Review

Guilty Of Being Young is the newest EP from London Psych Stoners – Derelics. Containing a 70s classic rock sound that is merged with a casual passing to Grunge/Psych Rock. Derelics create an EP that is worth getting excited about. Perhaps less heavier than their previous releases but Derelics seem to have a new found self belief in creating lush psychedelic/stoner rock grooves.

Opening track – Guilty Of Being Young – is a brash and fully confident offering that allows the band to play riffs that showcases the best periods of Heavy Rock music over the last 40 years. You have your 70s Stadium Rock soulful, 80s Heavy Metal Solo Theatrics and grunge/stoner rock grooves that we've all became accustomed to over the last 25 years or so. However, in Derelics hands, this song is remarkably fresh and full or rebellious life. The vocals from Reno is what impresses the most. As Reno has a true “classic” rock singer persona that you don't hear much from these days. When Reno hits the high notes you can only sit back and take notice.

Second track - The Summer Song (Back to the Garden) – owes a huge debt of gratitude to Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin. As Derelics create a murky doom laiden offering that once again hides itself behind the classic rock persona the band are expertly creating here. Though look behind the scenes and you can hear a doom/stoner rock riff waiting to take over and take control. It never fully does but it's a very cool and interesting approach the band have taken with this song. Fans of Soundgarden will no doubt go crazy over this song.

Third track - The (Wicked) Witch Is Dead – is the standout track for me. As Derelics emerge themselves with a more darker 70s style of Doom/Psych Rock before freaking out onto more modern Stoner Rock sounds. You can hear elements of Aerosmith on this song as Derelics leaving you wanting more.

Shame that there is only 3 songs but Derelics have released a superbly entertaining EP that raises anticipation for hopefully for their debut album. Keep an eye on these guys as they have something special about them.
