UK Heavy Psychedelic Rockers LACERTILIA to release new album "Transcend" on Majestic Mountain Records this fall.

Cardiff-based heavy psych torchbearers LACERTILIA return after five years with their anticipated third studio album "Transcend", due out on October 24th through Swedish powerhouse Majestic Mountain Records. Stream their brand new single and video for "The Sun Is The Key" now!

Watch Lacertilia's new video The Sun Is The Key below + listen to the single on Bandcamp

Lacertilia stand out as a fearless blend of psychedelic soul and heavy riff warfare, rooted in their Welsh stoner rock identity but unafraid to draw from cosmic textures, primal energy, and punk-inspired vigour. A powerhouse live act, they have leveled stages from Desertfest London to Hellfest in France, converting audiences at every stop.

Their sonic evolution culminates in their forthcoming third album and Majestic Mountain Records debut "Transcend", which sees the five-piece refining their explosive sound, merging the massive riffs and spacey explorations they are revered for with darker, more intricate textures of folk, prog and post-rock. The result is a heavier, more dynamic listen that charts a course through themes of profound personal growth and transformation, grappling with the nature of reality, existential dread, the breakdown of relationships, and the future of mankind.

Their new single "The Sun Is The Key" is a pagan space rock epic that soars with cosmic energy, connecting themes of higher consciousness, mysticism and ancient spiritual practices. Lacertilia worked with filmmaker Ren Faulkner to capture a ritual sunrise performance in the Welsh Mountains during Summer Solstice '25.

New album "Transcend" - Out October 24th on Majestic Mountain Records (LP/CD/digital)

For the past decade, Cardiff’s Lacertilia has been a formidable force in the UK's heavy psychedelic sphere, forging a reputation as purveyors of high-energy, cosmic rock. They have seamlessly bridged the worlds of underground punk, metal, and stoner rock, delivering their high-energy cosmic sermons everywhere from DIY stages to hallowed European festival grounds like Hellfest in France, Freak Valley in Germany, Desertfest London and their biggest headline show to date: the 10th anniversary show in Cardiff in 2024.

Their recorded journey maps this evolution: from the explosive arrival of their 2015 debut EP "Crashing Into The Future" through their 2016 LP "We’re Already Inside Your Mind" and the raw power of the "Live at Hellfest" EP, to the lockdown-forged introspection of their 2020 sophomore album, "Calling The Quarters".

This journey culminates in their third and most ambitious album to date, "Transcend", coming out in October 2025 through Sweden's esteemed label Majestic Mountain Records. "Transcend" is the culmination of a decade of growth — a mind-altering sonic statement from one of the UK’s most compelling underground rock acts.

Review

Clair-Obscur is the latest album from Psych/Fuzz/Stoner Rockers Electric Jaguar Baby and they fully lean into the modern day sound that QOTSA have developed over the last decade or so but with more catchy rhythms, grooves and a shit-ton of streetwise attitude as well. With a free-flowing style of Garage Rock, Acid and Punk Rock overtones, the band have a playful and highly energetic attitude to their music which does see the band play multiple styles of music with that Acid Rock tinged vibe serving the band superbly well.

Starting off this crazed journey is the excellent opening track Heroine which features Chris of Acid Mammoth fame providing guest vocals with a song that’s refreshingly hip and rebellious from the very start with a murky sludgy grooves being quite flamboyant in places. The song is superbly heavy with a seedy sideline in FUZZY sounds which sees Electric Jaguar Baby align themselves closely to the likes of TRUCKFIGHTERS and FU MANCHU with the Fuzz Rock aspect.

Second track Bring Me Down has a slight departure into Grunge and Alt Rock attitudes with the sound being FUNK ROCK in places with a dynamic mid nineties Stoner Rock presence appearing within the vocals and heavy guitars. The sound once again flirts between QOTSA catchy grooves and the full-on Psych Stoner Rock attitude of today’s modern scene. The vocals are superb yet again with guest musician Patrón appearing along the way which gives this track a cool sense of unpredictability.

Third track Stray From The Path is full of Desert/Stoner Rock heaviness that has a sense of seediness with the subtle flashes of Noise, Grunge and Acid Rock melodies that develop. With a confident stride into aggressive Post-Rock and Noise Rock surroundings, Electric Jaguar Baby really start to find their own voice on this record especially when a distinctive Droned / Shoegaze melody appears within the instrumental movements.

Fourth track My Way is a song that moves away quite heavily from the Psych/Stoner Rock path the previous tracks contained. This is more dominated by Fuzz Rock sounds with catchy Garage Rock riffs and Punk Rock attitude which is quite refreshing to hear but isn’t the most exciting track to hear but I give Electric Jaguar Baby credit for doing something different on this album and this is the first real sign of things changing quite dramatically for the rest of the album.

I can’t review every track on the album as it’s quite a highly involving record with the band offering twelve tracks that allows them the perfect opportunity to craft a different musical style for the majority of the tracks with even more weird and wonderful stories developing from the Fuzz/Garage/Stoner Rock creative template they have at their own disposal.

Electric Jaguar Baby always allow themselves the perfect opportunity to develop themselves further within other areas of Hard Rock with a fearless attitude that may not always work but they still develop a vast collection of outstanding tracks that will appeal to many different factions of the Indie Rock, Mainstream Rock and Underground Rock scenes. That is a very hard thing to pull off but Clair-Obscur is a superbly entertaining record with tracks such as Goin thru the blu part II,  The Fastest Ride, Anything, Winterholidays VS Fuzzroutine and The Oswlad Cobblepot complex.

If you’re a fan of the previous albums by Electric Jaguar Baby then you’re going to be in your element here with twelve tracks of superb sounding quality and their excellent cover of Rock n Roll Queen by The Subways makes it all worthwhile.

Overall, Clair-Obscur is a superbly produced record that focuses upon the classic sounds of the Nineties Heavy Rock Scene and gives it a cool modern-day atmosphere and wise-cracking attitude to match.

Review

Cosmic Doom Heavyweights Slomatics return with another grand, bold and aggressive new musical adventure with the mightily named Atomicult. This is Slomatics eighth full length album for a career that’s spanned over twenty years. There’s been celebrated split releases with the likes of CONAN, Domkraft and Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard to name but a few.

The record sees Slomatics developing a more refined sound with multi-layered guitars and progressive drumming with the band sometimes playing music more closely associated with the likes of Pink Floyd, Hawkwind and Genesis which was there on their last album Strontium Fields but only in small doses. Everything is played on a grander and tighter creative scale with Marty’s vocals being more refined, restrained, calmer and quieter that has a certain Classic Rock or Commercial aspect especially within the Ambient Post-Rock movements that Atomicult contains.

The instrumental surroundings allows Slomatics to reinvent the Cosmic Doom/Stoner Metal landscape once more in their own undeniable and brilliantly original heavy image within the first few tracks of the album Obey Capricorn, Phantom Castle Warning and Auto-Skull. Intense drumming from Marty has a destructive effect which sees Chris Couzens and David Majury’s epic guitars weave different levels of distorted heaviness and the sci-fi leaning synths sees the band venture into the theatre of Post-Rock especially on the emotionally satisfying fourth track Relics. This allows Marty to demonstrate a vocal style we haven’t heard from him before which delivers with pure Soft Rock perfection.

However, with this being Slomatics, they prove why they’re one of the most original and destructive forces within the modern day Doom Metal scene with expeditions into COSMIC and PSYCHEDELIC landscapes where soulful melodies can appear out of nowhere to change the dimension of the entire record. The album does feel like a natural progression from Strontium Fields but with tighter, richer and concise production values that truly comes into great effect on later tracks of the album such as Night Grief, Physical Witching, Summer Skeletons and To Ultramegaphonium.

The lyrics written for this album are quite fantastical but one that delves into areas of Artificial Intelligence which evolves into a cautionary tale if we leave that dreaded AI upto their own devices. Long time readers of the blog may know that I absolutely LOVE and ADORE this band. Slomatics have always delivered some of the best Cosmic/Doom/Stoner Metal records of the last fifteen years and that form continues with Atomicult.

Swirling Ambient sounds, Post-Rock rhythms and gloomy synths all play a big part for Slomatics to conjure an exciting style of COSMIC DOOM that adds an eerie CINEMATIC feel to their music which still allows the band to explore new creative ground and storytelling narrative we haven't experienced from the guys. So expect to hear some vastly different music within the record that can be quite jaw-dropping in places.

Even the amazing album cover which is inspired by the King Crimson record cover from In the Court of the Crimson King shows you what to expect with a record that merges reality and fantasy into one warped PSYCHEDELIC journey of distorted paranoia.

Atomicult is my favourite album of the year. I don’t know if anything will come close to this amazing record but Slomatics have delivered a modern day classic with Atomicult and teaming up with Majestic Mountain Records for the album makes this the perfect album to own especially if you want to be taken on a thrilling and brilliantly aggressive musical spectacle with classic grooves that leave you questioning your own reality.

Slomatics Bandcamp Pre-Order

The band gives us the following insight about the album:

“ ‘Atomicult’ is the second installment in the sequence we began with Strontium Fields. The album is intended as either a meditation on the existential crises the human race is currently facing, or it’s the soundtrack to a train ride, a few beers with friends or a moment of quiet in the home. It’s entirely up to the listener to choose, but in order to aid that choice we employed every tool we have; from burnt out Matamps and frazzled fuzzboxes through to sweet string sections and cosmic Mellotrons. This record represents every aspect of what our band does, and pushes the limits in all departments. We hope you enjoy the ride!”

Here's all the sexy stats:

💥The Event Horizon Black Edition:
- Standard sleeve.
- 1xLP 180g heavyweight vinyl
- Tri-color with black and white splatter

💥Emergent Universe Purple Edition:

'Atomicult' was produced by: Rocky O'Reilly at Start Together Studios, Belfast, mastered by James Plotkin with rad artwork by Ryan Lesser.

But wait.. there's more. If a much awaited Slomatics presale isn't enough, while you peruse the stats of the two stunning editions, you can also turn that dial all the way up and lose yourself to the pure intensity of the Slomatics experience with the first single "Phantom Castle" from this utterly massive full length filled with the gloriously ominous, bone shattering plod of the boys from Belfast at their beastly best.

“Heed the Phantom Castle Warning. A distant signal, a cosmic alarm, the sound of the great inevitable. We all have our own Phantom Castles. We all ARE our own Phantom Castles. Whether it’s waking up, switching on an amplifier or pressing ignition in your space craft, we all heed the warnings. Do not panic, this is Phantom Castle Warning.”

Review

667788 is my first exposure to the Swedish Doom/Stoner Metal powerhouse that is known as LOMMI. I believe this is their third full length album after a lengthy hiatus and with their previous album being released back in 2014. What you have here is a mix of CLUTCH, High On Fire, Black Sabbath, Motorhead and Mastodon based grooves wrapped up in a lovingly THRASH METAL / GROOVE METAL laced package. The sound has a muscular and classic HEAVY RAWK sound running through its veins.

There’s also that classic Swedish Doom/Stoner Metal underground energy that the scene is well known and respected for. The music is direct and very straight to the point with LOMMI using their classic POWER TRIO stance to great effect which generates in some turbo-charged grooves and intense melodies on the superb batch of opening tracks of Sayonara, Down and Blood Moon.

The vocals from Jens Florén are mostly Groove and Stoner Rock orientated with him selling LOMMI’s classic style of bombastic music which has an air of destructive 1980’s Heavy Metal running throughout whilst keeping with that essential modern day vibe. The lyrics are easy to remember where you can sing along to your heart's content. The record does see a sudden shift into Progressive textures on the longer tracks such as Blood Moon and Children which never loses its melodic focus.

667788 may refer to the hexadecimal colour code for a light greyish blue tone but maybe the band can elaborate on that further though this record is quite a moody, sombre and gritty experience which is boosted by LOMMI’s diversion into areas of Classic Heavy Metal and modern day Doom/Stoner Metal attitude on other tracks such as Rather, Electric, Children and Fight.

LOMMI have a distinctive sound hiding within the production values of the record as the sound is aggressive and has a sublime PROTO-METAL and PUNK ROCK aesthetic which allows Jens (Guitar/Vocals), Jens (Bass) and Jörgen (Drums) to play to the best of their technical abilities. The album allows LOMMI to have a vital HEAVY METAL presence to them which gives 667788 a more authentic sound, quality and attitude than you can possibly imagine.

CRANK this bad-boy up to the HIGHEST VOLUME possible and PREPARE TO RAWK THE FUCK OUT!!!

French Fuzz Rockers Electric Jaguar Baby Announce New Album & Reveal Video For New Track “Heroine” feat. Chris Jr of Acid Mammoth

Parisian fuzz fanatics Electric Jaguar Baby return to burn down the garage with “Clair-Obscur”, their wildest, heaviest, and most electrifying album to date, set to be released on September 5, 2025 via Majestic Mountain Records (Kal-El, Saint Karloff).

But first, the band has served up another taster in the form of a brand-new video for “Heroine”, featuring none other than Chris Jr. of Acid Mammoth.

Previously, the duo unveiled a video for lead single “My Way”, a fuzzy, rocking tune that sets the tone for what’s to come, check it out at this location.

Formed in 2015, the duo comprised of Franck (drums/vocals) and Antoine (guitar/vocals), have spent the last decade distilling garage, stoner, punk, psych, pop and grunge into pure fuzz-fueled chaos. Known for their explosive live shows and no-rules approach, they’ve shared stages with everyone from Sepultura to Death Valley Girls.

Now, “Clair-Obscur” marks their third full-length and most fearless outing yet. Recorded live and drenched in distortion, the album rips through 11 unfiltered tracks of raw sonic adrenaline, with killer guest appearances from Lo (ex-Loading Data) and Chris Babalis Jr. (Acid Mammoth).

Pre-orders are now available here.

With a new EU tour in the works and their amps permanently stuck at 11, Electric Jaguar Baby are revving hard into a new era and you’re invited along for the trip

Review

Italian Psych/Fuzz/Doomsters King Potenaz returns with Arcane Desert Rituals Vol .1 which once again explores the heavy down-tuned and fuzzed up waters of Doom and Stoner Metal. The influences ranging from Black Sabbath, SLEEP, Electric Wizard and KYUSS are once again included but this time round King Potenaz delves further and heavier into the Occult Metal aspect of their sound. There’s a sense of modern day viciousness heard within the Guiseppe Guarini’s majestic raw sounding vocals which becomes quite Electric Wizard obsessive towards the end with flashes of modern day Stoner Rock surroundings before the album is finished.

With a pure DOOMED OUT essence of Seventies Proto-Metal that’s built around a heavier Sludge Metal backdrop where the music is dramatically different with the production values and recording techniques compared to their 2023 acclaimed debut album Ghost Rider. There is a sense of Classic Hard Rock melody that merges with the gloomy synths that drummer Piero Schiavone provides superbly well especially within the closing stages of the epic opening track Rivers Of Death.

Rivers Of Death perfectly captures the SONIC and PSYCHEDELIC essence of King Potenaz at their creative peak where they conjure up DEVILISH grooves and trippy DISTORTED landscapes to build upon their WEEDIAN narrative. The music is played at a perfect slow-to-mid pace which becomes more atmospheric as time passes by.

King Potenaz aims for pure AMPLIFIER heaviness on the second track The Empty Hand Pt.1 which reminds me of fellow underground doomsters Acid Mammoth in many ways. This track has a wicked sense of Psychedelic deception with the gloomy synths and Shamanic Acid Rock vibes projected from Guiseppe’s vocals and pounding rhythm section courtesy of Francesco Pensato on Bass and Piero Schiavone on Drums. The band include a classic style of GRUNGE to appear and merge with the distorted Sludge Rock elements for a track that has a timeless feel to it all. Long drawn out DESERT ROCK sounds converge with the sudden shift of Fuzzy Stoner Metal urgency with an APOCALYPTIC quality showing through the lyrics.

Three of the four tracks contained here run between ten minutes to thirteen minutes in length with King Potenaz honing their creative and progressive skills with sublime moments of pure LOW & SLOW heaviness which is completely stripped back allowing the music to offer the listener plentiful moments to ROCK OUT and LOSE THEMSELVES in.

Third track Sabbatum Sanctum is the more OCCULT based track with King Potenaz incorporating a surreal vision to their music which results in DISTORTED PARANOIA with how the music is delivered. The guest vocals from Jana Maista (Bass/Vocals from MATER INFECTA) is a great touch with the song becoming quite surreal which instantly reminds me of a classic Alexander Jodorowsky film. The song is perhaps the most frightening and droned out part of the record which is also my favourite track from the band to date.

The final track of Ariadne, The Serpent Witch once again sees Jana Maista provide exquisite vocals once more with King Potenaz fully committed to their Drone Metal persona with slowly played instrumental notes and long drawn out passages which has vibes of SUNN 0))) and BONG at times.

However, King Potenaz settled for their trademark Psychedelic Doom/Stoner Metal grooves. Add a sense of world weary and gloomy Post-Rock based synths that creates a desolate world that becomes more destructive when the full-on and aggressive WEEDIAN melodies appear. Though the track can be too long in places running nearly fourteen minutes in length, the overall journey makes this the other standout track on the album.

Arcane Desert Rituals Vol. 1 is boosted by the immense talents of Marc Urselli who mixed and mastered the record. Marc Urselli released the fantastic Ramones Redux and SteppenDoom projects recently to great acclaim within the Stoner Metal underground scene. He’s done a great job here by providing a raw aesthetic for the band to entice new listeners with. Credit must also goto Stefano Manca who recorded this great album and keeps everything real and grounded with how he captured the band at their most primal.

This is also another first class release from Majestic Mountain Recordings who are now becoming one of the most important labels the scene has to offer next to the other great labels of the scene.

However, this is King Potenaz's chance to shine where they have delivered a record of outstanding quality that leaves their debut album in the dust with more sinister, heavier, exciting and pulse-pounding grooves that demand your complete and full undivided attention.
