Review:

Hijo de la Tormenta aren't your usual Desert/Psych/Stoner Rock band as these guys create a very complex and progressive sound. The band can be an acquired taste at times but if you have the time for a challenging listen then their new album El Manto de la Especie will be worth your time.

The album drifts from almost ambient/post-rock sounds to the heavier desert/stoner rock sounds. There's no point doing a song-by-song review as this album needs to be listened as one single epic 37 minute song. Imagine the song broken down into chapters where the band show the listener the many different sides to the music. Prog, Psych, Stoner, Fuzz, Desert Rock and even Space Rock all combine for one hazy psychedelic and surreal musical journey.

Fans of 70s Prog Rock will perhaps find the most enjoyment from this album as it harks back to the day of that legendary period with heavy guitars and synths being the main driving force of the music. The vocals could have done with more volume being added to the mix but that shouldn't distract you from enjoying the album.

If you need more evidence to check this album out. What if I told you that Billy Anderson mastered this album. So you know it's going to be good if Billy Anderson is involved. I know these guys have quite a following within the Psych/Stoner Rock community. You can see why on this album as It shows that Hijo de la Tormenta are worth giving a damn about. They play by their own rules and this album is a much better experience as a result.

If you want something different to the usual run of the mill Desert/Stoner Rock bands currently out these. Give these guys a chance and you will be pleasantly surprised as this album is an unexpected delight. Excellent and Highly Recommended.
