Review

Canadian Stoner Rockers BirdDog return with their second EP of 2025 with Far From Home. This continues the stripped back and raucous energy of their well received “first” official self-titled release back in July 2025. The EP lasts around thirteen minutes and it’s as raw, dirty and gritty as Stoner Rock can become with the stripped back recording techniques used for capturing the EP that was recorded in a few hours in a basement.

There’s a lot more musical variety on this release with BirdDog focusing upon areas of Punk, Proto-Metal, Seventies Doom and Garage Rock which is quite surprising with the short run time of the whole EP. Lead vocalist Diamond Neal continues with his “OLD SCHOOL” persona of delivering KICK-ASS VOCALS that may lack studio finesse but you know that he’s lived the ROCK & ROLL lifestyle with that sublime NO FUCKS GIVEN attitude being projected throughout Far From Home.

The band have a new drummer Dexter Tremblay in their ranks and he offers a different style to their previous drummer (Andrew Barr). He’s more Punk Rock / Garage Rock obsessed at times with BirdDog delivering a faster and intense style of music especially on tracks such as Dusty Rose, Ego Deth and Tetris. The whole EP moves along at a cracking pace with the LO-FI surroundings adding a gritty undertone with Ray Dickman (Guitar) and Eric Dickman (Bass) performing with a first rate “IF AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX” kind of attitude.

This is music we’ve heard a thousand times before but BirdDog is still playing with a muscular and aggressive swagger to their music that you can hear echoes of THE RAMONES, SAINT VITUS and MOTORHEAD within their music at times.

The music AIN’T PRETTY at times but BirdDog got things done by releasing another superb EP to showcase their musical and creative talents to the underground scene..
