Review
Revelations Of The Sand is the new EP from Doom/Stoner/Death dealers Sandbreaker who bring a gloomy and violent perspective to the Doom/Stoner Metal realm which is down to their bleak use of Death Metal in certain aspects of their music. The EP lasts for around nineteen minutes which is more than enough time for Sandbreaker to play a stunning and brutal mix of Blackened Doom/Stoner Metal grooves.
The vocals are definitely part of the Extreme/Death world but they’re quite easy to understand without losing the cynicism and nihilism expected for vocals such as this. There’s a great use of Psychedelic and Spaced Out effects in places which come fully into focus on tracks such as Sand Witch and Sand In My Hand.
The sludgy guitars become “LESS IS MORE” when each track closes with a pitch black Post-Doom and Post-Stoner environment emerging. The instrumental passages are vividly melodic and down tuned in equal measure with Sandbreaker opting for a Drone/Amplifier reverb style of music that allows the vocals to have a SHAMANIC style to them.
Revelations Of The Sand is inspired by the more nightmarish aspects of the classic science fiction saga DUNE and you can tell that by how the music is delivered and dystopian lyrics that accompany them.
Sandbreaker have included a great cover of I’ll Revenge originally released by fellow Polish Psych/Doom/Stoner Metallers GALLILEOUS from their 2009 album Equideus. The version here is more death based and quite depressing but still keeping with a certain Doom/Stoner Metal narrative and I actually prefer this version slightly more.
Sandbreaker have delivered another superb release to match their earlier records which I recommend you check out now especially their 2020 debut album Warm Master. If you want an EP that taps into the darker fantastical side of the DUNE lore and mythology then you can’t go wrong with Revelations Of The Sand. As this is a thrill-a-minute ride into the more extreme side of Doom/Stoner Metal.
