US Stoner Doom Metallers HASHTRONAUT announce East Coast spring tour; debut album available now on Blues Funeral Recordings

Denver, Colorado's stoner doom specialists HASHTRONAUT are set to spread their skull-crushing, weed-laden gospel with an extensive East Coast tour this spring. Their debut album "No Return" is available now on Blues Funeral Recordings.

“If you've been looking for something that sits comfortably between an angrier Red Fang and early Monolord, this is absolutely the band for you.” - Metal Injection

“Perhaps the most perfect weedian debut album of the year.” - Outlaws of the Sun

"The next big thing in stoner metal.” - Clean and Sober Stoner

Red-eyed at the crossroads of thunderous stoner sludge and towering doom, HASHTRONAUT daze and inebriate the riff-obsessed masses on this planet and beyond. Released in 2024 on Blues Funeral Recordings, their acclaimed debut album "No Return" is a resiny slab in the grand tradition of weed-fiend odysseys from Sleep to Bongzilla, an intoxicating and pummeling trip with a lungful of potent hook-doom and strikingly anthemic vocals that will enthrall fans of Monolord, Windhand or Dopelord. Stream their debut album "No Return" at this location and order it via Blues Funeral Recordings!

About the upcoming US tour, the band says: "We couldn’t be more excited to get back out on the road again this spring, and even more excited to visit a whole bunch of new cities along the way!! It’s been a long, cold winter in our bunker somewhere outside of Denver, but we emerge with new amps, new riffs, and a new trick or two up our sleeve! See you out there!"

HASHTRONAUT launched into orbit from their Denver-based Mission Control in the summer of 2020. Coalescing through a string of hazy jam sessions during the darkest days of the pandemic, the four-piece began playing live the minute they could, and it took only a few gigs to solidify their electrifying reputation in the Colorado heavy scene. With a distinct sonic identity that channels classic elements from Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy to mainstays of the modern canon like Windhand and Monolord — along with their collective love of vintage gear, walls of speakers and the sweetest leaf of all — HASHTRONAUT’s galactic tones, colossal riffs and driving rhythms have begun spreading to the farthest corners of the universe.

Keeping momentum high on the heels of a self-released EP and opening slots for icons like Pallbearer, Bongzilla and High on Fire, HASHTRONAUT released their debut LP "No Return" on New Mexico-based independent label Blues Funeral Recordings to great critical acclaim in the spring of 2024.

Phoenix Doom Metal trio GOYA to release new album "In the Dawn of November" on Blues Funeral Recordings; stream title track now!

Phoenix, Arizona doom metal torchbearers GOYA have signed to Blues Funeral Recordings for the release of their fourth studio album "In the Dawn of November" this June 13th, and present the spine-shivering video for its title track today.

Goya is a Phoenix, Arizona doom metal band known and revered for delivering mountain-heavy riffs drenched in copious amounts of fuzz on top of haunting psychedelic atmospherics. Formed in 2011 by guitarist and vocalist Jeffrey Owens, the band takes its cue from genre pioneers like Electric Wizard, Acid King and Sleep, crafting a sound that is as hypnotic as it is defiantly punishing.

In the fall of 2024, Goya entered Soundhouse Studios in Seattle with legendary producer Jack Endino (High On Fire, Year of the Cobra, Soundgarden) to lay down a monolithic work of graveyard grooves and bleak reflections to herald their towering return with their most accomplished and unwaveringly bone-crushing record to date — leading the trio to ink a deal with revered Albuquerque-based label Blues Funeral Recordings.

"We are proud to welcome these Arizona desert doom stalwarts to the label with a new LP of crushing cosmic sludge! Goya has historically done almost everything themselves, and we're grateful for the trust they've shown by allowing us into their fortress to do what we do and help spread their monolithic riff-heaviness farther than ever before," said label founder Jadd Shickler.

Let Goya crush your souls with new video "In the Dawn of November" + listen to the single on all streaming services

About the song, frontman Jeffrey Owens comments: "The eight years since the last Goya record have brought me face to face with some hard truths about life. I’m getting older, and mortality has struck me in new ways, so this album is largely a meditation on death. In the Dawn of November is the natural evolution of the band, and the culmination of everything that came before it, simultaneously signifying a new era for Goya."

Goya's 2012 demo showcased their early potential, but it was their debut full-length "777" (2013) that announced their fearsome arrival in the doom underground. With sprawling, riff-heavy compositions and occult-tinged lyrics, "777" resonated deeply with fans of titanic sludge-metal. Continuing to evolve, Goya released "Obelisk" in 2015, a concept album that refined their blend of psychedelic doom. They followed this with their magnum opus, 2017's "Harvester of Bongloads", another concept album that leaned as heavily as ever into their fuzz-laden, riff-driven aesthetic and further cemented their legacy of unrelenting doom and immersive sonic landscapes.

In the summer of 2024, Goya returned to the road for a month-long US tour after taking a few years to write their fourth album "In the Dawn of November", to be released in the spring of 2025 via New Mexico-based label Blues Funeral Recordings (Acid King, Lowrider, Dozer).

Review

Alternative/Sludge/Stoner Rockers Museum Of Light return with their emotionally charged and brilliantly satisfying new album Diviner. The band impressed me back in 2022 with their acclaimed debut album Horizon with its mix of Alt Rock, Shoegaze, Psych, Stoner, Sludge, Doom, Post-Rock and Progressive based movements. Diviner follows a similar path but with a more nuanced and multi-layered sound.

The record sees new additions of Jeff Bartless on Bass Guitar, Elissa Aliverz on vocal duties and Amelia Urry providing Spoken Word poems which are highly majestic and give the album a sense of realism that deserves to be heard by the biggest audience possible. The sound is amplified by HUGE SOUNDING grooves and complex melodies which easily draw comparisons to the likes of HUM, Cave In, Torche and Floor but with a Shoegaze / Doomgaze leading the band into Progressive waters.

The album even has moments of huge sounding Stadium Rock melodies but is mostly held down by a grounded Sludge/Stoner Rock instrumental charge. The vocals are held back more compared to Horizon with Museum Of Light excelling within their “LESS IS MORE” approach with stunning heavy sludgy guitars propelling the band into Spaced Out and Ethereal territories.

This is more of a collaborative effort with guest contributions from Elissa Aliverz on vocal duties and Amelia Urry’s spellbinding spoken word poems being some of the genuine highlights of the record.

With a distant Ambient, Space Rock and Psychedelic flow allowing for mellow Post-Rock themes to appear for the most uplifting parts of the record before Museum Of Light transform into highly destructive but equally melodic DOOM-POP destroyers with that FLOOR and TORCHE influence coming into play.

There’s a wonderful sense of complex melodies throughout the album with a harsh sense of reality creeping in at times but those excellent spoken word parts allows an upbeat environment to fully form on the later stages of the record. The sound can be considered experimental with flashes of glitches and intricate noises having a mind of their own though Museum Of Light’s dominant Alt Metal keeps everything moving along at a superb pace.

I could have easily written a song-by-song review for Diviner but I consider this as one long instrumental track broken down into individual chapters. There’s a cinematic and unpredictable nature to how Museum Of Light deliver their music especially when the music becomes disjointed with heavy DRONED OUT passages whilst still keeping with their intense creative vision.

If I have to recommend some favourite tracks of mine then I would say Blunt Force Drama, Above You, The Known World, Still Running, Diviner and Breathe. As these are the songs that best describe Museum Of Light across both of their brilliant and highly original albums.

Diviner does have a certain abstract, colourful and retro sound coming from the production side of things with Museum Of Light having a certain Seattle vibe to the record with help from Scott Evans, Carl Saff, Cameron Heck and the band’s very own Jeff Alaverz all contributing with the making of the album. They’ve all done a wonderful job which allows Museum Of Light once again to create a highly anthemic style of music which will no doubt allow Diviner to become one of my favourite albums of the year.

Review

Doom/Sludge Metallers Serial Hawk return with their new album Psychic Pain which is their first new material in six years and they bring a strong undercurrent of Progressive themes and sounds to this record. Serial Hawk have taken ideas laid down on their last record Static Apnea and blended with a full-on Drone Metal appetite which takes a darker turn with the down-tuned grooves that have a subtle distorted energy pouring out from every angle.

Psychic Pain is more chaotic and full on Blackened Doom Metal fury especially with the vocals that sees a level of nightmarish sound developing within the first two tracks Pulsate and Raw Wound. With moments of Drone, Doom, Psych and Ambient Metal having a menacing purpose to them and thunderous sludgy grooves that channels bands such as ISIS, NEUROSIS, Cult Of Luna, CONAN and YOB. The Drone Metal themes feel like Serial Hawk have opted for a SUNN 0))) delivery with the violent Post-Metal instrumental melodies and dark textures that is quite daring which spills over throughout the album.

Despite all of the DOOM & GLOOM that Psychic Pain contains, It’s quite miraculous when Serial Hawk finds time to play a sudden shift in melodic grooves that can be quite therapeutic and uplifting  with Raw Wound being a prime example of this. However, the aggressive rhythm section of Adam Holbrook on Bass and new recruit Karter Rosner on Drums always offer a primal and challenging style of music for Will Bassin to create harsh growls, clean vocals and first rate sludgy guitars.

Though, the band still return to a haunting style of Ambient Rock and Post-Rock within the opening few moments of the standout track Drift Away before unleashing a bone crunching style of Atmospheric Sludge that stays on the right side of emotionally charged music

Serial Hawk bring a sense of world weary Progressive Metal to their sound which becomes the main focus of Psychic Pain to the very start. The remaining tracks of Drift Away, Psychic Pain and Caged always remain grounded with a cautious Psychedelic attitude allowing the music to be quite realistic and emotionally charged. There’s a high amount of sonic experimentation and manipulation on the record which sees haunting voices and cinematic sounds being part of the overall journey that Serial Hawk takes the listener upon.

Psychic Pain is perhaps the best album that Serial Hawk have released to date as they create their own highly original blend of Atmospheric Sludge Metal that dares to be different at times and offers a bleak and uncompromising vision you’ll find very hard to beat. You can easily rank this as one of the best Post-Metal albums of the year even at this early stage of the game.

Exclusive Song/Video Premiere Of Doom/Stoner Rockers KING POTENAZ New Song RIVERS OF DEATH From Forthcoming New Album

'Rivers of Death' is the first single from King Potenaz upcoming new album ' Arcane-Desert-Rituals Vol 1'  to be released in June. Vol 2 will be released later in 2025.

Quote from the band about the track and video

“We're finally back after a while, we're super excited and we literally couldn't wait to let you listen to our new single “Rivers Of Death”, the opener to our long-awaited second album “Arcane Desert Rituals Vol. I”, set to be released in June on Majestic Mountain Records… for the special occasion we also made a magnificent video created by the great PrettyNoose, which fully embodies the darkest and most doom atmospheres we could give you...”

Bio

Born in 2019 in Fasano (BR) during some jam sessions, King Potenaz began composing original songs strongly inspired by the doom/stoner of bands like Sleep, Electric Wizard, Kyuss, Monster Magnet and last but not least Black Sabbath.

After a change on drums, the lineup stabilized in the power trio formed by Giuseppe [guitar and vocals], Francesco [bass] and Piero [drums/synths]; long-time friends and musicians, active in the local underground heavy scene for about 30 years: Giuseppe and Francesco have played in various black/doom/drone bands such as Helvete, Moriendoom and Rius De La Mort) while Piero has pounded the skins in punk/hardcore bands like NoExit and Erpice and composed two albums of electronic music as PRNX.

In 2022 “Among The Ruins” and “Pyramids Planet” [demo versions] were finally released.
On April 28, 2023, their debut album entitled “Goat Rider” was released, distributed by Argonauta Records.

The album was enthusiastically received by industry critics and reached the twelfth position in the Doom Charts of April '23 as well as being mentioned in the major genre charts at the end of the year.

In 2024, the three signed with the Swedish Majestic Mountain Records for the release of the new albums  Arcane-Desert-Rituals Vol 1 scheduled for June 2025 and anticipated by the release of the first single on March 14; in the meantime, they recorded a cover of a Ramones song that will be included in the next tribute of the Redux series by the American label Magnetic Eye Records.

Review

Cosmic Squid is the debut album from Fuzz/Doom/Stoner Rockers MARS who are inspired by the likes of SLEEP, HIGH ON FIRE and Mars Red Sky. The band names themselves after their hometown of Mars, France. With a sludgy backdrop transforming into a heavier style of Post-Metal, MARS have a domineering bass heavy sound which holds everything together. The vocals have a gruff exterior and delivered with a stern fashion which allows the music to be quite aggressive when MARS play a faster style of music. The opening tracks Run and Icarus offer twelve minutes of MARS projecting a modern day Cosmic/Doom/Stoner Metal sound that is quite volatile especially with the raw sounding production values that’s contained on the album. The music delves into Post-Rock waters at times but MARS at their best when delivering their intense FUZZED out Stoner groove which is boosted by a thick wall of AMPLIFIER sound. There are deft touches of Post-Doom and Post-Stoner attitude which is used in spectacular fashion with the standout second track Icarus. The song has an excellent LOUD vs QUIET dynamic with that pulsating bass line allowing MARS to execute intense Sludge/Stoner Metal instrumental passages. MARS explore a down tuned and distorted style of music which has echoes of Black Sabbath and Electric Wizard at times when the mood becomes quite seedy with the multiple levels of different AMPLIFIER FEEDBACK. With a free-flowing narrative allowing MARS to deliver tales from Space and the further reaches of the Cosmos on tracks such as Fall Of The Mantis Star, Burning The Sun and Shalbatana Vallis. The final track of Shalbatana Vallis is named after an actual water worn channel located on the planet MARS which is quite cool to name a song after this and this is another one of the albums finest tracks. The later stages of the record does become more Post-Metal obsessive with MARS still delving into areas of Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal. The music even has an excellent “LESS IS MORE” environment with the Ambient sounds being quite grounded before MARS project themselves back into the heavier and aggressive style of music which is where the most exciting moments appear. Cosmic Squid is a superbly realized record with a grounded vision despite the fantastical elements of the record which MARS take complete control and advantage over to deliver an album that’s packed with epic grooves throughout. If you want your COSMIC DOOM with a heavier Post-Metal finish then MARS are the band for you. This is an excellent and superbly entertaining record with MARS delivering some highly original sounds of their own making. Check this out now. You won’t be sorry.

GRUNGE ROCKERS FREE MACHINE UNVEILS POWERFUL NEW SGLE AND LYRIC VIDEO FROM THEIR DEBUT ALBUM

Independent grunge-rock collective Free Machine release their latest single and accompanying lyric video, offering listeners a deeply emotional and sonically rich experience. Born from a shared love of ‘90s alternative rock, the band’s newest track serves as both an homage to their influences and a poignant reflection on personal loss.

Free Machine is more than just a band—it's a passion project crafted by four ex-musicians who left the gig and tour scene behind but never lost their love for creating music. Drawing inspiration from legends like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam, the band members—Glenn Bradford (vocals, mixing), Clint Jurgens (guitar), Bryan Nicol (drums), and Brendan Haupt (bass)—collaborated remotely to craft their debut EP, proving that distance is no barrier when the vision is clear.

Musically, the new single Black Seasons is “somewhat of the inspired lovechild of Black Hole Sun and Chris Cornell’s solo hit Seasons,” according to the band. The lyrics were influenced by a powerful scene from the film Wind River, where a grieving Native American father learns to cope with the devastating loss of his daughter.

“The song is about the loss of someone very close and the pain we all go through when we experience such an event,” says Free Machine. “But the message is meant to be about how you will hurt, yet keep those memories close, and eventually, you will be able to revisit them with a smile.”

For Free Machine, songwriting begins with the music. “Once I had that intro, it immediately spawned the epic and moody feel that the rest of the song just had to follow,” explains guitarist Clint Jurgens. “The chorus was pretty much served up to me on a platter at that point. The bridge was an exciting challenge—breaking from what had been a steady emotional build, we wanted it to reflect the struggle of letting go, pushing toward the final send-off.”

Unlike most bands launching an album, Free Machine is taking a different approach. “There is no ‘bigger picture’ here,” they say. “No marketing pushes, no endless promo runs, no events or concerts. This is simply about making good music and sharing it with like-minded rock fans.”

Review

Psych Stoner Rockers Kadavermarch make a welcome return with their new self-titled EP which contains three tracks lasting over sixteen minutes. The band open the EP with Rabbit Killer and it has a slight Occult Rock/Proto-Doom sound which is boosted by a classic Heavy Metal style of music with the bombastic Stoner Metal attitude allowing the band to be quite contemporary in places. The vocals are excellent with them being clean based and influenced from the Seventies Hard Rock scene with influences ranging from Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult.

One of the main standout parts of the EP is most definitely the Organs provided by Jeppe and he adds some wickedly deceptive Proto-Doom and Psych Rock elements that has a free-flowing 1960’s attitude at times. Kadavermarch wander effortlessly from the different eras of the last sixty years of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal scene within the short runtime of the EP and that’s a huge accomplishment to achieve but the band do this with style, grace and originality.

The other two tracks Golden Gates and The Great Escape sees the band drift into areas of Southern Rock and Americana with the tracks retaining a sense of Stoner Rock/Metal heaviness with some outstanding instrumental melodies being played against the kick-ass vocals from Andreas and Aske. There are moments of Country Rock being given a Doomed Out makeover and it’s quite an intoxicating mix when Kadavermarch embraces a more riff-centric style of music with the twin guitars from Andreas and Ken being the strongest part of the EP. Credit must also goto Rune on Bass and Aske on Drums who lay down the instrumental groundwork for the other members to benefit from.

Kadavermarch have unleashed a truly breathtaking EP which has ace Danish Singer and Producer Jacob Bredahl on mixing duties and the legendary Brad Boatright on mastering duties. So the band have top-notch talent helping them make a quality release and it sounds superb throughout.

My advice if you’re new to Kadavermarch’s world then this is the perfect way to find out about this great band. If you’re already a fan then you’re in for an absolute treat. End Of.

Review

Arrows Of Time is the new album from Psych Stoner Metallers TORPEDO TORPEDO who combine Heavy Psych, Space Rock, Blues Rock, Post-Rock and even small elements of Indie Rock. The sound is quite vivid with a haunting cinematic score leading the way. The band can easily be compared to the likes of ELDER, WEEDPECKER and King Buffalo in places with how they blend their style of Post-Stoner melodies into heavier areas of music though TORPEDO TORPEDO employ instances of Alt Rock and Post-Grunge into their music which makes a welcome appearance very early with the opening tracks of Calmar and False Gods and Lurid Skies.

TORPEDO TORPEDO excel the most when they merge sounds from different eras of music to a heavier style. One moment you could be listening to sounds inspired by the 1980’s and 1990’s before the band transports you to the modern day Sludge Rock/Stoner Metal landscape where everything is more aggressive and quite chaotic at times.

However, TOIRPEDO TORPEDO focus mostly on their melodic and free flowing style of Heavy Psychedelia that allows the band to bring other areas of music for a sudden shift in Cosmic Doom and Space Rock dynamics especially on tracks such as Ambra, Hell Below and Templates Of Utopia.

The instrumental work laid down by TORPEDO TORPEDO is simply stunning with David Hüttner’s crushing guitars that allows the powerful rhythm section of Mathias Grether on bass and Marian Waibl on drums to generate a ton of heavy sounding progressive grooves that leave quite the impression especially on the later stages of Arrows Of Time.

The album cover for Arrows Of Time is excellent but can be quite deceiving at times. As this only gives you a brief glimpse on what you actually experience when listening to the album. The vocals from David Hüttner are not your typical style you would hear for a Stoner Rock/Metal record. David's vocals feel inspired by the more commercial Indie Rock scene but that’s no bad thing with the vocals being one of the best parts of the whole album.

Overall, Arrows Of Time is an action packed release with a highly original and intriguing story to tell which is powered along by epic slabs of Progressive Stoner Metal that leaves you wanting to hear more. TORPEDO TORPEDO have delivered the goods with this record. If you want an album with BRAINS and BRAWN to match then you’re in the right place with Arrows Of Time.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
