Garage Rock/Punk/Stoner Rockers FVZZ POPVLI Premiere New Song/Video For TEMPLE OF DOOM From Upcoming New Album MELTING POP

Garage/Noise/Fuzz/Punk/Stoner Rockers FVZZ POPVLI will be releasing their new album MELTING POP via Heavy Psych Sounds on Friday 07th February 2025. You can read my review here.

The cool folks over at Purple Sage PR and Heavy Psych Sounds have allowed me to premiere the excellent track TEMPLE OF DOOM from the upcoming new album which you can watch below:

FUZZ POPVLI say this about the song:

"We love Indiana Jones, so we wrote a track about Indy himself, fighting the bad guys and always coming out on top. It fills us with hope for the world we live in, which could really use some. In this song we put all that really is “Melting Pop” for us: Fvzz-heavy, glorious, catchy, powerful riffs and still you can do a sing along in the choruses. We want “Temple of Doom” to go over the boundaries between different genres of heavy rock music and make people having fun listening to it as much as we enjoy playing it. Did we succeeded?"

Band Bio

Founded in Rome by Pootchie and Datio in A.D. MMXVI, the idea was to build a powertrio with a direct and rough way to deliver heavy fuzzy riffs. Their sound melts Black Sabbath-style heavy riffs with the roughest garagepunk bands attitude -like The Stooges-, adding the psychedelia from the 70's to create their own style!

The band released and promoted an "EP" in May 2017, with a promotional tour in Italy, Switzerland and Germany. In June 2017 they became a part of Heavy Psych Sounds Records (Bongzilla, Pentagram, Brant Bjork, Nick Olivieri, Fatso Jetson, Yawning Man, Nebula, Giöbia, Duel, Black Rainbows.) roster to promote their 1st album "FVZZ DEI".

Released in September 2017, the album has brought the band on more than 70 european stages in 8 countries, giving them the chance to play in the mysterious DUNA JAM. In June 2018 the band recorded their 2nd album "MAGNA FVZZ", which has been released in October 2018 followed by a 75 gigs european tour, with highlights in festivals like HPS Fest, Le Grand Incendie, Gouha, Berlin Swamp Fest and Tabernas Desert Rock Festival. In 2019 the band signed with the indie r'n'r label RETROVOX to release their 3rd studio album named FVZZ POPVLI III in March the 3rd 2023, then Datio left the the band, III was supported by 4 long tour legs across Europe in the name of Punk Rock.

Fvzz Popvli, among others, shared the stage with: White Hills, Black Rainbows, Naxatras, Giöbia, Ufomammut, Karma To Burn, Rotor, Zodiac, DYSE, Powder for Pigeons, Lili Refrain, El Perro, Hypnos, The Tazers, Mars Red Sky, Mother Engine, The Midnight Ghost Train and much more. In November 2024 the band signed again an agreement with Heavy Psych Sounds, to release a new album on Q1 2025.

Review

Italian Punk/Stoner/Psych/Fuzz Rockers FVZZ POPVLI are back with their fourth album Melting Pop and it’s even weirder than their previous albums combined. Taking a Garage Rock approach with nods to The Stooges, MC5, Black Sabbath, KYUSS and even The Melvins for this record alone. Melting Pop has a schizophrenic delivery with the rebellious vocals and raucous lyrics that contains a freakish 1970’s Punk Rock attitude with a killer modern day Noise Rock attitude.

There actually is a “POP” style melody appearing within the music though it’s being given a twisted and surreal makeover with layers of SONIC and PSYCHEDELIC distortion within the first few tracks of the album Temple Of Doom, Telephone and Salty Biscvits that allows the band to superbly deliver messages of FUCK YOU to the whole MAINSTREAM area of RAWK & ROLL. There is a sense of misguided Punk Rock fun throughout which allows FUZZ POPVLI to deliver a stripped back sound which has been part of their music since their excellent debut album.

Sometimes the lyrics don’t make sense especially on Salty Biscvits but you can’t deny how addictive and engaging the whole song actually is especially with the upstart Garage Rock/Noise Rock delivery of the track that gets straight to the point of playing pissed off and highly energetic fast paced sludgy guitars. There’s a deep reliance of some AMPLIFIER REVERB on certain parts of the track.

Melting Pop has a twisted sense of humour throughout which comes mostly ito focus on the following tracks of Erotik Evil Pimp, Kommando and Ovija. The music is fast and loose with it’s kinetic Stoner Rock swagger becoming quite dominant without diluting the Garage Rock energy that makes this album so dementedly brilliant and outrageous at times. There's a classic soundbyte added to KOMMANDO which is just the icing on the cake for that track and makes it easily the standout track on the album.

The final two tracks of Cop Sacher and The Knight allows FUZZ POPVLI the perfect opportunity to draw this album to a great finish with more sludgy and noise rock based grooves which leaves no stone unturned by delivering a first rate and off-beat record that is thrilling entertainment from start to finish.

Words by Steve Howe

Thanks to Purple Sage PR for the promo.

Melting Pop will be available to buy on CD/DD/Vinyl via Heavy Psych Sounds from Friday 07th February 2025.

Introduce Yourselves: FVZZ POPVLI

What is the name of your band?

We are FVZZ POPVLI, from Rome.

What is the genre of music that you play?

We like to call it “Alpha Spacerock”. It is a mix of heavy garage rock, fuzz rock, 70’s psych and punk.

Can you give a brief history of the band of how it came together and where it is today
?

Founded in Rome by Pootchie and Datio in A.D. MMXVI, the idea was to form a powertrio with a direct and rough way to deliver heavy fuzzy riffs. In 2017 we released our first LP, FVZZ DEI, and began touring around Europe. Magna Fvzz, our second studio work, came around late 2018.

We continued evolving our sound, taking distance from stoner rock, towards a more garage-punk attitude.

We began writing a new set of songs which eventually became our new album, “III”. Now, after more than 200 shows around Europe, we are ready to kick some more asses. New songs, new attitude, same FVZZ POPVLI.

What can people expect from your music?

Energy. Sweat. On stage, we give everything. Through Music, we seek connection with the audience. Do not expect to stand still during our shows.

What is the best release that folks should check out from your band?

Needless to say, “III” is our favorite baby. The planets really aligned on this one, and we managed to create and shape a sound that represents us, what we are, what we like, in every aspect of its production. Check it out!

Where can people find you on Social Media?

First of all, our Bandcamp page, where you can directly support us, buy our merch and discover the newest releases. After that, go follow us on Instagram or Facebook to find our next gigs around the world. On Youtube you can find some extras, too.
