Review

Aeternal Chambers is an Instrumental Doom/Post-Metal Band from the band drawing upon a diverse style of Prog Rock, Ambient and Shoegaze which allows their self titled debut EP to be quite cinematic in scope and how the music is delivered throughout. The band is also an off-shoot from the acclaimed Doom/Stoner Metal band OBIAT though are totally different to each other which allows Aeternal Chambers to be its own highly evolved creative entity.

Drawing upon sounds from acts such as Pallbearer, Pelican and Russian Circles, the music is also quite Industrial based with areas of sublime Electronica appearing with magnificent F/X sounds appearing on different parts of the record. Aeternal Chambers can be quite dramatic on how they deliver their music but it’s superbly played throughout which comes into play on the epic opening track of Husk Of Mortal Despair.

The song sees the band play a daring style of Instrumental Doom/Post-Metal for the most part but the “MAGIC” really happens towards the end of the song where the music is way more intense and a progressive attitude appears that gives the record a subtle destructive flow. The Electronica and F/X sounds are superbly constructed and delivered with real purpose that gives an air of intelligence to the band’s music.

Second track Drive Me To Ruin blends Post-Rock world building and a vengeful Prog Metal attitude which I see brief resemblances to OBIAT and MASTODON appearing for short bursts of aggression. The music continues with that classic Shoegaze or Doomgaze style even when the Progressive Sludgy guitars remain and thrilling drums that is the glue that holds everything together. Ambient sounds and textures veers into Psych Rock movements with the band once again changing their musical style for the better.

The final two tracks of Paved With Gold and Glitch In The Mist are where Aeternal Chambers delve into the heavier and bleakest themes of the whole record. As the sound becomes more DOOM & GLOOM obsessed with murky Industrial beats which take time to fully get going especially with Paved WIth Gold which is perhaps my favourite track on the EP.

Though, Glitch In The Mist is the track that will resonate with people the most. As it has a familiar Post-Metal tone and sound that people will recognise but still allows Aeternal Chambers to put their own spin on the Instrumental Rock/Metal sound.

Overall, Aeternal Chambers is quite a thought provoking and superbly produced release with a lot to say that is told through the power of beautifully played instrumental music from start to finish.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Introduce Yourselves: Quine

What is the name of your band?

Quine

What is the genre of music that you play?

Alternative / progressive metal without guitars: heavy bass riffs, detuned synths, clean vocals.

Can you give a brief history of the band of how it came together and where it is today?

Quine started in Minsk, Belarus, March 2023. It is currently a bedroom project and a two-man effort: Alex on the bass, bringing in the riffs, me (Yuri) building from those riffs in a DAW and topping it off with vocals.

The first thing that you hear on our self-titled EP – the intro section of “Syn” – is in fact the very first thing we ever wrote together. Alex sent me the riff and I put some synths over it along with slow heavy drums. Very simple stuff. But this weird, dark, almost nostalgic sound caught us off guard and got us both hooked. We followed this direction and dug deeper.

The debut EP was self-released July 12th 2024 and, as of this writing, we are in the planning and plotting stages for the next release.

What can people expect from your music?

It’s dark, dystopian, reminiscent of Tool in atmosphere but much simpler in structure and technique. Bass-heavy yet rather clean - we don’t overdo distortion. Lots of detuned synth pads that impart a nostalgic, meditative quality to the sound. Clean disillusioned vocals.

What is the best release that folks should check out from your band?

Our best work so far is our only work so far :) The debut EP “Quine”.

Review

Acclaimed Instrumental Desert/Stoner Rockers Tuber return from a six and half year slumber with their new album Joyful Science which sees the band develop a more Electronic based sound compared to their previous albums. This could have easily gone wrong but Tuber have delivered a more transcendental and uplifting sound which still harks back to their trademark Psychedelic grooves. Joyful Science also contains its fair share of Post-Rock themes with a haunting 1980's Electronic beats which would have quite a cinematic soundtrack effect.

Opening song Joyful Science is mostly Electronic Rock driven with a subtle Post-Rock/Desert Rock score with Tuber experimentation with different levels of creative storytelling that's reminiscent of Yawning Man in places. The overall result is wonderfully stylish and quite adventurous sound that is quite heavy without being heavy. The song becomes more Prog Rock based but with a Trippy and Ambient flow which still allows Tuber to play exquisite Desert Rock based extended instrumental jams before disappearing into the distance.

Second song No Cure For Life delves even deeper into the Electronica landscape with moments of Blues Rock based Desert/Stoner grooves with a freaky Psychedelic drive. The guitars are quite vivid with the music becoming more experimental with a familiar Californian Desert Rock vibe. Post-Rock flourishes soon moves over into the theatre and realistic vision of 1980's soundtracks that you may have heard from iconic shows such as Miami Vice though Tuber keeps the Stoner Rock movement alive within the album.

Third song Chain of Signs opens with sounds from the era of 8-bit video games but delivered with a certain Desert Rock panache and style. The atmosphere becomes more Stoner Rock aware and the jagged guitars allows Tuber never to sway from delivering a Heavy Instrumental Rock album. Tuber could have easily lost their way with this track but the Electronic/Desert Rock hybrid sound never goes out of style or fashion with a pulsating performance from the band allowing this track to be one of the standout tracks on the album. The sound is quite aggressive even when the Electronic Rock takes centre stage for certain parts of the track.

Fourth song Eau Rouge keeps up with the Electronica beats with more gloom based influences being added which feels like a mashup of Jan Hammer and John Carpenter based soundtracks but played with a more Hard Rock orientated theme. The mood can be quite spontaneous and flashy in places but the epic flow of different musical worlds brings a more vibrant sound to the album especially on Eau Rouge.

The final song Burning Florence sees Tuber being more low-key with their creative choices and instrumental sounds they play on this track. Moving from Post-Rock to dreamlike Desert/Stoner Rock jams can be quite challenging to hear at times but there's a wonderful haunting sound that ends this album on a mighty finish.

Joyful Science is a great album from Tuber to come back with. The production values are excellent that allows Tuber to deliver their most engaging and emotionally charged release to date. Joyful Science will delight and confuse you in equal measure but will ultimately leave you craving for more incredible instrumental sounds that only Tuber can deliver.

Electro Doom Rockers GHOST:HELLO Release New Video For The Mouth Of The Gift Horse

Ghost:Hello is a synth-loving stoner rock family affair from northeast Ohio.  Made up of a husband/wife duo and their cousin, the band members have been playing for decades.  With extensive individual histories touring around the US and in Europe in other DIY groups, this project just feels like a natural continuation.  Together as a family and as musicians, Ghost:Hello is now ready to take the rock n roll world by the horns.

Bringing in all sorts of unorthodox elements into their fuzz rock assault, this trio counterbalances stoner sludge with trip hop grooves.  The group has never been afraid to experiment, and Ghost:Hello is completely a slave to their various muses; this leads to an elegant fusion of influences of bands like Type O Negative to Fatso Jetson by way of Queens of the Stone Age.   The band has amassed an impressive social media following since its inception, even with a debut album still on the way.  The upcoming record, Sound of Color in Space, has been engineered and produced by a friend through the company 8th Day Sound, who have worked with Slayer, Marilyn Manson, and Smashing Pumpkins.

Now as they double down for their first release, Ghost:Hello are set to take on bold new vistas.  Having played around the Midwest since 2013, the local crowd is hungry for what they are about to deliver.  DIY til death, these fuzz rockers are planning everything from shows in new places to an animated video to herald their new music.  A band that's no stranger to hard work, and who constantly push to innovate, Ghost:Hello are a breath of fresh air in a crowded scene!

You can watch the video for The Mouth Of The Gift Horse below from this fantastic and highly original band.
