rewind to Return: Rarities, Singles and B-Sides is an essential record to have in your DOZER collection with it’s non-stop style of pulsating grooves and classic hooks which you’ll be playing DAYS ON END. Every track is an absolute banger DOZER playing a non-stop and thrilling style of STONER METAL momentum which easily allows this to be one of the best records to own this year even if the songs aren’t entirely new. However, it’s the whole musical journey that the band takes you upon and leaves you THANKING THE HEAVY METAL GODS that bands such as DOZER exist within the world right now.
This maybe classed as a B-Sides / Rarities album, however this is an ALBUM OF THE YEAR contender right here.
