Exclusive Premiere Of Doom/Grunge/Stoner Rockers FISH HOOK SMILE New Song/Video For RATSTAR

"Ratstar”, the second single from Fish Hook Smile’s upcoming self-titled album, out August 20th via Glory or Death Records

On August 20, Fish Hook Smile returns with their second single, “Ratstar” - a track that refuses to look away from one of the harshest realities of our time: the humanitarian crisis of homelessness.

The single is part of the band’s forthcoming self-titled album, due out on September 5.

“‘Ratstar’ dives into the merciless world of homelessness, told through the eyes of someone society chooses not to see. It's a visceral cry for recognition and connection — a reminder that all of us are only one or two strokes of bad luck away from living the same fate.” - Fish Hook Smile

Built on suffocating atmosphere and unflinching lyrics, “Ratstar” captures the weight of marginalization — the empty pockets, the systemic neglect, the fight to maintain dignity. Sonically, the track delivers sharp distortion, a throbbing low end, and vocals that shift between anguish and restrained fury.

The track paints a bleak, brutally honest portrait of homelessness, told from the eyes of someone long ignored by society. With gritty textures and lyrics that ache with lived experience, “Ratstar” demands empathy - and warns how fragile the line is between stability and collapse.

This is not just a political message. It’s a deeply human one - one that demands to be heard.

Fish Hook Smile emerged from the vibrant alternative scene of St. Louis in the 1990s, blending influences from grunge, punk, and alternative rock with raw, biting lyricism. Known locally for their intense live shows and visceral sound, the band gained underground momentum before dissolving, without ever releasing a full-length record.

Fish Hook Smile was a St. Louis band that was originally formed in 1991 by Jason Busiek, Dan Policarpo(guitar) and Ken McCray(drums). In the Summer of 1991, Misha Avrushenko, Matt Lake and Bryan Pollard joined the band. Although he wasn't originally in the band, Matt Pekny was at damn near every practice and show in the 90’s and was a natural fit for 2nd guitar. These songs were written by Jason Busiek, Matt Lake, Misha Avrushenko, Bryan Pollard and Dan Policarpo. Although Dan is not on the recording, he was a major player in the formation, writing and the overall honing of this sound and we are forever grateful for his contributions

Decades later, members of the original lineup reunited, unearthing unreleased material and channeling the same urgency that defined their early years. Now spread across different cities but still driven by a shared creative fire, Fish Hook Smile returns with renewed purpose and sharpened vision.

This year, 2025, they joined forces with Glory or Death Records to release their long-awaited self-titled debut album digitally. Slated for release on September 5, the record is preceded by two blistering singles: “Shiver” and “Ratstar” - with lyrical manifestos confronting authoritarianism and the brutal realities of social invisibility.

Fish Hook Smile is not just a comeback. It’s a scream that never died.

Exclusive Song/Video Premiere Of Heavy Blues/Stoner Rockers MALKASIAN New Song THE LONG PIG

We're happy to premiere the new song/video THE LONG PIG from Heavy Blues Rockers Malkasian which is from their upcoming new album which you can listen to below:

The Lowdown

Heavy Blues Album Description

FFO - Queens of the Stone Age, Pride and Glory, Clutch “Heavy Blues” is the feeling.

The genre is a second order issue.

Heavy

1. of great weight; difficult to lift or move
2. of great density; thick or substantial Burdensome

“Heavy Blues” is more despondent and apathetic. Yearning to feel something when you haven’t been able to feel at all.

This record attempts to honor the essence of the blues while embracing grit, chaos, and indifference to conventions like the heavy alternative scene. It was made because it had to be, “just because....” Tropes about “being born under the blood red moon” and other cliches won’t cut it. The words and feelings are for here and now.

It's heavy influenced blues.

The thought with “Heavy Blues” is blues influenced by heavy alternative rock. Emo blues...even if only by intention, not aesthetic. This blues is more overtly dark, lamenting, melancholy, insouciant, frustrated and affected."

Members

Sean Malkasian - guitars and vocals
Jordan Bettner - drums
Sam Rucker - bass
Dave Rosenberg - harmonica

Doom/Stoner Rockers BORRACHO Premiere New Song/Video For SUCCUBUS From Upcoming Album OUROBOROS

Stoner Rockers Borracho are set to deliver yet another sonic journey with the release of the upcoming LP Ouroboros. Thematically, as the title suggests, the band’s sixth album explores the ancient alchemist concept of continuous transformation as applied to contemporary social ills. Track by track, Borracho take up consequential issues like mental illness, authoritarian brutality, automation, and the corruption of culture and paint a picture of humanity eating itself. And luckily for everyone, these tales are told with the kind of blistering, face-melting riffs the band has become known for. After the last two albums’ musical exploration into psychedelia, on Ouroboros, Borracho are saying it's time to rock!

Thanks to the great folks over at Purple Sage PR and Ripple Music we're beyond excited to premiere the new song/video for SUCCUBUS which you can watch below:

Exclusive Song Premiere Of Instrumental Doom Rockers THE LONG HUNT New Song ASSIDUOUS GNAW

The Long Hunt is a three-piece instrumental doom, drone, heavy-psych band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The group is known for blending sparse minimalism and textured drones with hard-hitting guitar riffs and memorable melodies. The music is both adaptable and dynamic, able to shift in volume and mood at a moment’s notice. With live shows often accompanied with samples, lights, and projected images, the band strives to create an immersive experience for the audience.

The band are releasing their new album Natural Order on Friday 18th July 2025.

We're excited to premiere the new song Assiduous Gnaw from the upcoming new album which you can listen to below.

Assiduous Gnaw: The name is a reference to inescapable unrelenting forces. Time, wind and rain will eventually grind even the mightiest of mountains into dust. A meditation on impermanence and a surrendering to the ultimate will of the universe. The song hits especially hard live, with the warbling vibrato and delay-drenched guitar giving way to the muscular, octave fuzz chorus. I feel it takes people by surprise every time. To me the song is a nice marriage of post-metal, light prog, and stoner-doom. I'm especially proud of the guitar solo, which utilizes some interesting scales and moderately intricate hammer-on/pull-off techniques." - Trevor Richards / The Long Hunt

Personnel:

Trevor Richards: Guitar
Allison Kacmar Richards: Bass
Mark Lyons: Drums

Burning Sister - Dead Love (Single Review And Exclusive Song Premiere)

Release Date: July 08th 2025. Record Label: Self Released. Formats: DD

Dead Love - Tracklisting

Dead Love - 7:20

Members

Steve Miller - Bass, Synth, Vox

Alison Salutz - Drums

Review

Burning Sister return with their latest venture into “HIGH DOWNER ROCK” territory with the new single Dead Love which features another aggressive style of smoked up FUZZY atmospherics spliced with trippy Doom/Stoner Metal melodies. This time round the band conjure up a Proto-Metal style of music with elements of Garage Rock which is quite different to their last song of Lethe//Oblivion.

The stripped back energy has a more dynamic presence with Burning Sister just being a bass and drums type of band for this current moment in time. This may change in the future if they decide to add another guitarist into the mix. For now, Dead Love allows Burning Sister to operate with seedy Psychedelics with a sound that has a slight Monster Magnet (TAB era) influence with layers of frenzied sludgy sounds.

Steve Miller’s appear sporadically throughout the song and even then their brief and straight to the point. Alison Salutz excels on drums by putting in a measured and commanding performance. Steve’s bass playing has a subtle Space Rock energy when compared to his sublime Synths that dominate the Space Rock landscape.

Once again, Burning Sister moves away from the sound they created on their acclaimed 2022 album “Mile High Downer Rock”. Dead Love has a more gloomier environment with catchy, aggressive and subversive melodies being quite progressive that sees Burning Sister drifting ever closer to the promised land of HIGH DOWNER ROCK and creating something original and special indeed.

This is another outstanding slice of Doom/Stoner Metal from one of the coolest bands currently within the underground scene and why their upcoming new album due for release later this year is perhaps my most anticipated album of the year.

Burning Sister have kindly allowed me to premiere the song in full which you can watch below.

Exclusive Song / Video Premiere For Progressive Stoner Metallers SHEEV New Song KING MUSTARD II

Progressive Stoner Metallers SHEEV will be releasing their new album "Ate's Alchemist" out July 11th on Ripple Music.

We're excited to premiere the excellent new song / video for KING MUSTARD II from the upcoming new album which you can watch below:

The Lowdown

The name of the album is Ate’s Alchemist. Ate, the goddess of mischief, is known for planting dark emotions in people’s minds:fear, delusion, anxiety.Ate’s Alchemist tells the story of her servant, the Alchemist, who crafts the very demons she later in stills in humanity. The album cover depicts the Alchemist deep in his craft, surrounded by the dark creations he forges for Ate.

The songs all loosely tie into that theme, exploring the darker emotions in people’s minds. From the fear of dying or being forgotten, to a pyromaniac on the edge, or a guy so arrogant he thinks he’s unstoppable, each track dives into a different kind of madness.

“As a band, we don’t really think about genre when we write. We just go with what feels right. That’s why not all the songs sound like they belong to the same genre, and we’re totally fine with that. What ties them together is our love for experimenting with time signatures and pushing ourselves as musicians, while still keeping things groovy and fun to listen to.

That’s how we landed on calling our style Progressive Stoner Metal—it felt like the best way to sum it up.Our sound is inspired by progressive metal bands like Opeth, Gojira, and Mastodon, mixed with our love for grunge and groove bands like Alice in Chains, Down, Soundgarden, The Sword, and Crowbar.”

Sheev is

Guitar / Vocals - Nitzan Sheps
Drums - Philipp Vogt
Bass - Joshan Chaudhary

Exclusive Song/Video Premiere Of Psych Stoner Rockers CRANEIUM New Song THE FLOW OF TIME & AGE

We're truly excited to premiere the new song/video for THE FLOW OF TIME AND AGE from Psych/Stoner Rockers CRANEIUM thanks to the awesome folks over at Majestic Mountain Records.

The Lowdown

“Lyrically we have often returned to the subject of mortality and the choices that shape your life. You only get one. - Martin

“Another track that we decided to save for later on. We felt like it could stand as a single on its own. It started out with an acoustic intro that turned into something else completely when the bass-riff came along. Droning guitars and dreamy mellotron-melodies on top. It’s different but definitely Craneium.” - Andreas

When on tour we listen to the classic Pink Floyd track “Time” a lot, and I think it is safe to say that “Flow of Time and Age” is a not so distant relative, musically and lyrically” - Martin

"Our new track dives into the weight of memory, the slow collapse of what we hold dear, and tha/t urgent need to act before the moment slips away. It's heavy, melodic, and it hits like a truth you weren’t ready to face." - Joel

“Finnish fuzz-rockers Craneium swear their guitarist Martin isn’t getting old — but the walker, the afternoon naps, and the deep sighs suggest otherwise. Their new music video is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the fact that time waits for no one — but luckily fuzz pedals help soften the blow.” - Craneium

Lyrics

”Flow of Time and Age”

Time keeps on flowing like a stream

Taking with it all your hopes and dreams

How could one wish for something more

And one day you'll all be washed ashore

Brought into life with loving breath

I fear I'll wither and I'll face my death

To know you numb beyond belief

Ain't returning from the lands of sleep

Take your time to shine, don't fall behind

Look within your mind, don't waste your time

Chorus

Merciless and fierce, the flow of time and age

There's no kindness in this world, the drowning voices won't be heard

Far in the distance like a dream

Taking us further than we've ever been

And if we someday reach this place

Into the void one last embrace

Take your time to shine, don't fall behind

Look within your mind, don't waste your time

Chorus

Merciless and fierce, the flow of time and age

There's no kindness in this world, the drowning voices won't be heard

Exclusive Video Premiere For Sludge/Stoner Metallers GRIN New Song BENEATH THE ALTAR

With "Acid Gods", heavy psych-doom duo GRIN push their raw and hypnotic sound to new extremes. Stripping things down to just fuzzed-out bass, pounding drums and vocals, Jan (drums, vocals) and Sabine Oberg (bass) prove once again that less can hit a lot harder. Picking up where the "Black Nothingness" EP left off, they dive deeper into lo-fi heaviness and textured sludge, with zero interest in following trends or softening the blow.

"Acid Gods" is all grit, weight and conviction. Tracks like Beneath the Altar and Unshut hit hard with thick grooves and a sludgy stomp reminiscent of The Melvins and Eyehategod. Jan’s vocals take center stage more than ever before, shifting between haunting and aggressive as the songs swell and collapse under waves of distorted low-end. Drag Me Down and Crystals push that balance further, with layered vocals cutting through hypnotic bass lines and driving percussion.

"Wild Eyes" shows how much tension GRIN can build with the bare minimum, and "Heavy Dew" closes the album in a tidal wave of fuzz and reverb, dragging the listener under before letting go. There’s a strange beauty in how stripped-down and overwhelming this record feels at the same time.

Recorded at Hidden Planet Studio in Berlin, Acid Gods was produced, mixed, and mastered by Jan Oberg, giving the record a raw but controlled sound. The artwork by Dawid M. Piprek and Caspar Orfgen (DAEVAR) mirrors the album’s dark, trippy vibe, perfectly tying together the music’s oppressive weight and hypnotic atmosphere.

Grin has been building toward this moment since their 2018 debut Revenant, refining their sound across Translucent Blades (2020), Phantom Knocks (2022) and Hush (2024).

With their continuously evolving sound, GRIN are a beacon of boundless creativity in the scene and "Acid Gods" is new testament to their artistry. On "Acid Gods" everything is just more. The intensity of the riffs, the boldness of the vocals, the heaviness of the bass and the detailed crunch of the production. Every GRIN album will have you wondering if this band can get any heavier (or better) and the answer is always YES.

"Acid Gods" will be released on May 30, 2025 via The Lasting Dose Records.

We're excited to premiere the exciting new video for BENEATH THE ALTAR from the upcoming album ACID GODS.

ACID GODS is due out on CD/DD/Vinyl formats via The Lasting Dose Records from Friday May 30th 2025.

Exclusive Premiere Of Psych Stoner Rockers MADMESS New Song/Video For VELVET NEBULA From Upcoming New Album THE THIRD COMING

Portugal’s psych-rock heavyweights MADMESS finally reveal their first track from their upcoming record “The Third Coming”.

Always sparkling, always brilliant - and heavy as usual - Portuguese power-trio Madmess release a new LP “The Third Coming” on May 9th via Glory or Death (USA), Kozmik Artifactz (EU) and gig.ROCKS! (PT)

They might as well be one of Europe’s hidden gems when it comes to the psychedelic scene, but maybe no longer like that. “Velvet Nebula”, the first peek from Madmess newest and third album, has just been revealed for us to mouth water, chew and spit what sounds to be a prelude for what’s next to come, following a rich year of touring where they stepped the likes of Krach am Bach (Germany), ArcTanGent (UK), Freak Valley Xmas (DE) or Sonic Blast (PT).

Velvet Nebula allows a faithful crew of followers yearning for new Madmess songs, the following track goes onto a more classical and mature approach, reminisce the Bonham-like flavours on drums w/ modern psychedelia melodies flourishing for five minutes plus a few crumbs that are more than enough to eager us, waiting for further ear-catching songs, the record itself and, most importantly, for the first chances of banging this riffs live - across Europe and beyond - as the stage remains their natural habitat.

With a tour scheduled for late-May (covering Portugal, Spain and France), “Velvet Nebula” is a glimpse of the fog that's about to come over Europe.

Exclusive Premiere Of Doom/Stoner Metallers DOOMSDAY PROFIT New Song/Video For DRIVE INTO THE SUN

Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metallers are getting ready to release their third single of the year, "Drive Into The Sun" on March 19th 2025 and we're excited to premiere the video from this amazing band which you can view below

Doomsday Profit say this about the track:

"The song is a bit more upbeat than our usual fare — more inspired by stoner-rock and punk. Something like Fu Manchu driving Fucked Up's boogie van — right into the sun itself.

Lyrically, "Drive Into The Sun" was inspired by road trips our bassist Ryan and I used to take to the NC coast to go surfing. We'd get up just before dawn, drive east, surf and hang out at the beach all day, then drive west into the sunset — sun burning our eyes in both directions. It felt like a metaphor in line with that quote urging the reader to to "find what you love and let it kill you." It's long been a favorite of mine, a motivation to push through hard times and sacrifice for the things that really matter.

If the cut-and-paste animation style didn't give it away, the video for "Drive Into The Sun" was created by our friend Eric, a former editor at The Hard Times and the mastermind behind the (hilarious) web series "Punk Rock Seinfeld."

These guys are going from strength-to-strength with their kick-ass songs they've released so far and this maybe my favourite track yet.

Exclusive Song Premiere Of Doom/Folk/Stoner Rockers BUZZARD New Song CONCLUSIONS From Upcoming New Album

Doom/Folk/Stoner Rockers Buzzard’s 2nd LP Mean Bone traverses extremes of haunting beauty and brooding heaviness. The 13 tracks range from crunchy metal to creepy folk. The lyrics lament the evils of religion, the cruelty of mankind, and the plight of the planet.

To get you in the mood for the album, I'm happy to premiere the excellent new track CONCLUSIONS from Mean Bone which you can experience below:

Christopher Thomas Elliott, the creative mastermind behind BUZZARD says this about the song:

This song shows the acoustic doom troubadour side of Mean Bone. Retreating to his hermitage, a wayfarer reflects on the state of the world and the nature of the cosmos.  Sonically, the song draws from Opeth’s Damnation and Townes Van Zandt. Both the lyrics and music grew out of the song “Too Many Humans” from Satiricus Doomicus Americus. What does it all mean? As the song says, “You can come to your own conclusions.”

“We're finally back after a while, we're super excited and we literally couldn't wait to let you listen to our new single “Rivers Of Death”, the opener to our long-awaited second album “Arcane Desert Rituals Vol. I”, set to be released in June on Majestic Mountain Records… for the special occasion we also made a magnificent video created by the great PrettyNoose, which fully embodies the darkest and most doom atmospheres we could give you...”

After a change on drums, the lineup stabilized in the power trio formed by Giuseppe [guitar and vocals], Francesco [bass] and Piero [drums/synths]; long-time friends and musicians, active in the local underground heavy scene for about 30 years: Giuseppe and Francesco have played in various black/doom/drone bands such as Helvete, Moriendoom and Rius De La Mort) while Piero has pounded the skins in punk/hardcore bands like NoExit and Erpice and composed two albums of electronic music as PRNX.

In 2022 “Among The Ruins” and “Pyramids Planet” [demo versions] were finally released.
On April 28, 2023, their debut album entitled “Goat Rider” was released, distributed by Argonauta Records.

The album was enthusiastically received by industry critics and reached the twelfth position in the Doom Charts of April '23 as well as being mentioned in the major genre charts at the end of the year.
