Review

Crawl return from a 2.5 year slumber to release some new music with this brutally heavy new EP – 30 Year Suicide. Consisting of two tracks and running for about 12 minutes in length. Crawl waste no time in creating a horrible sludge like nightmarish atmosphere with Eric's vocals having a hellish quality to them.

Openign track – Pornography Of Grief – feels it was influenced by the legendary NOLA sounds but given a more thrash/black metal makeover. Crawl still inject their familiar drone based Doom/Sludge sounds but this is a nasty sounding song with the band creating a distorted guitar driven sound. I can hear a industrial vibe running throughout this track.

Second track – 30 Year Suicide – carries on the bleak as hell atmosphere with Crawl giving absolutely NO FUCKS who they upset. It opens with a familiar doom/sludge riff before the song starts adding heavier slower paced moments that move firmly into Drone/Sludge Metal territory. The second half of the track is perhaps the most exciting moment on the EP as Crawl return to heavier fast paced sounds and it allows them to breathe some much needed creativity into their music.

Overall this is a superbly heavy and bleak record from Crawl. It's a shame there are only 2 songs but if this is the sign or sound of things to come from Crawl then they need to release more misery upon the world. As this is a fantastic EP from Crawl.
